Surprise, AZ
ive been firing 180gr interbonds and IMR4831 out of my 300 since i got the rifle and started loading for it about 2 months ago. I want to move up to 208gr amax and a better powder combination. it seems that RL22 and H1000 are the most popular for the 300 win mag.

the rifle is a stock remington 700 sendero II. plans to add a trigger, AICS, and true the action/upgrade the barrel down the line.

I live in Phoenix AZ which gives H1000 a nod there. but what are the characteristics of each powder(burn rate, durability, how well they meter....), right now im shooting at about 200-400 but my range can go to 1000 on certain days.

Thanks so much

Re: rl22 or H1000 for 300 win mag & Amax 208

H-1000 for sure. In my experience it's the most temp stable powder for my 300wm. I easily got 2950fps in my old 26" brl. I'm using the 225hpbt now. Still with H-1000, & seeing 2860fps with them.

Re: rl22 or H1000 for 300 win mag & Amax 208

100% H1000 as well. 76.0 under a 208Amax is my go to Load, my 26" barrel right now is getting a brake installed, as soon as I have it back, i will be doing some Chronograph testing, but it loved that load.

Re: rl22 or H1000 for 300 win mag & Amax 208

Are you guys jumping the 208's at all? Im trying to figure out the load I've already been sold on h1000 now I'm just knocking down all the little details.

Are you using the same load for your 225s?

No. My 208 load was 75.5 gr H-1000 seated .002" off the lands.
My 225 load is 74.1gr H-1000 seated .005" off the lands.
The 208 was a good .3 moa load but I have the 225 shooting .193 moa. And its bc is better @ .710 G1. I use .356 G7 in shooter @ 2860 fps.
Also my chamber is tighter than sammi spec.

Re: rl22 or H1000 for 300 win mag & Amax 208

That sounds great. Exactly the info I needed. Ive been running the 208's way too fast apparently they don't shoot well in the 3200 fps range. I noticed the slower I loaded them the better they grouped. With all this said 33 dollars per 100 for the 225's in comparison to 34 dollars per 50 for the 230 Hybrids the cost effectiveness is stupid good.

+ another for H1000.

I actually shoot .5 with 220 SMK's @ 2830-40 FPS over 76gr of H1000.

Re: rl22 or H1000 for 300 win mag & Amax 208

My 208's should be on the front steps sometime today, and hope to pick up a pound of H1000 Monday(if I can find any locally). My Hornady manual doesn't list H1000 for the 208's, what is a good(and safe) starting load to work up from?

Re: rl22 or H1000 for 300 win mag & Amax 208

I've run both and both are great powders.
I find Rl-22 a bit faster (at the same pressure) and in my rifles has proven a bit more accurate...Only way to find out is to try it.
The temperature stable thing is a bit over rated IMHO.

Re: rl22 or H1000 for 300 win mag & Amax 208

The Current Hornady Load Manual cites RL-22 72.4gr for 2850fps H-1000 is not on their load list.
I use these for 300 Win Mag, but heard that these same bullets can be loaded in 300 BLK Subsonic. Any Body have any load data for that? Commonality might be nice

Re: rl22 or H1000 for 300 win mag & Amax 208

My 300 load is 77.5 H4831SC, CCI mag primer, 168 AccuBonds @ 3115. It shoots a constant 1/2 everytime w/o fail. That is going to change soon. Rebuild coming in a week or so.

Re: rl22 or H1000 for 300 win mag & Amax 208

Got my 300 on the way too. How's the recoil with those 208s and h1000, is a brake a necessity? How much more recoil than the 168-180 bullets?

Re: rl22 or H1000 for 300 win mag & Amax 208

Seems H1000 is more temp stable than 22.

I shoot alot of 208's, and I can easily handle 20 shots in a row of a 300WM, but then I find my self flinching (and I am a big strong guy). I just picked up my R700 XCR LRT after getting a brake installed, havent shot it yet, but the smith said after he shot before and after it shoots like a 308 now (so I hope to be able to shoot all day with it if I wanted).

Re: rl22 or H1000 for 300 win mag & Amax 208

My 300 wm weighs 18# with brake & my ar-10 kicks harder.

Mine weighs only 10. Might shoot in a few tactical matches with it. I got allot of 178s for my 308. Probably just use them with a fat charge of h1000.

Re: rl22 or H1000 for 300 win mag & Amax 208

All the match directors around here have banned magnums so I don't compete any more.

Why if you don't mind me asking?

Re: rl22 or H1000 for 300 win mag & Amax 208

Not really sure. 1st they said it was because it beat up the targets. Then it was because it beat up the frames. I argued that ar500 will easily stand up to my 300wm, & my frames were made of 2x4s, & a piece of pipe. & they withstood 4 matches with a few magnums there without any problems. One was actually only 250yd out, & the 6" plate would spin around the pipe 3-4 times after being hit my a 208 a max. All for nought. They wouldn't budge, so I don't host matches for them any more, & I don't compete in theirs.

Re: rl22 or H1000 for 300 win mag & Amax 208

I allowed them at my matches, but I am running the match so I can't compete. They banned my rifle from competing @ their matches effectively banning me from all the local competitions. There was the target thing, then the target frame thing, then it was to "level the playing field", yada , yada. I am done with them.

Re: rl22 or H1000 for 300 win mag & Amax 208

I had a friend get told that his bipod was not in the spirit of the competition right after he shot some quarter minute groups during practice at an undisclosed south alabama tactical match... The leveling the playing field thing is a load of crap people just don't like someone to beat them consistantly.
