Hello everybody, my parts orders finally came in for my latest project.
she went a lil, something like this......

1953 Hungarian M44

Trigger job as smooth as my 22lr's
Leapers UTG scout scope base
Medium profile 1" weaver scope rings
Ncstar 2-7x32 ler scout scope
Leapers UTG swivel mounted bipod
Leapers UAG muzzle brake/compensator
Rothco recoil pad
Realtree 9rd shell holder/cheek rest
And of course a sling

All on the original unmolested stock, other than 1 swivel stud.

I would love to add a 10 round mag & maybe a swivel mount pistol grip as a finishing touch (optional)

This is the tightest fitting stock to receiver i have seen in a long time. The hungarians done a sweet job cutting the stock out. Over time the hardwood has shrunk and got even tighter.

For now she's complete. I will be sending the bolt handle in for a bent handle conversion. That'll happen soon enough.

The build total thus far is $210, not to shabby mesa thinks...............
Projected cost with bolt conversion, 10 rd mag & pistol grip is $330

I borrowed the scope & 1 piece rings from my 91/30 so i could get pics of my pjoject. The scope & rings are back at home on my 91/30.

I will be installing a set of med profile rings & moving the scope foreword. Low profile rings are too low for this scope. The scope tube sits tight enough on the rail, that i cannot adjust the magnification, Or put the lens caps on.

I was also going to do a bolt conversion. The muzzle brake is fixed, and not held on by screws. It has a pile o' rounds thru it w/o any issues. Even though the scope is this far back, its crystal clear, but it is moving foreword.

Alright, now were getting somewhere !. I just got a new set of rings on this, along with my other ncstar 2-7x32 scope. she has come down considerably in height. I also got the scope moved as far foreword as she'll go.

now shes in the ballpark for my laser bore sight. i can adjust the magnification, & there is enough room between the rear of the rail & scope to slide a piece of paper between them.

if a clearance issue arises, i'll buzz a notch off the back of the rail, with my 6" hot saw & Emory cloth smooth. looks like a bolt conversion isn't a must right away, atleast for a bit.

Feels like your M44 has seen better days, when it was young and free from oppression. I've converted to MN purist after seeing these pictures. Never thought it could be possible, but sh*t happens...

What's my buddy Gandog at G&G MN forum saying about your modification? Is he trying to ban you from posting or he simply gave up?

Comparing crowd at G&G MN forum and SH members, I think SH members are more sensative folks and may not really face THIS kind of stuff any longer...

Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha hi kortik. To be honest, he only asked about the brake, cause he couldn't find a net site for it. I really don't understand your reasoning. This was done w/o being bubba'd, or permanent mods to the stock or barrel. There's only 1 small sling stud installed on the stock.

This can be converted back to stock in 2 min flat. Isn't it kinda hard to be a purista' with the 3 bull mosins you got ?. Granted i like them but that's; what this site is for right ???.
I have this & a 91/30 like it. I also have a hex 91/30 & a 91/59 that are still all stock.

As I said, I was NOT a purist until I saw your M44...

I do not think anybody who tries to make MN shoot better should be concerned if it can be converted back to original configuration or not. Personally, I'm not concerned. If MN is rare and collectible, it should be kept in original condition anyway, but if not, it's just a project rifle and anything goes to reach specific objective.

That's kool bro, its all good. My reasoning for this build is fairly simple.
I already have a sniper styled 91/30 like this, & i am not chopping up my hex 91/30, it's immaculate. If i done this to my 91/59, i would be condemned to hell.

Everyone says the carbines make better sniper style rifles than 91/30's, & are more accurate cause they're the "correct" barrel length. I chose this because it could be done without any major mods.

The receiver fits in the stock so tightly, i couldn't possibly improve it by bedding it further. It also has spring tension barrel bands, that are extremely tight. It's also got a trigger as smooth as my comp 22lr. All it really needed was a scout scope, that has the correct rings now, bipod, compensator and recoil pad.

Kind of a no brainer really
I am not tacticool, i am ol' skool. I just wanted to keep it simple & have a lil' fun with it.

I got 1 for ya. Take a .300 win mag, & sniperize that. Imagine how accurate that'll be at
1000 yards.......................................................................................................

i have a m44 aswell, the polish one produced in 53
these guns were exported to western europe and the US after 89 and most went off the mill to the arsenal before that.
mine is , as yours, in good shape.
i also thought about making a scout type rifle out of it.
but i would not want to sacrifice the irons for that.
so untill a mount comes out that allows cowittnes with the irons and is rock solid i dont mess around with my m44.

the break sure makes this thing more shootable but id rather have the bayonett open option- otherwise cut it off as its useless

Heya kobalt, thats pretty kool. This Hungarian is a 53, as well. There are several carbine scout mounts available for you, that are see thru for iron sight use.

Namely the jmeck, s&k & darrels scout scope mounts.
