Hello guy's. Aside from the difference in magnification, how dose the SS scope stack up to the Leupold?? I'm thinking of buying another scope, I have always been a Leupold fan but have been reading some grate things about the SS. I really don't need a 20 power scope for my particular application. The 14 power is good for what I need. I'm more interested in the clarity of the glass. What do you guy's think??

Have both, love both, but different applications. My Leupold is a sturdy, clear, hard working piece of glass, and it sits atop my AR.
I love the scope for what it is, and I got it for much less than the going rate. It works well and has never let me down.
The SS is another animal, it's features hands down smoke the Leupold. Very easy to use, beautiful picture, always repeatable I love it even more because it sits atop a DTA covert.
If 14X is all you need, just turn the SS down to 14, thats usually where I run mine. I think either scope will do you well, but if I was buying again, it'd be the SS.

Re: Leupold Mk4 4.5-14X50 vs SS 5-20X50

I have both. I was just shooting them this weekend. The Leupold is on my .50(with no problems) and the SS is on my rem 700. They are both great scopes. The Leupold has great glass and I like the TMR reticle better than the milquad. It has plenty of elevation( I think it's 80moa total) but the SS has more(I think 30mil). The SS also has great glass. I actually haven't done a direct comparison at the same mag so this may not be fair but I think the mk4 glass is a bit better. The SS is definitely robust and has great clicks and I have no tracking issues. Having 10 mil per Revolution is Another great feature of the SS. The mk4 has no tracking issues either. Mk4 is sfp, ss is ffp. I like ffp better but shooting at 1k the reticle can be a little thick but i can 1/4 an 8" plate with no problems. The mk4 was my first higher end scope purchase and I don't regret it. However, now that I have used mil/mil scopes I won't buy another scope without matching turrets.

The mk4 is getting replaced with a SS on my .50. Mostly for matching turrets and more magnification. I'm not planning on gettin rid of the mk4 though. I like it enough not to sell it but I wish it had mil turrets. It's going on my m1a until I get a ffp mil/mil scope for it.
