Picked up an M1A 'smithed by Mr. George Gardner himself. It's in a McMillan stock that feels like it's a solid fill. The gentleman who sold it to me told me George built 3 M1As for him on that stock pattern in partial payment for a milling machine back in 2000. The rifle has been in his safe, unfired, ever since he took delivery. It has a Krieger heavy barrel with a 1-12 twist. He's never taken it out of the bedding. Of course, I'm taking a lot of this on faith. I did call GAP, but didn't get to speak to George. The employee I spoke with said they built a few M1As a while (?) back, but didn't fool with them anymore. It's too ugly to be a safe queen, but George apparently didn't build many M1As. Shoot or no shoot...that is the question.
The stock has an adjustable cheek piece and a spacer system to alter LOP. The cheek piece is kinda like that Kydex one that a guy on here sells for any rifle, but he developed it for the M14s; the difference is my cheek piece is a solid 3/8" thick and is rock-steady as you could want with just one thumbscrew holding it in place.
