Official (DTA) SRS, HTI, Covert, Hunter Thread

Re: Idea! Official DTA SRS, HTI, Covert, Hunter Thread

There are a lot of CA shooters that would love to see a .510DTC conversion kit.

Re: Idea! Official DTA SRS, HTI, Covert, Hunter Thread

I have the Barrett Ex-Rings in the 15/40 (really high) on my SRS and I dont feel the need for the adjustable cheek piece. But hay it would be handy anyway. As for the HTI i cant wait to see some in Australia.

Nick,

Congratulations on getting the HTI out! Great rifles - hope to eventually be able to afford one.

Regarding adjustable cheek piece for the SRS - hope you could retrofit it rather sooner than later. My head isn't as big as I'd like it to be

to easily "weld" to the scope on a 40-MOA base (Mice aren't the largest creatures, you know

Re: Idea! Official DTA SRS, HTI, Covert, Hunter Thread

Thought I'd share, I've been shooting my new Covert for about a month now, and I can tell you I have never loved a gun more. This thing has been a dream come true from the first trigger pull. Here is a video of me shooting 1250yds at a 20" disc up in Montana, the wind was pretty calm that day, but at 1250yds and a 16" Covert Barrel shooting 175 smk's, the slightest change in wind took me left and right of the target several times. More than once I got 3 or 4 in a row, but in the video its just a miss, spot, and a quick followup shot for a hit. You'll have to crank up your volume to hear the hit, right after I lift my finger.
<object width="425" height="350"> <param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/qKV-_D2d9ko"></param> <param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param> <embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/qKV-_D2d9ko" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"> </embed></object>

Here is the target after the shooting, makes a very nice ring when it hits;

Cant wait to do more shooting, I just received my second barrel from SAC, a 24" 7mmSAUM. That one is gonna be fun.

Re: Idea! Official DTA SRS, HTI, Covert, Hunter Thread

good video! i am gonna buy a DTA. just gotta wait a little while.

Re: Idea! Official DTA SRS, HTI, Covert, Hunter Th

thx 4 info!! just gotta save the $!!!! will be buying DTA within next year.

Re: Idea! Official DTA SRS, HTI, Covert, Hunter Th

Congrats to Nick and everyone at DTA for getting the HTI's out! They look great! Someday when I have money again, I'm sure I'll be picking one up!

Re: Idea! Official DTA SRS, HTI, Covert, Hunter Th

Ok folks here we go! I've been lurking for a while here, got to get my paws on an SRS at SHOT and finally have decided to take the plunge. That said, I've got a couple of opinion based questions that I could use some help on. Currently there are a few guys in my company that shoot and reload 338LM and we've got a great range to let them fly so I'm going to go with that setup plus a 308 set for cheaper (readily available) ammo until I get my own reloading setup operational.
Planning on using a NF 5-22X56 in 30MOA rings, Atlas bipod.

Questions I have:

Anyone have first hand use of the DTSS for 338?
Talked to the company today and they're saying they don't have them in stock yet, so..what would be a good substitute suppressor/brake setup? (again, from your first hand use) I've ran Ops Inc (heavy but AWESOME) and AAC (but not in 338) so I need some help there.

Any other tips or tricks would be helpful- this is my first step up from 7.62 so I'd appreciate it!!

Re: Idea! Official DTA SRS, HTI, Covert, Hunter Th

I've shot throught the DTSS and the AAC Titan, both on the SRS, and I can say I was very impressed with both. The craftsmanship and design are magnificent, if I had the money I'd buy both, but............

Re: Idea! Official DTA SRS, HTI, Covert, Hunter Th

the DTSS is a bad ass can, i'm running one of the their first run stainless cans and couldn't be happier. their breaks are super effective and with the can make a awesome combo.

nick i honestly have no need for a HTI but i want one SO SO BAD

Re: Idea! Official DTA SRS, HTI, Covert, Hunter Th

Thanks for the comments on the HTI's guys, they turned out fantastic! They look really great. I wanted the HTI to have it's own look and be easily identifiable. The new magazine mechanism is the best Big Bore mag design I have seen and very unique.

Thunderbeast makes a great can and it has brakes that you can switch can back and forth on.

I would suggest to get the 338 can and you can use it on all your barrel conversions...

When you get your DTA rifle. I will hook you up with a storm case. here is the pictures.

We don't have a new SRS Buttpad, we have a PSR buttpad that is different than the SRS.

If you really have to have a buttstock cover/pad and don't feel like waiting until DTA has one ready, you have other alternatives. Check page 39 of this thread about halfway down the page. As was mentioned earlier in this thread, it is unclear when DTA will have their factory buttstock cover/pad available.

I don't really care what it's called, I just know that anyone shooting extended sessions of suppressed 338LM with 300's would rather have the buttpad you showed off at SHOT than the hard plastic one we currently suffer with.

Am I alone in this view?

I love the stock! Where did you get it dipped? Is it Realtree max 4?

Re: Idea! Official DTA SRS, HTI, Covert, Hunter Thread

I had it dipped by WW Guns in Hartsell AL. It is actually Proveil Reaper Woods. It turned out really good. If you send your skins there they will take care of you.

Re: Idea! Official DTA SRS, HTI, Covert, Hunter Thread

I've had some sessions of firing 100+ rounds of .338 suppressed in my SRS and wouldn't need or want a butt pad. On the other hand, if I was shooting all that ammo without the suppressor or a brake I'd like to have something. In any case the buttpad is unnecessary for most of us and so is the cheekrest. For those of you who feel the need there are guys making them. Just look through all the posts in this thread to find out who and what is out there. I've seen some nice work.

thanks for the pics! keeps me motivated when i see these rifles accessorized. saving for a can right now then DTA SRS will be next purchase!!! finishing a custom build now, so unfortunately my $ is all tied up!!

