Re: PMG Spring 2012 Team Precision Rifle Match

Guys and gals of PMG, well done and thanks for putting on a great match. The improvements from last year were noticed by everyone and we all appreciate your efforts in making this one of the best events out there.

Here's a vid I put together last night after we got back. It's part of a stage where I actually turned my camera on!

Wow, I have shot a bunch of matches before that don't even come close to this match, well run, no lag time, great crew and stages. Awesome job, can't say enough about the match, I am really glad I made the trip and paired up with Chad.

John and Sydnei it was great getting to see you guys shoot together, I can hardly wait till my Sydney gets old enough to start shooting with me and hope we have as close a bond as you guys have.

Great meeting you and your wife Jim G., listen to your wife and don't touch anything!!! LOL

Re: PMG Spring 2012 Team Precision Rifle Match

thanks everyone for the kind words, but it's the competitors that make the match what it is. we're just responding to the feedback from last year. please don't hesitate to email any constructive criticism or suggestions to us.

thanks again to the ROs and the competitors for safe gun handling and great attitudes!

Re: PMG Spring 2012 Team Precision Rifle Match

Thanks to the entire PMG staff, the RO's, the landowners and all of the sponsors! I had a blast getting my a$$ handed to me.

Re: PMG Spring 2012 Team Precision Rifle Match

That was a hell of match! It has come so far from the first 20 person match. I would have to say my favorite area was Tom's stages. Talk about brain overload. What Tom put together is the kind of thing you get so frustrated with while you are shooting but on the ride home you are like shit that was cool.

Only thing I might change would be to break it in half and brief and shoot it then the other but if brain overload is what you were going for then keep it the same.

This was by far the best PMG yet. Thanks to Ryan, Scott, Tom and all the volunteer staff. You guys ran a top notch match.

heh thanks

it was something I've been wanting to try for a while. The point was not actually brain overload, but rather

1) getting lots of rounds down range with little downtime so people aren't sitting in the sun for an hour waiting to shoot BUT without sacrificing quality... the rounds are still interesting

2) demonstrating skills in a measurable way. i.e. showing (hopefully) improvement over the years by repeating certain benchmark drills (like IDPA type qualifiers) that require weapon manipulation, quick target acquisition, lateral and vertical transitions, holds (or really really fast knob twisting), etc.

3) opportunity for lots of teamwork and problem solving, where the only parameters given were time and round count and targets (and occasionally target sequence). Should come as no surprise that the teams that worked together and talked their partner onto the next target and called out their dope did better than the ones who did not. the teams that finished at the top also used spotting scopes well and divided up the shooting labor better. strategy played a pretty big role there. heck, next year, i'd expect to see people dialing their partners elevation so they can stay on glass...

so... if you have feedback on how to accomplish that with less brain overload, please provide it publicly or privately!

my personal opinion on it was that it went pretty much as I expected (orderly and finished exactly on time, somewhat confusing at first but after a couple of drills, most teams got in a groove and started enjoying it (or lost their temper and had a meltdown)). If PMG does it again next time, I think people would get used to that format pretty quick. I certainly wouldn't want the entire match to run like that, but having a quarter of the points on it seemed reasonable.

edit: btw, one thing that was interesting to watch was the mental mistakes like people doing standing to prone without a mag in the gun and watching it fall out the bottom of the action... or running out of ammo on a stage because they didn't top off their mags. Also under tight time limits, people wasted a lot of time trying to hammer their actions open (presumably because they were loading too hot?).

I'd say the MOST interesting thing I saw was all the people who went after the high risk hostage targets on the choice or milling stages instead of playing it safe, knowing that if they hit one they would zero the stage.

But my greatest thank you goes to my Daughter Sydnei, who volunteered to step in for a last minute partner cancellation, You shot great after those first 3 stages when we got a working rifle in your hands, you Made us competitive against anyone! It was great to spend a weekend with you, and to actually compete with you instead of watching you, is a dream come true.
Congrats to the winners and JP for the top 2 teams We were lucky enough to have a couple top teams in our squad. Good job on Trina as she keeps dragging Ace to the top! And looks like Sean Little has found a partner that can make an Old Marine and a crusty 308 winners.

+1 to all of that! Thanks to everyone once again for such a great weekend. Mike, Ryan, Tom, Scott, sponsors, volunteer staff, you all are awesome and I hope you know how much your hard work is appreciated. Scott, thank you so much for setting me up with Sean, and Sean, thank you so much for driving all night and shooting with me on one hour's sleep and for everything I learned from you over those two days! Jon, thank you very much for the kind words and for dinner! It was so cool to shoot with you and Sydnei. I can only hope to be lucky enough to have my future daughter or son cancel plans to go shoot with me. You two kicked ass, too! In fact, I really enjoyed everyone I got to meet and shoot with. I always learn a ton every opportunity I have to shoot with all of you, and can't wait for the next one. You all make the sport great!

the Spring PMG a huge success. You went all-out, Thank You.

Congrat's to Clark and John on the win.

Thank You to the Sponsors that donate so generously to the prize table.

Tech & Black-X for the pic's and vid's, thanks for sharing.

Hope to shoot PMG in the future. Loved the format.

Best Regards

Re: PMG Spring 2012 Team Precision Rifle Match

I went to PMG as an RO. Thanks for the invite Ryan! It was a blast to see so many great shooters and gear, and to put some faces with names from the hide. Working with Scott, Jeff and Larry in Scott's area was a great time. I did learn a couple of things, If I decide to shoot one of these PMG matches, my 51 year old fatass needs to get in wayyyyy better shape!
The sponsors REALLY put up some very nice things for the table!
All in all, a great experience and I look forward to doing it again.

Dammit, I need to post that picture is my intellectual property since I took it. Wait...me intellectual? Never mind.

It's interesting what isn't said here about John's handloads is that his gun ran near perfectly despite the fact he had a bunch of blown primers down in the lower. Wow!

It was my pleasure (I'm a masochist) to work as an RO for this match. Echoing Tom's statement about team communication on the firing line, those that talked rang the steel on that stage. And to THE Dave, I still couldn't tell where they were hitting bro.

Re: PMG Spring 2012 Team Precision Rifle Match

Thanks to Ryan, Tom & Scott for putting on another great match and letting me come back to compete. You guys have made this match one of the best in the country and I can't wait to get back out there to shoot it again. All of the stages were a challange and very well thought out and the times were so that if you were not on the trigger fast you would not get your rds off in time. Great match guy!!!!

Thanks to all the sponsors of a great prize table and to USO for the certificate I picked up. You guys are great and your help is above and beyond.

I also would like to thank my shooting partner John Paul for his sponsorship of the match and for his great shooting skills. We had never shot together before but everything came together for us when we got on the range. He also hooked me up on the perfect rifle this game the JPE LRP 07 6.5 Creedmoor and Bushnell 3.5 x 21 HDMR along with Hornady 120 AMAX.

This was the first time I had seen or shot the rifle till the match started and I could not have been happier shooting the JP LRP 07 as it shot better that I did.

Congrads to all the top teams on some great shooting and I look forward to seeing you all again soon. Also congrads to the top 308 team who finished third, you guys really done well and its good to see you in the top spots where you should be.
