OBR...she is a shooter!

Re: OBR...she is a shooter!

Anybody had any luck with 178 AMAX's out of their gas guns? Please include load data if so....

My DPMS build with DPMS SASS barrel shoots the following load fairly consistently in the .4-.8 MOA range:

178 Amax loaded to 2.800"
44.4 gr IMR 4064
GM210M
Win Brass

All shooting was done when it was a bit colder out. ~40 degrees. Haven't shot this load since it started turning warmer.

Re: OBR...she is a shooter!

Happen to have your fps with that load?

Thanks

Re: OBR...she is a shooter!

K_4c,
I've read through the thread and did not see it mentioned but, is that an 18" or 20" OBR? Nice looking (and shooting) rifle by the way.

Re: OBR...she is a shooter!

20" sir.... I wanted the most barrel to burn that sweet varget/cfe223 powder(ha).

Re: OBR...she is a shooter!

Bringing back my old thread....

I decided to go back to varget/175 SMK's as the winning combo for my OBR and happy I did. Shot out to 800m and went 10 for 10 on my 9x13" ipsc plate. The only reason I'd ever part with this gun is to drink some of that 6.5 koolaid.... But right now my gun ADD has been subsided by this fine build. Just goes to show how far current AR-10 builds have come....

Re: OBR...she is a shooter!

What charge weight are you using for the 175? Brass? Primer? And I assume you are going mag length, which should be around 2.810 and an ojive measurement close to 2.205.

For me, 43.5 gr is as hot as I can go. Running 2650 out of my particular setup. I'm going to look for another accuracy node using a lighter charge. I'm at the limit on pressure but also running a tight chamber.

Re: OBR...she is a shooter!

what is the production time on OBR's right now?

from time of purchase to shipping?

I'm running 43.3 (summer) and 45.5 (winter) which has put me slightly above the 2600 fps mark pretty consistently with no pressure signs. Brass is Lupua (eventually I'll switch to Win... Semi's are tough on brass but my STM tumbler cleans them so well that I'll see how many loads I can get out of them... So far I'm on my third time around with no issues). Primers are CCI 200 (no issues there) and loaded to 2.800" (I load my bolt guns to 2.800" as well just to simplify things (no issues there either).

I want to make a side statement for all those on the fence about going with the stainless steel media tumbler from STM.... This is hands down the best method I have ever seen or used! Brass comes out just as good as factory brass (inside and out) and allows me (the end user) to easily identify any issues with the brass before a problem occurs... I'm so confident in STM's kit that I'm going to follow up with a short review of the process beginning to end showing the amazing results. If your serious about reloading and want perfectly clean brass... Take the plunge, you won't be disapointed.

Re: OBR...she is a shooter!

Thanks for the info and I've been looking at the stainless media also. Been hearing very good reports.

Re: OBR...she is a shooter!

No problem buddy. Enjoy your weekend...

So, why did you can the CFE 223? I know that varget is more stable (temp) in general... but is there a reason you went back?
