Loaded up 3 different levels of this powder with some 155AMAXs for a buddy at work (whos now retired) for his son in laws Savage. 50, 50.5 & 51grs was used, got a message on my phone today and he reported 50.5grs was the most accurate shooting a 1/2" group(3 shots) @100yds. Win brass and primers were used, 2.825" OAL. Just an FYI, give it a try if youd like to see over 2900 fps from a 155 Bullet, not to mention good accuracy.

What was the muzzle length? Is the 2900fps figure chrony verified? </div></div>
Pretty sure his son in law has a new Savage, probably a 24" tube, and the velocity is my guesstimation looking at the Hodgdon data, they have 51grs. giving 2966, I figure 50.5 would be around 2926, give or take of course.

Re: CFE223 & 155MAX load!!

What's his twist rate? I have a 16" 1-10" and with 168 Amax and using the CFE223 48.1 grains I chrono'd an ave just below 2700 fps. Win brass, rem #9 1/2, 2.800".
I haven't tried a 155 anything but am curious to try.

Not sure what his twist rate is, its just a hunting rifle so either 10 or 12. I tried 48grs of 2000MR with the 168AMAX in my Classic stocked 700 308, 2000MR and CFE223 are very similar powders, again my estimation for that load is right around 2700fps in a 24" tube.

Re: CFE223 & 155MAX load!!

Could me underestimate. I chrono'd 48.1 grains CFE under 168 Amax and a five shot group had average velocity of 2692.3 fps. The high one was 2704.4 fps, low 2681.6. The barrel length is 16"!!! Maybe chrono reading high? I dunno but it's new chrono.

Re: CFE223 & 155MAX load!!

I tried ladder testing CFE223 with new Lapua brass, Fed 210 primers, and 168gr SMKs in my GAP Crusader. I got 2890 fps with 48.5gr. But watch out - at 48.7gr, I got all kinds of pressure signs, incl a blown primer.

I just loaded up 10 168AMAXs with 48.5grs today with Lapua brass & CCIBR primers.
