Re: *Announcing the 2009 Sniper's Hide Build Rifle *

So I tried today. I was driving through Mapleton, and I stopped to see if anyone was home. Not so, I was a bit pissed cuz they said they were open. Sorry I dont have anymore to report. I will say this, it sure doesn't look like a gun shop. It shares a building with a salon, and some other place. Looks pretty fancy, the kinda place you'd wanna have your small business in if only you had the money

Re: *Announcing the 2009 Sniper's Hide Build Rifle *

Wow, I still have the PMs where this guy almost had me talked into buying one of the "extra" rifles from the build early Dec 2010. He wanted $500 more and all up front. I was already leery and a good friend pushed me over and talked me out of it. Thank you sir.

I was one acct transfer and phone call away from being a part of this fiasco. What a nightmare for the Hide and all of you. I hope you all get this sorted as soon as possible.

Re: *Announcing the 2009 Sniper's Hide Build Rifle *

If you call their phone number 1-801-704-9760, and ask them about this they will tell you that they are "trying to get all the rifles out". I cant believe this is still going on.

Re: *Announcing the 2009 Sniper's Hide Build Rifle *

I would place a full page ad in his hometown newspaper telling the good folks of that town that they have a thief operating in their town and has stolen thousands of dollars from hardworking taxpayers. I would also contact ATF and let them know a thief is operating under a FFL. This is of course if I couldn't find the bastard to beat the living shit out of him. I hope you guys get your money back. I would do everything I could to get his hometown turned against him and get his FFL revoked.

and then he gets to sue that person for defamation, libel, slander and business disparagement. No it doesn't matter if it's the truth either, he will still win.

the only way to solve this is for people to file suit against him and believe it or not individual suits vs. a group suit is much more of a hassle and a financial burden to him. Literally he would have 10-15x the legal costs having to pay a lawyer to respond to each claim, even if it is the same response.

Re: *Announcing the 2009 Sniper's Hide Build Rifle *

I am not a lawyer, but for him to win he would have to prove it to be a false allegation. Ain't no way in hell he could prove that especially if the person/persons that placed the ad were ones that he has screwed. No? Defamation and all that other you stated all have to do with false allegations. At least I thought it did.

Re: *Announcing the 2009 Sniper's Hide Build Rifle *

In print, defamation would be libel, and you're correct in that no newspaper would print that ad. And calling him a "thief" and implying he had "stolen" money in print might well be enough for him to win a libel case.

On the positive side, he may use his winnings in court to prop up his business and get the builds done...

It's obvious that you aren't either because you don't have a clue what you are saying.

Slander and libel are making false and malicious statements verbally and in print for the purpose of defaming an individual or their business.

If its true, it's not slander or libel. There are entire websites geared towards doing nothing but outing bad business practices. Angie's List, Rip Off Report, Yelp......even google has reviews for businesses on their site. Investigative reporters make a living out of publicly outing businesses and business owners that rip off customers. Hell, Urban Spoon allows people to trash restaurants for bad food and service. Union members sit in front of businesses exposing them for poor working conditions and treatment of their employees.

Here in Knoxville there are newspapers that print and publish arrest records of individuals. They post the names of prostitute solicitors on billboards.

This guy is a criminal. His actions go way beyond civil malfeasance at this point, he has committed grand theft and should be prosecuted criminally.

Happens to roofers and general contractors all the time. Take the money for a job and make no good faith effort to complete it......that's called theft and they go to jail for it all the time.

He cannot sue for slander or libel. Stop giving legal advice.....you are not very good at it.

Re: *Announcing the 2009 Sniper's Hide Build Rifle *

Oh, I just looked up Utah defemation law.......libel and slander must be false statements in order to qualify (as is with most common law states as well).

I don't think anyone would have a problem proving these complaints are true.

Re: *Announcing the 2009 Sniper's Hide Build Rifle *

The biggest problem might occur should y'all call him an as**ole...you might face a class action suit by a lot of as**oles for putting him in their class.

Here's hoping you guys see your rifles or your money.

Re: *Announcing the 2009 Sniper's Hide Build Rifle *

Holy crap glad I did a search, Was looking at their sticks on their webpage and did a google search... Hope you guys reclaim something money, completed rifle, or just rifle parts.

Re: *Announcing the 2009 Sniper's Hide Build Rifle *

I'm sorry to hear of this. I too was interested in the build but funds didn't allow. Now, I purchase only guns that are built up. No ordering anything.

Good luck but in all reality i don't think this is going to end well.

Sorry.

Re: *Announcing the 2009 Sniper's Hide Build Rifle *

I feel for all the Hyde members that got caught up in this. I've read this thread from front to back with total disbelief. I cant believe that this has gone on as long as it has. I would have gone there and beat by money out of him. Good luck to all involved.

