Rifle Scopes AI dovetail mount with missing recoil pin

Hey all. Just wondering how important any other AI guys think the recoil pin is on the dovetail mounts? I'm not sure how mine came out, but the pin is entirely gone... wasn't like that last time I mounted it!

The obvious answer is just shoot it and see if it moves, but I'm wondering if the clamp torque alone is enough to keep the S&B 5x25 from sliding.

Recoil to be expected: 338LM

I'm going to order a new mount anyway, but has anyone else lost the recoil pin on their mounts?

I'm staring at the pin on an AI mount. There's nothing fancy about the pin -- it's not machined or anything like that.

It's a very basic rollpin that seems about 4mm in diameter. Get yourself to a hardware store and don't waste $$$ on a new mount.

Yeah I very well could repair it. I am very interested in the Spuhr mounts (SA-4801) that Lowlight did a review on not too long ago though ; )

It's built like a brick shit house! Then again, it's $410.00 also.

Reconstitute it with a new roll pin anyways ... it will sell for ~$130 to partially fund the Spuhr!

no mount is worth $410. what does that do any better than an ai mount? its your money do what you like but jeez.

In the back of my mind, my thoughts verbatim... None at all that I can think of. Still, it would be a nice piece of <span style="font-style: italic">action candy</span> if I come across disposable income one day.
