Monthly Sporting Rifle match RATON NM

Re: Monthly Sporting Rifle match RATON NM

Running the SRM in its current format on Saturdays is a no-go due to the setup time and staff travel from the Denver area.

FYI, the SnipersHide Cup will be held Thr-Sat.

I would love to shoot this one, but Sunday is a family/religious day for me and I don't shoot that day. There may be others as well that would come shoot it if it were on a Saturday.

I know there are other shooting events and some guys want to do double duty in Pueblo, then do this one.

Anyways, I had a great time at my first PDog shoot at CRC this weekend, it was a very friendly group of guys and I was drooling over all the top-end gear there, especially the TBAC cans and AI rifles.

Would love to shoot a more tactical style match in the area!
</div></div>

It's not a 'tactical' match per se, just a different style than our typical monthly matches. More rounds and a mini-vacation away from the big city in the restaurant mecca of Raton!

Re: Monthly Sporting Rifle match RATON NM

Ha! Right on, thanks for the info guys, I understand. Might have to look at the SH cup and some of the other TBAC shoots.

Re: Monthly Sporting Rifle match RATON NM

I'll be there this weekend! Looking forward to this for months. Crazy assed wife left and moved in with her boyfriend on Christmas day so now I don't hear any bitching when I head to Raton for the weekend. May need a new TBAC can once the divorce papers clear.

Hope we don't freeze our a**es off.

Re: Monthly Sporting Rifle match RATON NM

Awesome day. Started off cold but warmed up quickly. Nice consistent wind (mostly). Most importantly, no mud. Had a fantastic time. Thanks again to Mike and all the crew who set this up each month. We really appreciate it!

Re: Monthly Sporting Rifle match RATON NM

I stayed at the Best Western Sands Motel (sign outside said America's Best Value). Seemed fine, and free WiFi. Total was $66.87.

Ate at Mulligan's, which is across the street inside the Best Western Plus. Food was pretty good and they have Odell 90 Shilling Ale on-tap.

Re: Monthly Sporting Rifle match RATON NM

I lost a multicam RedTac rear bag. If anyone picked it up, I'd sure like to get it back.

Re: Monthly Sporting Rifle match RATON NM

Similar to DT's post...

I'm planning on driving down from the Denver area on Saturday afternoon or evening and returning to Denver Sunday after the match.

I'm looking for someone to split the transportation costs (gas) with.

PM if interested.

Re: Monthly Sporting Rifle match RATON NM

A big thank you to everyone who makes this monthly match possible. Gorgeous weather, long range rifles, and great friends...perfect way to spend a weekend!!

Re: Monthly Sporting Rifle match RATON NM

... and a big congrats to you for a really great job with your 52/60! I believe that is the best result of any woman in the history of the match by a substantial margin. With 68 shooters this month, you bested more than 63 of them in the face of some pretty quirky winds. Nicely done!

Mike/Zak/Chuck/Anybody Knowledgeable -

Can a spectator tag along with a shooter on the stages in this match - strictly as a spectator - i.e. no COMU at the firing line, no spotting, carrying a shooters gear, etc? Didn't see anything about this in the Rules....

The wife was interested in checking the Match out in this manner; heck, maybe she'll start as a competitor and kicking my ass as usual, LOL.

Kindly advise.... Thanks

</div></div> Take her along as a spectator no problem. It be more fun for her to bring her gear and just try it out for the first time.

Re: Monthly Sporting Rifle match RATON NM

My squad in February had a wife as the shooter with her husband tagging along.

Just make sure you're clear with Mike so he doesn't pay the Whittington Center for an extra shooter.

Re: Monthly Sporting Rifle match RATON NM

So, everyone that stayed home and watched TV, you know who you are... You got beat by a girl.

In fact, every shooter (there was lots of us) today got beat by a girl.

Many congrats mrsquickdraw. Nice shooting.

Re: Monthly Sporting Rifle match RATON NM

Re: Monthly Sporting Rifle match RATON NM

Jesse, congratulations, that is just flat out great shooting!! Very few have ever shot a 57 at this match, I sure know I haven't even come close. Really glad to see such an accomplishment.

Re: Monthly Sporting Rifle match RATON NM

Hey hey hey!!!! Wait just a minute you all!!!

MOST of the competitors were beaten by 2 GIRLS!! (including me
smile.gif
)

Tery Terry shot a solid 52.

They were the only two females entered and beat 45 of the 50 entrants!

Major congrats to BOTH!

Re: Monthly Sporting Rifle match RATON NM

I missed the match due to the flu, but at least I can still say I haven't been beaten by a girl (yet). Nice job Jesse.

Ok now its my turn. Name is Beck, I shoot CRC and Pueblo. I'm normally attached to RJ and Jess. Looking to share a ride this time around. PM me if interested.

PS drive a diesel so I bet your car gets better mpg.

Re: Monthly Sporting Rifle match RATON NM

Mike/Zak -

Sorry if this has been coverd in this now 13 page thread:

Rules state that a sling is the only permissable way to carry the rifle during this match.

Can you make an exception for shooters to carry their rifles in an Eberlestock Low Drag/Gunslinger pack?

Re: Monthly Sporting Rifle match RATON NM

Mike is the MD and he is the one that would have to make that call.

IMO (only), the rifle packs have historically caused or encouraged muzzle discipline problems.

Re: Monthly Sporting Rifle match RATON NM

I have shot this match many times using an Eberlestock pack. I have also seen a few other people do the same. I have used both an Operator and a Gunslinger II. I first learned about Eberlestock packs at this match when I was on a squad with a guy that had one.

Re: Monthly Sporting Rifle match RATON NM

Packs to carry the rifle are permitted but proper muzzle discipline is required .
