i am new to the can world, but am interested in .22lr suppressors. i have friends that have spector and sparrow cans (very nice, BTW)! any other suggestions for high quality .22 cans???

Re: best .22 suppressor??

Take your pic, Spectre, Sparrow, Element, etc most of the top tier cans will sound good and give great service.

There are good cans out there for less money, but many have at least one draw back. i.e. excess weight, length, lower quality materials, FRP ....

Generally, you get what you pay for.

Re: best .22 suppressor??

The Spectre is great, but too heavy on small pistol like the Walther P22 or Beretta 21, IMO.

if you want something for a small pistol only then the Gemtech Outback would be one good choice - much lighter than the Spectre.

Also check out Thunder Beast Arms - a Sponsor here.

if you want versatility but don 't mind the weight, then the Spectre is terrific - rated for FN 5.7, and all the hottest rimfire rounds such as 17 HMR.

Re: best .22 suppressor??

I have two 22L-1 and one 22S-1 from TBAC, trust me, it doesnt get any better. Unless you feel the useless need to clean your cans. I personally cant stand cleaning rimfire cans, you lose the good quiet, its a pain in the d***, and really only needs to be done at 10-20k intervals anyway. Beauty about the TBAC's is 100% Ti so just give them the "dip"

Haha, "pretty light", thats funny Zak! I think my paclite rugers are lighter with the cans on than without! They might as well not even be there.

Re: best .22 suppressor??

ADCO has our suppressors in stock in Ohio.

The things the Checkmate has going for it:
High performance
No baffle asymmetry for minimal POI shift
Modular mounting with Thread mount and QD options
Reasonable pricing
Included tools
Larger than average bore at .270" for minimized risk of baffle contact

Re: best .22 suppressor??

My Gemtech Outback II is an awesome can, very light and no FRP. "Best" is not a popular word on this forum because it's so subjective and also depends on your needs, budget and usage. As another said though for a good lightweight can the Outback is hard to beat. I know TBAC's 30 cal cans are creme of the crop, but don't know about their .22 cans or price comparison to the Outback.

Re: best .22 suppressor??

If you shoot enough to get a .22 can filled up you might want to look into getting an all stainless steel can. It can be chemically cleaned more aggressively than an aluminum can. I have completely filled up cans on multiple times and chemicals were the only way to do this on a sealed can or a can that was not wanting to come apart.

Re: best .22 suppressor??

Ordered a Suppressed Armament Systems in January. Will tell ya in a couple months how she does lol...

Re: best .22 suppressor??

I have a gen 1 element, other than the end cap backing off on some hosts, it has been a good can. If I were to do it over, I'd go with a Sparrow or TBAC...

Re: best .22 suppressor??

What about Yankee Hill's 22 can (Mite)? I played with one at a gun show and it was super light compared to the Sparrow.

Re: best .22 suppressor??

Personally like my Huntertown Arms, have both the kestrel and the guardian!

Re: best .22 suppressor??

thanks to all of you. given me a few other cans to consider for .22 prolly won't buy till this fall. just bought a tiger shark, and kinda taking it all in. although, may happen sooner if $ comes available.

Re: best .22 suppressor??

jonaddis84, i was wondering?? .22 cans that come appart 4 cleaning. u said u lose the good quiet? so, after taken apart the can is not as effective?

& u just dip ur Ti cans in good solvent (copper, powder, & carbon remover)?

looked @ TBAC .22 cans & seem very high quality.

-z </div></div>Talk to me about why you chose to go with a sealed .22 can. I shoot mostly lead round-nose bullets through my .22's, and don't feel warm and fuzzy about not being able to take a can apart to clean the inevitable buildup.

Convince me that your sealed cans are truly 'no maintenance.'

Yes, I am looking to buy a .22 can. I currently have a 7.62 can and a 9mm can, neither of which needs to be servicable because of the copper jacketed bullets.

Right now I'm leaning towards a Sparrow, but I'm not set on it yet.

Re: best .22 suppressor??

You would want to use only plated bullets with a sealed .22 can.

Re: best .22 suppressor??

Check out Liberty suppressors. The Kodiak to be exact. I just picked mine up yesterday so I haven't had a chance to run it through the paces yet. But I did shoot a few off the front porch.

Does this mean it will handle .17 Hornet (out of a bolt gun) as well? I have a 22L and 30P-1 on order and can't wait to get them.

I really like my sparrow ss. I do not notice any frp noise with it either.

Not sure if you are being sarcastic so I will assume that you are not, and will answer your question. The "tube" is the registered part. The clam shells take the abuse of the firing, and can be replaced as needed or upgraded in the future. The tube can not be replaced without another Form 4 and tax. Therefore, henceforth, and in conclusion the tax stamp is protected by the design.

I also do not normally have a FRP with my sparrow SS. I have experienced a FRP with some ammo, and there is a ton of variability in rim-fire ammo. Best ammo to date is Winchester Subsonics (grey box). I am shooting Remington Sub's right now as that is what I could find and about 1/50 are supersonic. I also get about a 1/50 failure of some other type.

