Making bad guys nervous
So my brother got his girlfriend prego, and she wants to give it up for adoption, so he has decided to take custody and raise his child.

So I want to get him a manly diaper bag, and me never having kids have no clue what I am looking for. I figured a lot of you guys had babies and would have some cool Ideas. I was thinking a Bug out Bag would work, but not sure.

Any thing you guys think would be work, let me know. I really want him to stay pumped about this whole situation, so the cooler the bag the better.

My buddy has a Maxpedition shoulder bag. Not a really big one. Able to carry a 1 liter Nalgene, formula for the kid and a couple of spare diapers/clothes change. Also has room for a full size M&P. Well made and versatile. He will still be using it when the child is graduating high school.

Definetly not a Vera Wang shit bag that his wife carries!

If I had another baby I'd use my falcon II maxpedition bag. The number one thing I hated about the diaper bags I used...the single large compartment. Like a woman's purse you could never find anything in it!

Falcon II has a spot for clothes, diapers and wipes, ointment and bottles.

Not cheap but would be a sweet diaper bag.

Check out "patrol bags". I use a 5.11 Patrol Ready #59012 as a range bag I got on sale ~ $25. Tactical black only.

It has carry handles as well as a shoulder strap. The interior compartments can be user set with the velcro panels. I use it as a range bag, but can certainly see it as a "manly baby/diaper bag.

we got a kid pack from Sherpani that has a little removable mini pack that works great. i was able to ski with my little "grrl" in the pack from about 6 months until 18 months. it's definitely worth looking around to see if you can find one (or buy mine if you want- my kids are getting too big for it).

the little removable pack holds enough food for a day or two & the bottom pouch holds diapers, clothes for days, and an extra fleece for you (it also works great for stowing a few grouse when you're hunting).

this thing has probably logged over 500 miles on my back (skiing, hiking, hunting, it's done it all). it's even been to europe a couple times. they're tough! it also fits just about any torso size without having to adjust it.

I wish someone had given me something along the lines of the Tactical Tailor bag when I was 10 or so - great bag for all ages. You could get that for a diaper bag, and then give it to the kid when he is old enough. I would go for either that or one of the Maxpedition packs, depending on whether you want a shoulder bag or a backpack.

Sounds like a good guy doing a great thing. Best of luck to him.

Eagle Industries actually makes a diaper bag....look on Triad Tactical, I last saw one there.

My wife gave me UTG (Maxpedition rip-off) over-the-shoulder bag as a "new dad" gift and it works great. Not a ton of room, but it will hold the essentials. Surprisingly good quality and great price, too ($25). If you want something a little bigger one of the smaller camelbak packs would be great. I think they come in in OD/BDU colors as well. Props to your brother for stepping up to the plate. It's not going to be an easy job, but it will pay off if he stays with it for the long haul.

Good for him. Any boy can make a baby only a man can raise one. I have two kids and run a falcon II maxpedition.

Speaking as a father of two. We have had many diaper bags. The diaper bag I carried was one from Eddie Bauer.It was Olive Drab and Khaki and looked like a nice laptop bag. But the idea of a tactical backpack with MOLLE loops on it does sound appealing .

What I used for my two youngest and what I will be using for the one on the way is the 5.11 P.U.S.H pack it has a spot for two bottles, space for a couple diapers and some baby stuff. its a relatively small pack when compared to a traditional diaper bag. it also has a compartment for youir pistol with the velro holster and a extra mag holder on top. I started with the 5.11 bail out bag but quickly realized it was more suited as a bail out bag. highly reccomend the P.U.S.H pack.

I've got a Maxpedition Falcon II, and it works great for this task.

Backpack vs. shoulder bag (such as the Maxpedition Jumbo Versipack that I use for a camera bag) is going to be strictly a personal choice, but I find that a backpack works better for the volume of stuff that will accompany a small child.

For my second boy, I went with a Maxpedition Pygmy Falcon. It was the perfect size for all the baby paraphernalia. The side pouches work for bottles, sippy cups, water bottle (for you). I preferred the backpack style because I was always bending over, twisting, etc. But then again I had to content with another older child as well.

I later upgraded to a Maxpedition Jumbo Versipack, but when I found that I couldn't carry my tablet in it I ditched it for a 5.11 Messenger bag. That is my current EDC. I can carry all my manly needs in it and still have room for the hand sanitizer, wipes and meds for my oldest boy.

My wifes best friend bought me a <span style="font-weight: bold">Diaper dude</span> diaper bag in old school camo. So far it's held up really well and is well thought out. There is also a pouch on the side of the bad that sits against the body that has worked really well for CC. Just a heads up.

Go with a shoulder over a backpack. I tried the backpack thing for a while then after you realize how often you need to get into the bag you realize a shoulder one is easier for everyday use. Your Brother is doing the right thing by raising his child.

The diaper bag stage goes by fast enough. Just use the free bag you get from the Pediatrician. Save the cash for the diapers - that's what is really expensive.

Tac Ops short bag with the shoulder straps for carry. Plenty of room and guaranteed front of the line wherever you go. The mat is a great changing pad.

As a father of 2 in my opinion the best diaper bag for a man is the single strap black messenger style bag that they usually give you at the hospital when you are discharged.

The bag is all black and very easy to carry and useful for a guy. I always had a hard time carting around my daughter's huge pink diaper bag so I started using the free one from the hospital.

I don't think anyone here would care if he had a bright pink one, he is one hell of a guy. It ain't easy taking on his task and he is more man than most. Good luck to him and hats off.

Thanks so much for all the insight and replies.

I know it is going to be tough for him at age 19 to do this, but my family will be there the whole way with nothing but support.

I already planned on sending a weekly diaper gram. I live so far away so I have to help any way I can, even if it is just money.

Maxpedition Jumbo Versipack works great. I know this from personal experience. Even called it my "Tactical Diaper Bag." Formula, bottles, diapers, wipes, change of clothes and a pistol all fit well.

And good on your brother for stepping up and taking responsibility.

I'm diggin' the tool bag idea, as it looks to do a better job of keeping things organized than my wife's "let's through everything into the main compartment of a backpack" approach

For my diaper bag I use a Maxpedition Sitka. It has enough room for all the basic supplies, an outide bottle holder and I added a pager holder on the main belt for pacifiers. i put a lot of thought into it and it works really well. My daughter is 3 and I still use it.

My diaper bag is on my wife's arm.... I let her carry that stuff. If I need something I ask for it. If its me and kiddo we put that stuff in our pockets!


I don't need another bag to worry about!

Don't remember what brand it is, but wife and I use a bag with a huge biohazard symbol on it. Youngest son is finally starting potty training so finally soon the house won't be reeking of diapers and baby powder when I get home from work. I'm looking forward to it!
