CARLOS HATHCOCK QUESTION

He is credited with 2,286 yd kill shot using a 50 cal in 1967.
My qusetion is, what kind of weapon did he use? <span style="font-weight: bold"> </span> <span style="font-style: italic"> </span>

I might be wrong, but if that person would not of stood up after he fired, he would of missed. I think that was discussed by him on the Military Channel years ago.

I believe the scope was only a 10x Unertl which is really impressive.

Probably wrong and nit picking but I read the book at least 3 times

I thought he/they were using 8X Unertl's at the time?? M2 had a mount made up to utilize the Unertl mounts. Wrong? Also the target was a kid on a bike with a handle bar load of AK's not???? First shot hit the front tire and knocked him/bike down, kid grabbed an AK and started firing at the hill he thought they were on, so Carlos 'put the hammer on him'. or am I getting old

SDWhirlwind, I do believe you are correct as I have read the book more than once. But I am pretty sure it was a 10x scope. otherwise what you posted is correct. At least from my readings

You might be getting old...

I do remember the part about Hathcock saying he would have missed had the guy not stood up - the bullet went slightly high from where he was aiming. The target was bent over at a ditch or water way or something?

I'm having a hard time getting my head wrapped around Hathcock using a M2 as a sniper rile. Did he set up in a target rich environment, did he fire one round or a burst?

It was in a sandbagged position on a tripod, with a t&e. He also had the range. And fired on single shot

The kid on the bike was another shot. The record shot was an enemy soldier who bent over to get a drink. He stood up just in time to catch that bullet.

The way I remember it is he nailed a VC woman who was squatting down to pee. That woman had a pretty nasty reputation for slicing up a captured marine. Not sure if that was the longest shot though. I'm getting old too.

20x Unertl. The SeaBees crafted the mount.

He says in the referenced video that he would have missed high except the target was bent over when he fired, and stood up while the bullet was en route.

The bicycle thing was a different incident.

That shot also took two shots. He did miss the first shot and made the hit with the second shot. No I am not going to move furniture blocking the part of the bookshelf to pull the reference book(Not the non fiction paperback) that this comes from. Outside of that, this thread exemplifies the laziness currently found within our society as to finding things out for yourself, or doing your own research before asking any relavent questions.
