Hey all. Ive been shooting a DPMS LR 260 1x8.5 right twist. Ive been looking to get a good bolt gun with comparable twist but cant seem to find one for a reasonable price (around 1200) that is bull barreled without going super expensive and have a custom one done up. Does any one know of a factory gun that fits in that ball park? Any comments on Tikka's?

Re: 260 bolt gun suggestions

10/110 Predator Hunter Max 1 from savage only ~700 bucks. Anyone tried this gun. I am kind of interested in it myself.

Re: 260 bolt gun suggestions

thanks Chambo for that option. I dont really know any one with a new savage or tikka. Does any one have any opinions or reviews on them.

Re: 260 bolt gun suggestions

Didn't Remington make 260 in a varminter a few years back?

Not sure if you're only considering new, but used might be an option. Also not sure of the twist rate on the remington. Something to look into though.

They made the VLS in .260 at one time. It has a 9.25 twist.

I have one of those in 6.5 CM and it is a real shooter.

Re: 260 bolt gun suggestions

I have the sako 85 laminate varminter in 260 and LOVE it, one of my favorite rifles..and a shooter, will put 107's in one hole.

Re: 260 bolt gun suggestions

thanks for the help everyone. Im torn between the Savage 12 long range precision and the tikka t3 super varmint. May have to try the old flip a coin technique

Re: 260 bolt gun suggestions

Lol this is true, but at the same time my grandparents did come over from finland in the 50's. rock and a hard place. ahh what the hell am I saying... 'Merica

Re: 260 bolt gun suggestions

Being able to change barrels or calibers on your kitchen table and also be able to shoot with the higher end guns right out of the box does make the Savage very appealing. You just won't have the sexiness of spending 2 or 3 times as much for a gun that you will probably never out shoot.

Good luck with your search.

Re: 260 bolt gun suggestions

The savage is a good choice, like said before, YOU can change out the barrel once you can outshoot the rifle.

Re: 260 bolt gun suggestions

You'll have more choices for scope bases and other accessories with the Savage, too. I had to build my own 20 MOA base for a CZ.

Re: 260 bolt gun suggestions

Get any Savage short action, new, or a used rifle in any caliber to use for a "donor" action.

Screw on a pre-fit barrel of your choice. Check with Northland Shooters Supply, usually a good selection of barrels in stock. He's currently showing 8 twist .260 bull barrels in stock (CBI) for $300...

So....Around $350 for an action/donor rifle, $300 for the barrel, leaves ya better than $500 for a nice stock...

What's to think about?