Kinda small but it's 5 shots at 100 in 308 registering .355 MOA.

Started reloading two weeks ago. Here's some of the first loads for the DTA with R15 and 175 SMKs.

Re: Idea! Official DTA SRS, HTI, Covert, Hunter Thread

Excuse me if I missed it in the previous threads but will I need to buy a new bolt if I go from 308 to 6.5x47L due to the primmer size difference. I know its the same bolt face, just heard from one source that it wont be an issue to use my standard 308 bolt. No use in paying an extra $300 for a bolt if its not required.

You can use the same bolt for 308 and 6.5x47L.

Nice video coldboremiracle, I love it when shorty's show what they can do at extended ranges.

It leaves those guys with long barrels, scratching their heads....

Re: Idea! Official DTA SRS, HTI, Covert, Hunter Thread

I had posted a previous video on slack in my trigger. I just got my rifle back from DTA after the fix and now this how it looks.

Massive improvement. Can't wait to bring it out this weekend to shoot.

Re: Idea! Official DTA SRS, HTI, Covert, Hunter Thread

Mhines, that is my same experience with DTA CS, and my problem was not anything to do with their design. But they still jumped through hoops to make my rifle work perfectly for me.

Re: Idea! Official DTA SRS, HTI, Covert, Hunter Thread

I couldn't disagree more. There is a huge need for an adjustable cheek peice on the SRS chassis. This is my one and only complaint about this system. I recently threw mine up on Gunsamerica after becoming fed up with trying mounts with different centerlines, slapping a sh*t load of duct tape on the stock, etc to get a good weld. To say the least, I was PISSED after spending that much on a long range system only to miss something that I simply overlooked due to it being extremely common on the majority of modern rifle systems. Above and beyond the size of a shooters head, there are other factors that come in to play. I have a Premier Heritage on mine and I think FFP optics exponentially add to the need for a riser. Regardless, I'm selling mine so I can actually go shoot. In the mean time im glad DTA seems to have taken the request of their customers and hope to provides a solution for this soon. I sure wish what we saw out at SHOT was available now, as this is a fantastic system other than that one thing.....

Re: Idea! Official DTA SRS, HTI, Covert, Hunter Thread

What's the need for the trigger fix?

I have a gen 1 DTA that has virtually no slack...

...was this just a 'problem' with early guns or?

Parker

Re: Idea! Official DTA SRS, HTI, Covert, Hunter Thread

1.5 inch scope mount lines me up pretty well there, and it works for most other people. What mounts did you try Jasonfaz? DTA has great mounts, and Larue has a very nice one that is just about 1.5 inch.

My gen 2 covert has a similar trigger issue. HUGE amount of creep/pull distance compared to the other SRS I got to try. Still kills targets quite well lol, but it is rifle that deserves a better trigger than that. DTA CS has been helpful so far, and will hopefully be walking me a through a couple ideas on the phone tomorrow. IF that fails, I am sure they will remedy it at the shop.

Re: Idea! Official DTA SRS, HTI, Covert, Hunter Thread

Just sold the srs tonight so in the market for a covert! Excited to spend money...

Re: Idea! Official DTA SRS, HTI, Covert, Hunter Thread

Congrats on the sale! I was watching your setup for a while but this is my first jump into the high power stuff.

Re: Idea! Official DTA SRS, HTI, Covert, Hunter Thread

Looks like the rifle gets to go back to DTA for a bit. Might be a transfer bar issue, but not 100 percent sure yet. Looks like a good time to get that monopod retrofit...

Anyone had the monopod done? How about turnaround time?

Re: Idea! Official DTA SRS, HTI, Covert, Hunter Thread

Has anyone received there HTI's yet? We shipped a bunch of them out and they should be arriving anyday.

What kind of accuracy are you guys getting with the HTI .50's at say 100 meters, and 1000 meters? What rounds does this rifle prefer?

I sent mine in for the monopod. I think they did it in about 10 days from the time they got it to sitting back in my hands. I'm sure it probably varies based on how many other thinks are in the fire...

Re: Idea! Official DTA SRS, HTI, Covert, Hunter Thread

The HTI shoots most 50 BMG rounds pretty good, we have our own 50 BMG ammo because most rounds are not match quality although decent surplus stuff shoots around 1.5 MOA and smaller. Our ammo is 30 days out we had everything done but just needed to confirm the load out of our production guns as it was developed in our prototype HTI's.

Thanks

Nick

So no one at DTA has shot any match grade or handloaded .50 caliber ammunition out of the HTI .50 yet? What about the 750 grain A-Max round? Really interested in DTA HTI, but was hoping it would be 3/4 to .5 MOA Weapon? I realize that without proper load development this is difficult to achieve with any platform. I guess I will have to wait and see what the guys who have them on the way say in there range reports.

Re: Idea! Official DTA SRS, HTI, Covert, Hunter Thread

Yes of course we shot match 50 BMG through the HTI guns, those group sizes were for military grade ammo. With handloads we were able to get the 750 grain amax's down to 1/2 MOA. In fact some surplus stuff shot 1/2 moa surprisingly but most 50 BMG ammo on the market isn't match grade, that's why I responded like I did.

Thank's for the clarification on that. I knew just from the SRS platform that the HTI would be a hammer. I will be in touch soon with my order. Thanks again.

Re: Idea! Official DTA SRS, HTI, Covert, Hunter Thread

Maybe I missed it in the 43 pages, anyone have some load data for subs thorough a covert? Got one on the way and getting ready!

Re: Idea! Official DTA SRS, HTI, Covert, Hunter Thread

78steeler,
After reading my first response I can see why there was still concern, the HTI will shoot as good or better than any other 50BMG you will find in the world, like the SRS compares to other .338 platforms.