Re: *Announcing the 2009 Sniper's Hide Build Rifle *

Brad just informed me that three "TAC" rifles went out last week, and two more should go out this week. If they were part of our group, who got them?...

As far as I can tell, nothing has changed since this Jan 9th status.

And ChrisF's VR-1 actions

I sure don't see any evidence that eight of our rifles went out early December, so I'm thinking that my previous assumption that it was for a different order may have been correct?...

Thank you all for the input - I just wanted to get an idea of where we are at with this thing. Looks like we still have a long way to go....

Re: *Announcing the 2009 Sniper's Hide Build Rifle *

The "3" rifles are probably mine and two others that George sent a picture of. Not shipped.. Coated and "looks" to be completed.

Ive seen the pic of MY serial number on what looks to be a finished rifle. COD is the way of this warrior..lol

Re: *Announcing the 2009 Sniper's Hide Build Rifle *

I double checked, and the exact verbiage was "Last week we delivered three of the TAC build rifles". "Not shipped" is not quite the same....

COD my butt - I'm PIF!

Keep me posted,

Bill

Re: *Announcing the 2009 Sniper's Hide Build Rifle *

My theory is he would get the people who still owe a bit, like myself a rifle before the others who paid in full, that way he gets to have some cash in hand sooner than later, But hey thats just me thinking. Hopefully we all get our rifles and they shoot good. Nobody ever posts reports on what rifles have been shipped.

Re: *Announcing the 2009 Sniper's Hide Build Rifle *

I can tell you that I did receive my rifle today

Re: *Announcing the 2009 Sniper's Hide Build Rifle *

Pics will follow shortly. I took it out tonight to break it in a bit. It really is to early to tell how accurate it is. It has roughly 25 rounds down the tube and I could tell that the velocities were going up from round to round based on the impacts.

Re: *Announcing the 2009 Sniper's Hide Build Rifle

".I asked tac lite to delete the muzzle attatchment and go with as close to 26" in barrel length as the selected barrel blank will allow, with a target crown...

...otherwise, the specs of my build remain the same...

...w/o the possiblity of a suppressor I thought a 24-26" tube would be more appropriate for my cuurrnt needs..."

Gawdamn I wish I would have thought of that.. a 260 with a 18.5 barrel is not really ideal..

Live and learn.. BTW, I got a tracking number today, should be here real soon.

Re: *Announcing the 2009 Sniper's Hide Build Rifle

JeffS - you will have to get Jester to post some pics. I am so busy that I do not have time to shoot it for the next couple of weeks.... so like the swell guy that I am, I gave him a hundred rounds or so & told him to run it through it's paces

Re: *Announcing the 2009 Sniper's Hide Build Rifle

I personally did not get the Surefire option

Re: *Announcing the 2009 Sniper's Hide Build Rifle

Pictures Tom (TBASS)? I still dont believe you actually got it...

Re: *Announcing the 2009 Sniper's Hide Build Rifle

Mine has been confirmed at my FFL.. I will meet it tomorrow. After the biggest Mopar parts swap meet and Car show west of the mississippi. Should have some pics late tomorrow afternoon for yall.

Re: *Announcing the 2009 Sniper's Hide Build Rifle

I'm glad to see a few of you getting you rifles

would love to see pics

Re: *Announcing the 2009 Sniper's Hide Build Rifle

Ok, here it is.. some raw machining marks on the rear tang as seen in the pic. A few dings from brass ejecting. A small coating rub off on the bolt release. Flush cup holes could be better.Trigger feels great. Balance is great also. Had a few heads turned at the gun shop.. So here goes, all in all, Feels good, looks good, Well see how it shoots in 10 days.

Re: *Announcing the 2009 Sniper's Hide Build Rifle

I would offer to help all of you guys file small claims actions, I could get the papers from the mapleton city justice court, but only problem is the guy probably has nothing you likely could ever attach once you do get a judgement.

isn't there some basic rules a person must follow to maintain an FFL license?? a customer kept insurance money for a job that I did work on and my attorney suggested calling the sheriff and seeing if I could get them to prosecute for theft of services. I see this as being no different has anyone called the utah county sheriff and had this guy reported for theft of services?? this is really about all you can do as it sounds like this guy is a broke dick and getting a judgement will do NOTHING but cost you more money.

I too saw these guys at the conservation expo locally but had no idea of this thread. I feel aweful for you guys. the first red flag in all this was when ALL the barrels, stocks, bottom metal, and actions were not ordered. you guys deposits should have paid for the parts. and the labor should have been where he recouped the rest of the money owed.

Re: *Announcing the 2009 Sniper's Hide Build Rifle

I agree that having a judgment would have only moderate affect on him. If his license to build firearms was in jeopardy, he would act much faster.
