So i'm searching and searching for a high quality bipod that is user friendly, durable and can swivel and tilt

and I'm finding nothing !!!

well, not nothing, there are some models out there like GG&G, blackhawk presicion, B&T and Versapod. but thel all seem so clunky cumbersome when not in use. Tango DOwn not so much but doesn't offer the pan and leg extension method doesn't appeal to me.

Am I wrong, or do all you guy like me wish there were a much better product on the market?

which bipod do you use and why? is there something about you dislike?

thanks

Re: best bipod choice? frustrated :(

I used to use the Harris bipod but have switched to the B&T. I use the B&T due to the sold construction, flexibility, and versatility of the unit. It allows to a good range of motion on tilt and pan and is simple to use. What is your intended use is my question. If it is going to be used on a square range then any of these will work. If you are deploying it in a competition/law enforcement/ military application then that would narrow it down.

my intent is to help make up my mind on what to buy, or to perhaps learn of a great bipod that I hand't heard about.

Re: best bipod choice? frustrated :(

I've used Harris, and I just bought an Atlas, both work well, but the Atlas is just more versatile... and expensive.

Re: best bipod choice? frustrated :(

I've had an Atlas V7 for a few years now and it has served me very well, bouncing back & forth between a few sticks. Sent it in two weeks ago for an upgrade to V8.1 hardware, and it came back lookin' & functioning brandy new!

In short, buy an Atlas. You'll have it a very long time...

Re: best bipod choice? frustrated :(

I use the harris, and for what i do works perfect, how ever i am thinking about upgrading to the Atlas because i am wanting to start shooting some competetion if i can ever get off work

Re: best bipod choice? frustrated :(

There are plenty of Harris bipods in competitions. Don't let that stop you.

Re: best bipod choice? frustrated :(

I have both of the Altas and harris. I do prefer the Harris over the Altas. I don't like the legs on the Altas. You have to lower each leg seperately. The harris is a much faster bipod. The AI bipods were nice but didn't have a lock on the tension. Now you can alter them to lock. Those were fast and easy. My 2 cents

Re: best bipod choice? frustrated :(

I just took delivery on a bipod from Long Range Accuracy. I was so impressed, I ordered two more. The build quality and features make this bipod worth every penny. Dave is great to deal with as well.

If you don't like it, I will buy it from you!

Re: best bipod choice? frustrated :(

I like the Harris for ease of use and quick deployment hunting wise I believe this is the way to go. When you want a wide range of motion the atlas is the way to go.

Re: best bipod choice? frustrated :(

I own a Harris and a Atlas. The Atlas is more versatile. Both are great for range day although I prefer the Atlas feet better. The Harris looks better for pictures haha...

Re: best bipod choice? frustrated :(

GG&G has to be the best bipod I've ever used. Lightweight, sturdy, and very ergonomic. Used on on a Fulton LAR308 with no problems whatsoever. Loved the fact that it really didn't add too much weight shooting offhand.

Just looked it up; does look like a quality build but not in my price range. I could 3 B&T bipods on my guns for just one of those. If I were running a big machine I might go for it, but my FNAR does'nt demand that heavy duty of a product

I've been leaning toward a B&T or a GG&G though the GG&G is also a bit more that I really wanted to spend.

K2, I emailed him 3 times, call him and left messages many times the past couple of months but got no reply so far. Glad to hear he's still in business. I need his bipods! How long is the wait time for you? Which style did you get? Thx.

Re: best bipod choice? frustrated :(

I see the website for the Long Range Bipod, but don't see much there describing his bipods. What so great about them over say the atlas which looks similar (except for the yoke style attachment - can't really see it that well)?

I am in the market and was going to go with the atlas also...

Re: best bipod choice? frustrated :(

@ Ivan - no doubt the LRA's are an investment and trust me - I get it. Wasn't sure whether to recommend it to you based on your OP, but thought I would post my experience, anyway. As above, the build quality and design make it worth every penny, IMO.

@ YOL - I have emailed Dave on a number of occasions and talked to him on the phone a few times. Great guy, BTW. I have never had any trouble reaching him right away. But.....keep in mind this is a side business for him and he is a one man operation. I was able to get my bipod in about 5 days, but I caught him at an opportune time. He had just received a shipment of fresh parts! I say email him again...it's possible your original could have wound up in a spam folder...happens to me a lot. It probably can't hurt to mention you are from the Hide in your correspondence.

I got the F-class with the longer legs for my first one.

@ Hereo...full disclosure...I have 6 Atlas's, so you can color me a huge fan.

