Rifle Scopes How are the Vortex holding up on 50's?

I picked up a Safety Harbor mag fed 50 and am going to need to put an optic on it.

I'm leaning toward the Vortex Viper PST 4-16x50. It claims to be shock proof and I've heard good things about them.

    Anyone using this?

I'm not trying to win any matches (obviously based on the gun) and I'm not worried about having something I could stake my life on in the Middle East.

Just looking for a scope that should hold up to a 50 so I can shoot stuff at 300-800 yards.

    Thoughts?

    Sigh. I believe it is.

Is that a unique snowflake or do these things have a reputation for questionable safety?

with a 50, get the best scope you can afford, I like vortex pst, i think it will work, but on larger caliber rifles, i usually do a nightforce or a razor

I agree with Jay. I dont know if it is for the same reasons or not. Bolt action 50's actually are not as hard on scopes as you might think(dont get me wrong, they are not necessarily easy on them either) . Anyhow, the reason I agree with Jay is that you will inevitably want the much larger amount of travel that something like our Razor offers to be able to shoot those extended ranges.

There is not as much shock on most 50 calibers as there is on several magnum hunting rifles. I have used bushnell elites on 2 different 50's with great success. Barrett even packages some of their single shots with the cheaper Bushnell 3200. The Vortex will be fine and the turrets are much better on those than on the bushnells.

The issue with scopes on a .50 BMG rifle is not the perceived recoil, but rather the 21 G reversal of recoil due to the muzzle brake. The phenomenon is the same with piston action air guns. It slams the scope forward. So the scope must be designed to withstand recoil in both the rearward and forward directions. Many quality scopes have failed due to this phenomenon. Scopes that have their optical elements glued and/or solidly located in the tube in general hold up well. Reticles can also come loose if not designed for this.

Could you post a list of the scopes that have these specs and/or capabilities?
