I currently own a Remington model 700 in 300 win mag (Rocky Mt. Elf Fdn. model). I am looking having some custom work done to it. (My first costum rifle.) Currently it has a camo synthetic stock and is stainless. I would like to change out the stock on it to something with either a thumbhole with check piece (molded or adjustable) or a something with more of a "pistol type" grip with check piece (molded or adjustable). I would like the forearm piece to have a wider flat surface to it. This could either be by a wider forearm that has more surface area or a flatter more squared off forearm.

What do ya'll think? Any suggestions or recommendations? Trying to not break the bank either.

Below are some that I have looked at and have characteristics I am intersted in. I am not sure on their prices or lead times though.

Re: Customizing Rem 700 .300 WM - My 1st Project

I have not had the exact bell and carlson you mentioned, but I put the m40 style on my remington 700 budget build and, while the fit and finish is not on par with some other higher end stocks I have seen, it is a great, sturdy stock that has greatly increased the accuracy of my rifle. The aluminum bedding is solid and barrel is completely free floated. So do not hesitate on the bell and carlson if on a tight budget, but if you have the money I would look into the manners or the mcmillan.

I agree 100%. I have that B&C 2092. Your link didn't work, but by your post I'm assuming that was the adjustable one. I went with the non-adjustable and installed a Karsten cheek rest and it is very comfortable and free floats all the way to the lug. I never fired it with the factory stock, but it is fairly accurate (average of about .75" @ 100y). The adjustable is very nice but with a little "price creep" you can be in Manners/McMillan/McRee territory. McRee being the best bang for the buck because you get a chassis that uses AI mags (an easy $350-400 addition to any stock after inletting).

I just found a site with them for $626 fixed butt stock (non folder). They have adjustable cheek piece that you can move forward or back, and adjustable length of pull (all needing tools). Looks like it meets all of your requirements, and them some. I just think they aren't terribly good looking, my only objection.

EDIT: In regards to "I just think they aren't terribly good looking." I stand corrected...
