Rem 700 trigger adjustments

The two things I needed to do with my 700 first were get a new stock and replace/fix the trigger.

This trigger is very heavy and the only good thing I can say about it is it has a crisp break.

Skirting the topic of trigger adjustment, people have referred me to this article: http://www.snipercountry.com/Articles/RemingtonTriggers.asp
which describes in detail the 'true' way to adjust your Xmark Trigger.

The question I'm bringing to you all is if anyone has done this, what sort of success or failure has come from it?

And if no one likes this method or has reason to dislike it, should I just say screw it and buy an aftermarket trigger? What would be a fairly inexpensive option for that?

Thanks all

Re: Rem 700 trigger adjustments

i didnt feel like screwing around with the xmark (im not gunsmith)

so i went with a timney 517 = $118

Re: Rem 700 trigger adjustments

If it's an X-Mark trigger, make sure you don't adjust it below I think 3 #s or else it'll creep like hell and the break won't be clean at all. If you're fine with >3 pounds of trigger pull (and some guys are), then just leave it on there. Personally, on my 700, since I'm having no issues with my X-Mark Pro as of yet, it's staying on there.

Edit: If it's not the X-Mark Pro and doesn't have an external adjustment screw and you don't want to mess with adjusting it, replace it. I wouldn't go gumming around in your trigger setup unless you know what you're doing.

If you want to adjust lower than 3 pounds though, grab a new trigger. Timney and Jewell are always well-recommended around here. If I were going to pick one myself, I would grab a Timney, mostly because I'm a cheap sonofabitch and the Timney should do what I want for around $100.

Re: Rem 700 trigger adjustments

I prefer a 2.5 lb pull. Tried to adjust the X-mark, and as others have stated, anything below 3 turns it into a piece of junk. Timney is a good drop in solution...

Re: Rem 700 trigger adjustments

My advice. Buy a timney sell the x-mark, thats what i did for my sps and i put it in a r-5 stock. It's basicaly a cut down PSS.

Re: Rem 700 trigger adjustments

How are the timney triggers installed? Would I have to send it to a gunsmith?

Re: Rem 700 trigger adjustments

Nope. I didn't, took me about an hour, lost a spring in the carpet though and had to search for it. I can't remember the process it was about a year ago. should be plenty of info on the interweb and videos.

extremely easy!

Re: Rem 700 trigger adjustments

Easy as can be, just a couple of taps with a punch and you are good to go. Timney's come with little spacers to keep all in place as you drift in the pins.

Re: Rem 700 trigger adjustments

One more question, will I have to drill a little bit off of the inside of my AICS to accommodate the wider trigger on a Timney?

Re: Rem 700 trigger adjustments

Not with the one you bought

Haha that is the ideal answer! Thanks again
