Thinking of getting my Speedmaster setup to accomodate a suppressor. Has anyone done this? If so, Id like to hear some details.

I know that the sights are tall enough, but the front will have to move back atleast 1/4 inch for threading. I am also aware that the suppressor will have to be removed in order to reload, using the suppressors that I already own.

Anything else to look forward to? This is one of my all time favorite rifles and will fire long rifle, long, and shorts. Id love to get a suppressor on it, if it will make a quiet host.

Below is a mock up pic. with my prodigy

i have the same rifle and love it!!!

i was thinking about doing the same thing but never thought of the suppressor getting in the way of the rod.

damn...

probably gonna give some purist at the range a heart attack but i think its a cool idea.

Re: Suppressed Remington 552 speedmaster

I had the front site pushed back on my pencil barrel 10/22, I don't see any reason you could not do the same on the remy. On that remy, I believe the front site it held on by screws though, so that would be a drill/tap job.

Anyway, longs and shorts would be super quite, even more so if you held the action closed.

Re: Suppressed Remington 552 speedmaster

I saw this thread a week ago, but didn't realize how current it was. I actually just sent mine off to get threaded, and I would be more than happy to report back how it performs. It appears your front sight is closer to the muzzle than mine, because I had plenty of room to thread with no changes - one of the reasons I picked it as a host.

I think it's a cool idea. Next on my list to thread is my beater-grade Win Model 63... thankfully that one loads from the tube in the butt-stock.

Go for it, let's hear how it works. You're not ruining a classic/collectible that's worth a bunch of cash so if you want it then why not?

I reblued the threads and it turned out great. Sure does look weird having a can on a tube rifle. It looks even more weird with a AR15 flash hider on it to protect the threads, haha. I like it though, light, reliable, and 20rd magazine. I was tempted to redo the furniture, but I had to convince myself not to mess with it as I plan on enjoying this gun. Oh, and you can remove the mag tube with the suppressor on, and the iron sights clear the can - easiest conversion I've ever done.

Re: Suppressed Remington 552 speedmaster

As far as performance I've only shot about 10 .22 shorts through it. Which chrono'd an average of 1040fps (high velocity stuff) which is perfect for my 600ft elevation - right on the edge of subsonic, 20 round magazine in a tube rifle. It functioned just fine - it does throw the brass even harder than factory, and it does have quite a bit of fire/sparks on ejection. My guess is the spring is set up for the weakest of the 3 rounds so it probably ejects a lot sooner than most blowback rifles.

Re: Suppressed Remington 552 speedmaster

Very nice. Mine is a newer model and has a very different front sight. I also think that mine may have a shorter barrel, which will put the loading tube much closer to the suppressor.

So, how does it sound?

Re: Suppressed Remington 552 speedmaster

It's real quiet. One of the best things is since it has a reciprocating charging handle on the left side, you can place your thumb over it and keep the action from cycling for super quiet mode.
