Building a reloading table

Howdy,

I'm about to build a reloading table so I can dive into this hobby.

So what should I do/avoid when making the table?

I come here to ask because I was given a coffee table from my old job. First I lengthened the legs, then I stripped it, sanded it, stained it, refinished it and was all excited to get my press bolted to it. But realized the rounded edges and baseboard of the table prevents a press from being attached.

So instead of bolting a 2"x6" to the top of it and mounting the press to that, I figured I would just start over. The original table is just to nice for me to destroy it (unless ya'll can convince me otherwise.)

Tips, tricks, full blue prints would be greatly appreciated,
Thanks!

Google NRMA reloading table. Will give blue prints
mines not finished but got me in the game.

72"x34" 42" high.

I'm 6'1" so adjust for your height.

Re: Building a reloading table

Its simple, solid as a rock, great base to customize to your liking and did I say simple .

Good luck in whatever you choose

Re: Building a reloading table

Here is mine 3/4" plywood doubled for the top, built on 2x4's. You cant get it to heavy, or so much space.

Re: Building a reloading table

Wow, those are both impressive!

Are ya'll attaching the presses with bolts or massive bolt/screw type of things?

Re: Building a reloading table

Its not hard. My dad come up one day, and he helped build mine in about a day. Thats wireing and all. I did use some 4x4 salt treated stuff for legs, just to make it heavy. The bench where the press is mounted is reinforced for the presses, but the other two are just plywood and 2x4's. Its kinda hard to see, but my daughter love's to draw on it! Just have fun doing it!

Re: Building a reloading table

The presses will have pre-drilled holes. I used the biggest bolts that would fit though the press and long enough to go though the plywood and 2x4's.

Re: Building a reloading table

Nothing wrong with yours at all Dereck! Yours looks just like my first one. I bought and moved to a new house and a corner in the basement made the perfect place as you can see.

Re: Building a reloading table

Don't know where you are in TX. but I picked up a almost new 100lb.+ drafting table from the U. N. TX. surplus barn in Denton for all of 10$. There were probably 30 or so to choose from.

Re: Building a reloading table

I bought these legs for $100 shipped, I see they're $150 now, but still worth it: http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0000DD362/ref=mp_s_a_1?qid=1339295753&sr=8-1

Then you just need a sheet if 3/4" plywood for the lower shelf, and a sheet for the top...the veneer oak is best for the top. Add a few 2x4s and the engineered brackets to construct a frame under the benchtop and your all set.

Mine is rock-fucking-solid, and took one evening to erect. Plus, it looks nice/finished, and is easily disassembled if you need to move. I'm into mine for ~$225 all up, and I even used the oak plywood top and bottom. Couldn't be happier - except I could really use another.

Re: Building a reloading table

Thanks it actually turned out better then i had expected. Will be adding as I go.

As for mounting the press like what was said above the biggest bolts that will fit in the mounting holes/slots in your press. I think mine are 3/8 not 100% sure

Definitely do a little reinforcing around where the press mounts to the table.

When I started out reloading, I built a bench that was 1.5" thick.

But after the maturation of 13 years of reloading, I built a free standing bench with some heft that was 7" thick.

I really like this bench you've linked. Methinks I may just go with this and assemble the damn thing instead of building it myself. For $160, that's worth it to me.

Re: Building a reloading table

It really is a nice bench. SOLID!!! Its not that big, but like I said if your going to reload every now and then the bench is awesome! The drawers are very very nice.. Store all your little nick nacks in there. Plus there is a shelf on the bottom of the table, very handy to store powder, brass etc.. I mounted mine to the wall. I took a pice of 2x4 by the length of the bench. I mounted the 2x4 to the bench (2 screws on each end), placed the bench against the wall, and screwed the 2x4 to the studs in the wall. ROCK ROCK SOLID!!! Look around for a coupon and you will get the table for alot cheaper. I think I paid around $100 for mine

It's a bit messy, lol Ok a lot messy. It's only temporary until I get my house built this year. I'm going to build a room dedicated to reloading and tinkering.
