Most of you that shoot with me know my gear is always beat up, unpainted, mismatched colors, and in general has a lack of finish work. Nothing I own stays together long. Well, that's no longer true.

GAP just retuned my Backup Rifle and I have to say this is the first build I've had a smile ear to ear when opening the box. The finish work is amazing, NP3 looks great and I love the color combo. This went to George as a shot-out beater gun. The stock was almost destroyed by a CA based coatings company. Manners fixed the stock, GA shipped back one badass build

Builder: GAP Precision .260
Action: Templar - Smooth & fast
Barrel: Bartlein, 8 twist - Simply the best
Trigger: Remington - Tuned and worked by George
DBM: Badger - The original & still the best
Stock: Manners T4A - Stronger, Stiffer and lighter
Brake: JP Tank - Yep, it's loud as hell
Scope: Bushnell DMR - Loving it
Others: Badger EFR, Seekins rings, Harris bipod

I'm digging the NP3 coating. Not as slick as MircoSlick but the color is very nice.

SN# on parts of the build - It's the little things.

I've always had camo guns. Must say I like the simplicity or this one.

EFR to mount some toys with looking for stuff at night

I'll get the range this weekend and post up some reports and more pics. Sorry the pics suck the only camera I own is a broken iPhone.

Re: GAP .260, is back.

But...they put the bolt handle on the wrong side!

But seriously...looks great. Nice rifle!!

Re: GAP .260, is back.

The more I look at this think the more I'm impressed. Yes, I shoot for GA and have a few rifles but this one is the first to go through the whole build process not just a barreled action.

I've had rifes from 4 smiths and NOTHING is close to this lever of work.

Re: GAP .260, is back.

Copper Creek factory "custom loaded"' ammo ready to go. Too lazy to load practice ammo.

Do you like the alpha 2s or mod'ed aics better? Either more reliable? Is the max oal the same after modding the aics?

Re: GAP .260, is back.

I prefer the AW mags over anything. GAP has the magic when setting up actions and DBM to run them. They are so easy to load and I'v never had a failure.

This action will not run then so my only choice is Alpha or AICS. I prefer the AICS build quality 100 to 1 over the Alpha. The alpha mag all take work to get to run well and some are tighter than other in the mag well. I like the size of the Alpha over the 10 round AICS but the five rounds give you some choices. All said and done I don't have the confidence to run a Alpha in a match yet. So I guess I prefer the AICS. I'm going to run the Alphas for a bit to see what happens over time.

I can only get 2.860 out of a factory AICS. In a modified mag I can run 2.940 and have not tried anything longer.

Re: GAP .260, is back.

Looks like the new builds going to be a shooter like all my GAP rifles. Within the first 20 rounds things really started to tighten up. This is the same load as my old GAP .260. Ran out of ammo so I'll play with it some more tomorrow.

Five rounds shot prone, off a bipod, with a rear bag and under 1 min.

Started playing with the Copper Creek ammo too. Shooting around 1/2 MOA but I ran out of time after a few rounds and chronograph work. Both loads are running in the 2870 range according my chronograph.

I'll go back out tomorrow and post up the results

Thank you, good luck with the build.

Re: GAP .260, is back.

Nice GAP rifle, and some badass shooting. I've also got a 1/4 MOA GAP gun as well. Can't go wrong with a GAP gun.

Re: GAP .260, is back.

MV, Call josh and tell him I told you to call. His ammo is shooting well for me. I only have played with a few 100 rounds. I have 500 more of a few loads to test inbound.

Re: GAP .260, is back.

very cool finish, how much and how long did it take to get the action NP3ed??

Re: GAP .260, is back.

I took a few months to get the action back. I don't recall the cost but the price is on Robar's website

Personally I would never do it again. This action was so smooth before the finish. now it's very "gritty" (even when clean) and the extraction/cocking effort as increased.

Did you modify the aics mag yourself if so how did you do it?

I'm having a build done with a rem 700 and the AW is not an option so the modified aics or the alpha 2 is my choices but the bad pub on the alphas will make me mod an aics instead of deal with that alpha mess.

Re: GAP .260, is back.

I did have some issues with the Alpha mags the last event. They expand when loaded with 10 rounds and don't fit well.

I had GA ship the modified AICS mags with the rifle.
