Specifically, I'm wondering how to get the blood out of my Eberlestocks. Do you just blot? With what? Soak them in a tub?

honestly? take it to a carwash, hang it on a clip thats for the floormats and pressure wash the shit out of it

Rub and blot it with soapy water (dawn dish soap).
Spray it with Spray-n-wash or similar pretreat spray.
Throw it in the washer on gentle cycle with cold water without any laundry soap.
Remove from washer and hang to dry.

Yep. That's the way to do it. After we'd come out of the field or back from training, we'd throw all of our shit in the back of my truck and head to the post car wash.
If it is all gunky and dried and won't come off, you could look into the color safe bleaches I guess. Oxidizers work well on blood if I'm not mistaken, so maybe some kind of stain lifter that is color safe and uses an oxidizer. Oxy Clean? Maybe something like that, just read the label.

Power wash with water. I don't use any soap because I don't know what kid of crap they put in there.
I would give a small amount of Oxyclean a try on anything that sticks around after the sprayer, but test it on a non-critical area first. It would suck for you pack to end up orange.

They get carried, stuffed, dropped, dragged, drenched, and otherwise abused on a regular basis. I figure if they can take that they can take a trip through the washing machine. Mine seem to do fine on the annual cleaning.

Like some of the other people have stated, I like using dawn dish soap and cold water. It has always worked great for me!!
