What kind of solvent tanks are you guys using to soak parts? I'm using a bluing tank with a cover from brownells and my solvent is still evaporating. I was going to put some latches on each side to latch it down in hopes it would help slow down some of the evaporation.

Thanks guys,
Kc

Re: Cerakote solvent tanks

Put a drain in it and strain it into a gasoline can when you're done. Acetone is evaporates fast and at damn near $20 gallon you gotta drain it off every time. At least that's my experience.

Re: Cerakote solvent tanks

Pitch the acetone. Find a vendor that sells racing methanol and use it to soak parts. 1/3rd the cost, works awesome, and does not evaporate near as bad. It'll take an extra minute or two for it to flash off your parts prior to spraying color, but that's it.

You can clean your paint gun with it too. I pay around $3.60/gallon for it. Beats the hell out of the $13.99 that I paid for acetone.

Put some mulah back into your wallet.

Re: Cerakote solvent tanks

Ask your local natural gas or propane co for a piece of 3"-4" pipe (poly) with a cap fused on one end and a shipping cap. A 700 fits in a 2" pipe, but a m70 is a squeeze. I can use a few quarts and soak a whole gun and never loose a bit. I use drywall mud trays from harbor freight for small parts. A piece of 1/4" flatbar with some conveyor belt seals it nicely.

thinking about trying the racing methanol Chad. Right now I'm using Non-Chlorinated brake cleaner. Works good but evaps even with the lid on.

Cheaper than low octane gas at the pump. Sheesh.

Re: Cerakote solvent tanks

Made a call to Allied chemical. Methanol is $130/ 55 gal and acetone is $400/ 55 gal. Hope it does a nice job because I'm gonna be stuck with a shit load of gas if it doesn't.

Re: Cerakote solvent tanks

Pinky swear. Works great.

Keep it off the floor! Methanol is very hygroscopic. Concrete makes it worse. Use wood cribbing to suspend it and CLOSE THE LID TIGHT when your done.

You won't be disappointed.

Trouble with methanol/ethanol for fuel.....gotta burn double the volume to get the same energy output.

Runnin meth in a late model dirt car we'd burn 12-15 gallons in a 25 lap heat race. Fuel system plumbed like a firetruck!

Re: Cerakote solvent tanks

I use bluing tanks with lids that I made for them. I also added drains and drain it after I use it. As far as what I use....I got a really good deal on 5 gallons of Brakekleen. They had it on clearance because no one was buying it. Called NIC and they said that is the same stuff that they use and recommend it. It does evaporate fast but if you use it, cover it and drain it it lasts a long time. In about a year I have still on my first 5 gallon bucket.
