Hey guys just joined the forum and looking to get into FR/R shooting this year when I get my rifle done. It has been trued/blueprinted/lapped and rechambered. Now I've inlet my new B/C Medalist 2 adjustable stock for DBM and I'm trying to bed the action w/ Devon. On my 3rd attempt now :-/. Anyways I live in east tn and orsa is my closest place for F-Class. So help me out guys...tips,advice,anything is appreciated.

Re: List of needed gear for noob

One item about bedding: Wrap your stock screws with two layers of plumbers teflon tape, so they don't get stuck in the epoxy, and the sides don't bear on the stock. Remove tape after bedding. Also don't tighten the stock screws past gentle hand tight, so the action is not stressed while the epoxy cures.

I'd hold off buying a lot of crap you may not need until after you attended a few matches and see what's really needed.

Also seek guidence from the more experienced shooters at your matches.

Re: List of needed gear for noob

In addition to the shooting gear listed above and in the link, don't forget the bug spray, sunscreen if you need it, a hat, and plenty of fluids, all of which you probably already have at home. A few simple items can make your day at the competition a lot more comfortable and allow you to focus on shooting and having fun. As mentioned, don't worry about buying a bunch of new stuff, you'll come back from your first comp with a long list of things from seeing other people's gear. Then you just have to sort out what you really need, what you don't need, and what you can afford. Have fun and good luck!

50-70, generally. Depending on the match format.

Re: List of needed gear for noob

Typically we shoot either 3 matches of 15 shots each for record or 3 matches of 20 shots each for record. Weekends tend to be 3 matches on Sat and 2 on Sunday so you are putting 100 rounds on paper for record + sighters. There are exceptions but most formats allow unlimited sighters. I typically use 3 to 5 but have been known to take more.

Bring 75 to 80 rounds and you should be covered and not worrying about running out of ammo.

Re: List of needed gear for noob

Here locally, we tend towards a full Palma course of fire (2 sighters + 15 shots for score) x 3 = 51, plus an extra course of fire ("any-any" match) in the afternoon of (2) + 20, yielding a full day of shooting at 73 rounds + any extra unlimited sighters/fouling shots you might like to throw in at the first yard line of the day.

Brother I ment the rest of the gear is extra. Not the shooting rest

Re: List of needed gear for noob

No Sir.... No Brakes per NRA rules. There are some clubs that allow them to participate, but not compete.
