I adjusted it for a heavier pull and it happens less frequently, but if I push the bolt forward quickly the striker does not cock. The thumb safety won't move and I need to re-cycle the bolt.

Anyone know if this is a common problem or what the solution might be?

Is this a non- accutrigger model?
If so, too low a spring pressure will not fully reset the sear into the trigger.
I updated mine with the Sharp Shooter Supply Competition model. It installs in place of the stock internals and has adjustments for takeup, pressure and safety engagement. I had the same issue and higher release pressure was the only cure I found.
If it's the AccuTrigger I don't know what to advise. maybe others here could help with that .

It is the Accutrigger. Thanks for the lead to Sharp Shooter Supply. If I don't get the Accutriger sorted soon I'll give them a try.

Common with the Accutrigger. Save yourself trouble and time. Get a Rifle Basic from Brownells. Service is usually a LOT quicker than SSS. JMHO

Rifle Basix is the ONLY way to go. Leave SSS alone, and save what bit of sanity you have now.

I had this same problem with my accutrigger. It is a common problem as I posted the same thing and got a handfull of people say they had the same thing. I disassembled the trigger and figured out what was happening. It is actually the safety feature of the accutrigger kicking in preventing what would be some what of the bolt equivalent of a slam fire.

If your accutrigger is set really light, it doesn't take much force to move the sear and release the firing pin. By forcing the bolt forward and slamming it in place, you are placing enough force/moment on the mechanism to release. I wouldn't recommend it, but if you were to hold the blade on the trigger to the rear while you slam your bolt down, the weapon will fire. I took a dremel tool to my trigger and made point in which the sear grabs more pronounced and eliminated the problem. I polished it afterwards and it worked like a charm.

Just tighten up the pull weight screw by 1/2 turn then try it. Keep repeating process until problem goes away.

Re: Savage 10 sear not catching when bolt closed fast.

I just installed a rifle basix SAV-2 trigger assembly in my new Model 12 lefthand varmint 223. Took approx. 10 minutes to install and that's because I was being extra careful. Also awesome range of adjustment for trigger pull.

Going to shoot it for the first time today-can't wait to get on the road. After installing rifle basix triggers on other rifles, I didn't even wait to order the kit for my new Savage-it's installed along with a new Choate Tactical stock.

Went to the range in lousy conditions-gusting to 15 kts, light rain...

Best group was .410 at 100 yds-I'm very happy!!!! Shot it with 52 grn Hornady BTHP's. Gun was getting better when I quit-it was starting to rain heavier...

Going out again to try some more ammo.....
