Anyone able to comment and/or compare service life and noise reduction of the SAS Ti Arbitor and the SRT Ti Shadow XL. Both when shot with 30 cal from a bolt gun.

I have heard the SRT and I was suprised at how quiet it was. It did not seem to have a lot of 1st round crack either. This shooting was all done outside and not under any roof or off a concrete pad.

I have damaged hearing and I always wear double hearing protection to help, foam plugs and earmuffs. I did not have to wear ear protection when the SRT was fired; I was about 4 feet away and to the right.

At my range we have a tin roof covering the firing line and concrete the whole lengh of the line. I understand that this will most likely increase sound. So my frame of reference may not be the good. It seems that the guys that are shooting suppressed at the range have loud suppressors, I do still have to wear some hearing protection.

I have not heard an SAS Ti Arbitor

Re: SAS Ti Arbitor or SRT Ti Shadow XL

Everyone's hearing is different, but I don't need ear pro. I know people that still use plugs though, but that may be due to where they're shooting, or if the sound is being held down on them by the surroundings.

Re: SAS Ti Arbitor or SRT Ti Shadow XL

hearing damage can occur at 90ish Db. the more Db, the less time needed to damage hearing. no gun is 'hearing safe' even suppressed.

Re: SAS Ti Arbitor or SRT Ti Shadow XL

ask "Skinney" he's big into suppressor and has used many different types and can give you a strait up answer. I should have my .30 cal XL TI Shadow anyday now. He seems to think their one of the quieter cans he's shot.

I was also impressed with the service life of the SRT as represented to me by Doug, as well as the built in ability to take suppressor apart should it need to be serviced.

Re: SAS Ti Arbitor or SRT Ti Shadow XL

Turtlesniper has an SRT Shadow XL Ti, and I have an SAS Arbiter Ti. We can't tell a difference in the sound when they're both on the line together.

That's were I was last Saturday at Turtlesniper's. He was nice enough to let me come up and check out his rifle. I wanted to buy on like it but not without putting my hands on one to see how it fit. Well it fit great and my chassis is on the way to me.

That is also where I observed and heard the sound of his rifle with the SRT Shadow XL Ti

Re: SAS Ti Arbitor or SRT Ti Shadow XL

I have a Shadow XL TI, shot it for the first time and threw all my hearing protection in the trash. I've heard mice sneeze louder than that thing.

Re: SAS Ti Arbitor or SRT Ti Shadow XL

Skinny can you compare an SRT XL Ti to an SS SRT?

I think I want to get a Ti can and I currently have a SS Mag Shadow.

Also, for anyone - what is a street price for an XL Ti?

TIA

Good luck

Sure can,
I've shot the SRT Shadow XL Ti side by side with the Shadow XL (stainless model)
I prefer the Ti, same baffle system, both sound amazing not much difference, I noticed a little tone between the two, the XL Ti does have a somewhat heavy price tag on it, retailing @ 1245.00, but its one of the best cans I've ever used.

Re: SAS Ti Arbitor or SRT Ti Shadow XL

You should also consider POI shift and repeatability when you purchase a suppressor, not just DB reduction. That is where the SAS really shines. Plus, the retail is much lower than $1245. With the NUMEROUS satisfied customers all over the world it would make it a no brainer to me.
This in not a ding towards the other two cans, but what can they offer that the SAS Arbiter does'nt at a lower price?? I have no experiance with the other two but hear alot about the TBAC and would love to do some side by side comparisons as TBAC and SAS seems to be the two most raved about on the forums.....

Re: SAS Ti Arbitor or SRT Ti Shadow XL

I have an SRT Mag Shadow with an inconnel blast baffle now. It is heavy, and I would guess a couple / few more onces heavier now than when new. However POA/POI shift has historically been 0.1 MIL straight down.

In reading, I am having a hard time figuring out what grade of TI SAS and TBAC use. I know what Doug is using. I am also not really clear as to what materials are used in the baffle stacks of TBAC and SAS. I will be using a direct connection and therefore not interested in a brake.

Good luck

Re: SAS Ti Arbitor or SRT Ti Shadow XL

I need to nut up and get my hands on a SAS so I can compare... I have the 30-BA and a couple Shadow XL Ti's... Mo_Zam_Beek, you cant go wrong with either, I use both in the field and both are what you call, performers.

Re: SAS Ti Arbitor or SRT Ti Shadow XL

the srt supressor that I heard did not have a first round pop.
it could also disassembled by the manufacturer should it need to be serviced. it appears that there is a place for a special tool to attach to the front to take the suppressor apart. I believe the owner who makes srt suppressors has been in business for a long time and that is important to me

I have never ever noticed a FRP with ANY SAS can I have shot or heard and its been ALOT. As for taking one apart is complete marketing. YOU DON'T TAKE THEM APART or CLEAN THEM! No matter which brand you buy! "Dirty" cans actually perform BETTER than a brand new one.
Thunderbeast and SAS have been in business along time now as well. I think SAS has been doing them full time now since like 03' or so.
I hope to hear about your field test when you get it. Modern suppressors are great and are finally catching on across the country.

Re: SAS Ti Arbitor or SRT Ti Shadow XL

no first round pop, with our TBAC 30-BA's or the SRT's Shadow XL Ti's.

Re: SAS Ti Arbitor or SRT Ti Shadow XL

ron heard my srt xl ti . it has an iconel blast

its quiet
has a huge freebore to deter baffle strikes
always repeatable never more than .1 mil in zero shift

but i like the fact that its that quiet with so much freebore i would like to see how much quieter it would be if it had its holes closed down to where most suppressors have to just to keep the noise down

Which manufacturer makes one and recommends it be taken apart for cleaning. I missed that thread or post. I know Doug at SRT never told me his suppressors needed to taken apart to clean.

My thinking is a suppressor has a finite life just like a barrel. So if you have a suppressor and use it alot it will eventualy need to be serviced may after 12K rounds in a 308 maybe, I don't know. So then if the manufacturer has a special tool to unscrew say the front to access the internals it will not be that big of a deal to replace worn out baffles.
