Gunsmithing Best sprayer for Cerakote

Re: Best sprayer for Cerakote

Iwata LPH-80 or Sata Mini-Jet.....by far and long the LPH-80 seems to lay down the best spray for me.

We use the Iwata as well. Hands down works great

Re: Best sprayer for Cerakote

What pressure are you all running on the tank during spraying?

Re: Best sprayer for Cerakote

Sprayers are like any other tool. What I mean is that there are many brands that will do a great job. There are some very hi end sprayers/guns that do so much more than we need for applying Cerakote that makes them very expensive. You do not need a sprayer that cost $500.00 used for doing custom paint jobs on show cars. Not saying in anyway that if you want the best and have the money to spend on it, that you shouldn't because I say so either. Just trying to say that I went through many guns before I found that the Home Depot Husky sprayer works great for Cerakote. The price is very reasonable at a little over $100.00. Comes with a large and small pot, extra needles, and set of cleaning tools. Plus a great guarantee. Hope this helps.

Re: Best sprayer for Cerakote

Oh yeah, I run 20 PSI out of my Quincy air compressor. 20 PSI while I hold down the trigger. Now there is an area I didn't hold back while spending money, the air compressor. It's a Quincy, 5 HP, 1700 RPM, two stage pump, with an 80 gallon tank. I run my blaster for as long as I want at 100 PSI, and it never drops below 120 PSI at the regulator.

Re: Best sprayer for Cerakote

I love my iwata and it sprays far better than any little gun i have used. Doesnt seem to get bogged down with thicker paint. I run 30 psi from the compressor, 25 at the gun..and regulate it to what i want by using the adjustment at the bottom. I feel that the psi needed changes depends on the pattern size i use.

Re: Best sprayer for Cerakote

As far as gallon volume for a compressor that is not as big of an issue as CFM and constant pressure without drop. Also a good particulate filter and dryer are a must. Doesn't really matter how good the gun works if you don't have clean dry air. STR great choice in compressor. A Quince is something you buy once and it lasts a lifetime.

Re: Best sprayer for Cerakote

I got a top feed touchup gun at Lowe's(about 40 bucks if I remember right). Works like it was meant for Ceracote. 20 to 25 psi through the regulator and separator.

Yes sir. I love it. I waited 18 years for my Nuair to go bad. It too was a great 2 stage compressor, but I wanted the Quincy for the last 5 years.

20 to 25 psi can be had with any compressor though. Like already said, a good moisture trap, and clean gun are extremely important too. Plus a little practice helps.

Re: Best sprayer for Cerakote

All great ideas and suggestions I love the iwata but use a cheaper version for mass coating u will find an iwata is so smooth and when its set its flawless remember to clean though

Re: Best sprayer for Cerakote

I use a Badger 350 air brush ~ I have a cheap Harbor Freight air brush that works fine but the Badger is easier to use and clean.
I do have a HVLP larger sprayer but I haven't needed it yet as the air brush works fine.
Any compressor will do as it doesn't need much to feed an air brush ~ I have an old pancake small compressor (2 gal 1.5 HP) that is still kickin'.
Just make sure you have an in-line moisture filter.

Re: Best sprayer for Cerakote

I use a Iwata with a 1.3 tip, works great for me. I've done cerakote with it, but something along the lines of an LPH-80, or a Sata with a .8 or 1.0 would be better options for cerakote. Pressure varies for me depending on the color spraying, what i'm spraying, ect.. Too many variables to really list what setting you should use. I've done so many at this point that I go by feel more than set settings on the gun.

I have a 20gallon compressor that's in the air conditioning inside, and then runs through 150' of hose to the paint booth. Water separator is in the booth before the gun. I have zero water issues in the line, even in the winter when the hot compressor air gets super chilled in the hose that's outside in the cold air.