The two are tough to compare, because they really are built/designed for different uses. The Atlas is great for my light-weight rifles, the LRA is built to provide great stability for the big boys. Having said that, I just ordered an LRA for one of my 308's. For this rifle, every bit of robustness was paramount for me.

The LRA derives it's stability by placing the CG of the rifle below the pivot point (see the middle plate), spreading the legs a bit and thru exceptional build quality. While my LRA does have a much wider footprint than other pods, it is incredibly lightweight and not really any heavier than any other I own. I really appreciate the design genius behind both the Atlas and LRA, but much prefer the cant adjustment on the LRA.

I would put it this way, if I were outfitting a .223 for tactical use and needed a "quiet" profile, I would go with the Atlas. If I'm building a 338 for long range precision, then LRA is the way to go. If you are in the middle, this is where you have a bit of a dilema. :). It really comes down to profile and cost vs stability and robustness.

Other notes...the LRA is a modular design and you can swap plates and parts between models. The cant release is adjustable and placed to the rear for easy access. The leg releases are spring loaded buttons which is a nice feature. (spring is not exposed to snagging, btw). You can run over it with a panzer and the panzer would lose. Did I mention build quality?

I hope this helps, and I'm happy to answer any more questions you may have. PM is fine too as I do not wish to hijack Ivan's thread from him.

Re: best bipod choice? frustrated :(

I have 2 rifles I want to put bipods on. At this point I think I am going to buy just one midrange priced bipod and try it out on both rifles, then decide if I need to step it up when buying the 2nd one.

Re: best bipod choice? frustrated :(

My name is Shane and I work for KFS Industries. We manufacture the Versa-Pod bipods and also Kensight Gun Sights. You say the bipods seem "Clunky" and "Cumbersome" when not in use. This is one of the features that sets the Versa-pods apart from the rest of your choices. Our Bipods can be removed from your weapon with a simple push of our rocker-type "Quick-Mount" button. The Bipod can be stored/carried in your pack, removed from your weapon in your safe, and only mounted when needed.

I recommend any of the "50 Series" bipods. They include the friction controls for pan and tilt and are a very solid mount. Our bipods also include a Lifetime Warranty.

The "Classic Series" are entry level Versa-Pod bipods, and the one most are talking about on this forum. These bipods are still available for the budget minded sportsman. Versa-Pod has come a long way since the introductory Classic Series.

If you have questions on our available adapters, or need suggestions for your shooting styles email me at: [email protected] and I will see if I can help!

Re: best bipod choice? frustrated :(

If you really want to know, check my post on this same topic. A lot of good guys posted some great stuff. I ended up going with Atlas, as im sure every guy that owns one knew i eventually would.

Re: best bipod choice? frustrated :(

@K2, thanks for the details info on the LRA. In fact, I am shopping for my .338 LM build, so robustness is a good thing in my book. I have the AICS chassis already at my smith. Have you run (do they make - or does it make sense) one of the LRA's using a spigot? From what I have heard (but not yet tried), it seems to make sense to move the bipod as far forward as you can to get the most stability. I think this is the reason AI went with a spigot connector for the bipod?

Would the LRA even work like this?

Re: best bipod choice? frustrated :(

I just ordered an LRA SC-II myself.. Ive been on this great quest for the perfect bipod myself for awhile, have Atlas, Versapod, GGG, Harris, etc.. so far Atlas/GGG is a toss up for my favorite but Im hoping the LRA finally satisfies me..

Re: best bipod choice? frustrated :(

I've used both, for me the Atlas was easier to load up. However that is also probably my poor technique.

I would also say that the atlas has more flexibility in the field.

I also love my Harris BRMS with pod loc. Can shoot very accurately off it.

Re: best bipod choice? frustrated :(

Just changing it up a little cause I haven't heard it mentioned. Have you seen/used the Sako bipod? Its pricey but a nice design nonetheless. I had the opportunity to use it last weekend and it auto locks the cant when you load it then it goes back to adjustable just by unloading it. It was extremely responsive and locked up very solid.

Re: best bipod choice? frustrated :(

After researching and considering upgrading from the original bipod I chose to purchase a harris "s" bipod. The reason being because the feet are rubber and don't scratch the paint off vehicles when spotlighting. The s lock allows me to level the bubble and lock it into position then fire.

I'm not a fan off the cheapest accessories as they usually are not as well made as the more expensive brands. Harris from my point of view (and application needs) is the exception to the rule.

+1

I've got 2 of them and I couldn't be happier.

Re: best bipod choice? frustrated :(

I think the Atlas is arguably the highest quality bipod out there, with the price to show it. Tons of people love their Harris. Having used both, I find the Atlas far easier to load, and more flexible depending on intended uses. For bench rest only, you can't go wrong with whatever you choose. Hope this helps...
