Re: My Tikka finally all put together

Very nice. Should be a shooter. Keep us posted.

Regards, Paul.

Re: My Tikka finally all put together

The rifle is all factory. But I intend to do upgrades on it in the future.

Still waiting for a decent weather here in Iceland to go and shoot it in.

I roadraced motorcylces in the early 80's. We had a race cancelled in Southern California because the track was damp. Two guys who had driven all the way down from Oregon had a fit. They said that is rains over 200 days a years where they're from and if they waited for a dry day, they'd never get to race.

Embrace the elements. Get out there and shoot.

Re: My Tikka finally all put together

Does Tikka still offer the varmint model in 260 or was it new recently? I'm very interested to see some groups and also to know how you came across this rifle. Once again, very nice and I've been looking all day to find one and can't find one anywhere.

Re: My Tikka finally all put together

Well if it was only the rain it would be fine. It is the wind that is delaying me. And "Icelandic" wind can be quite strong.

Tikkas are very common here in Iceland. I bought this rifle a recently. I had previously ordered a Savage LRP in 260 Rem but I gave up on the wait. I had seen this rifle in the shop since last December so I made the decision to cancel the Savage and go with the Tikka. Don't regret that.

From what I read on this forum, and others, you don't get many options in calibers for the Tikka in the US. It's is relatively easy to get whatever caliber Tikka makes here in Iceland. Tikka Varmint in 6,5 x 55, 308, 2506 and other are very common. The 260 Rem is not a common caliber here, in fact it is not well known. I get a lot of questions on a local forum about it. That is probably the reason it was still sitting in the shop when I bought it.

Just busting your balls.

Out of curiosity, how windy does it get there? I shot in Eastern Montana in January where it is chronically windy and shot 4.5 mils of wind at 1125 yards on Sat. Sunday we measured 40 mph winds with gusts of 55 mph.

BTW, this is one of the only ways to get a Tikka .260 in the States:

Beretta is our importer and they are do not know their market here and are apparently not open to suggestion.

Re: My Tikka finally all put together

It can get quite windy. You can see wind in the range you mentioned. It's not that windy now but from previous experience I do not like to zero in a scope in wind if I can help it.

I work as a fisherman (on a big freezer trawler). We mainly fish in the waters between Iceland and Greenland and in the winter it gets WINDY!.

Yes I have seen your Tikka and I have admired it. I can only hope mine will shoot as well. But I'm going to go a different way with mine in the future - GRS riflestock etc.

Yes I can not understand what Beretta is thinking in the US market. It's simple here - if Tikka/Sako makes it you can get it with one excemption - you have way more choices in Sako TRG

Re: My Tikka finally all put together

That makes sense.... the zeroing part. I'm sure it will shoot fine. You'll have to post pics. Are you shooting factory or loading your own?

Out of curiosity, what calibers are the TRG available in there?

Well yeah its easy to get a Tikka or a Sako here but trying to get the dealership to order an left hand tikka is impossible as is getting any parts for either!
Waited 4 years for a left hand Tikka then i gave up on them.

Im working on finding someone in Scandinavia to get Tikkas from as i refuse to deal with the Icelandic dealership...

well done ranting and gotta say grats on your rifle, it looks like a really nice setup and i bet it will be awesome in a GRS stock.

Re: My Tikka finally all put together

TRG 22 in 308 (Black only) TRG42 in 300 Win and 338 Lapua (special licence) black and green and I think also tan.

Sauer 202 is right with the left hand.

I reload my own ammo.

Re: My Tikka finally all put together

Hey JRob, what bolt shroud, knob, and scope base are you running? Where did you get them from?

Re: My Tikka finally all put together - Updated

Went to the range today. Quite happy with the results. Loaded Lapua brass with Lapua Scenar 123 gr. A few diffrent loads, COL same on all.

Shoot all in all 50 shots.

Rounds 26 to 30

Last 5 shoots of the day.

Now back to the reloading table and find the best combination.