Re: best .22 suppressor??

so are .22 cans that the user can take apart & clean the best way to go? i've heard that they are the best way? cans that you cant breakdown have build up of lead?? once you take a can apart and reassemble it does it suppress as well as it did when new??

I've never noticed any difference in sound between my can when clean or when dirty. I have a SS Sparrow.

Love my sparrow. I have an early can and waiting for the stainless steel upgrade now.

Re: best .22 suppressor??

Silencershop.com has a video section of .22lr suppressors. One in particular in which they fire side by side most of the top selling brands in both a rifle and pistol host.
Its a bit annoying given that its ranked by a 10yr old but good info none the less

Re: best .22 suppressor??

SilencerCO Sparrow Gen 2 is pretty damn quiet. Not the lightest but its easily serviceable and crazy how much reduction you can get on a pistol with subsonic ammo.

Re: best .22 suppressor??

I'm new to the silencer game too (I don't own one at all and I am ignorant when it comes to this, so please excuse any/all ignorance seeping from my posts)

Would it be crazy to save up and just get a 5.56 can, that way you have the best of both worlds? Only one tax stamp to worry about, multiple platforms.. Or would it not be as serviceable/quiet as a can specifically developed for the .22? I would think buy once cry once and get a 556 can that can withstand heavier pressures than a sparrow or others mentioned, but then again "buy once cry once" is easier said than done. I guess my point would be, why not look at 556 cans instead of limiting yourself to the rimfire variety?

this depends on a couple of things...

first and mainly, are you worried about weight on the 22 platform..

after that, it gets fairly easy, when I have customers that have a 22 rifle and an 223, I try to steer them to a 223/556 can that disassembles... generally the Tactical Innovations Tac16, not light, but it gives them way more flexibility than a 22 can...

but, that only works if they're not concerned w/ weight, if they will ever use it on a 22 pistol, the option is gone

Re: best .22 suppressor??

I see. Well, the OP did not specify whether it is to be used on long guns or handguns so I thought I would throw my comment out there. It never really occurred to me to think about weight of a can on a handgun. Makes sense though that is for sure.

Re: best .22 suppressor??

I have shot a few, and the Thunder Beast Arms Corp 22L-1 Was the quitest on pistols and rifles with subsonic and super sonic ammo.

Just my opinion and a few other friends of mine.

Re: best .22 suppressor??

I want to pick up a suppressor for a pistol and a rifle. So the Spectr and Sparrow might be the way to go?
I just don't want to FRP if possible.

Re: best .22 suppressor??

just a question. should a guy buy a can for a .223 that works on a .22?? or should a guy consider buying a can for a .22 & also a .223 can? considering that $ is not the limiting factor??

As mentioned above, it depends how much weight you want hanging off the end of your .22

I'd go with a dedicated .22 can like the Sparrow or TBAC, then get a .30cal can to use on my .223, 6.8 and .308.
My .22 can and 30p-1 has all of my firearms covered.

Yup, check out TBAC for a .22 can also.

Re: best .22 suppressor??

A-TEC Silencers
Norwegian made -modular supressors. Easy to clean -chamber by chamber, lengthten or shorten +/- modules. LIGHT...SMALL and quiet. In Norway silencers are common. Shoot very well, light yet almost no recoil.

I´ve heard a couple... .22 6.5mm .308. 9mm. Bunker Precision have some custom ones and modified A´s. Those will be hard to find outside Norway though. Finest silencers available; custom/purpose built, looks weight etc.

Re: best .22 suppressor??

I have a Sparrow, Element, sound tec and Pilot. The Pilot and sound tec are old and sealed but do the job. I can't hear the difference between the Sparrow and Element, they are just too close for my ears. You can't go wrong with most of the .22 cans out there.

Re: best .22 suppressor??

+1 for the SWR Spectre. I clean mine every 1000-2000 rounds and it comes apart easy. Clean the baffles by soaking them in 1/2 hydrogen peroxide and 1/2 Vinegar. Need to treat the solution as a hazardous liquid but cleans the baffles up like new. My host pistol is a Ruger 22/45 and it shoots great but gets dirty fast. Pain in the rear to clean too but started with a Sig Mosquito and didn'tlike it very well.
I don't mind the weight of the Spectre like some do but look at as many as you can and if you have to spend a few dollars more get what you want cuz the worst part is the paper work and tax stamp.

Re: best .22 suppressor??

I hear the SWR Spectre-II is better than the original Spectre but I'd buy my original Spectre's all over again if anything happened to them.

Re: best .22 suppressor??

It's between the kodiak TL and the spectre 2. Honestly, in my experience, SWR doesn't have the best turnaround time for ANYTHING. I ordered a shirt 4 months ago, no luck. Ordered the spectre 2 in Feburary and it just got to the dealer within the last week. For what I've seen though, they are REALLY easy to take apart and have a great design with their snap apart baffle system that protects the outer tube. The liberty kodiak TL is also a great combination between customer service and quality of a can. They aren't as easy to take apart as the spectre 2, but still easy with a monocore baffle. I think the spectre 2 and liberty kodiak TL are tied for the best considering quiteness and quality, spectre 2 for easily taken apart, liberty for customer service and turnaround.
