Hi, I'm brand new to this forum and brand new to long range shooting.
I just bought a Remington 700 5r 26" stainless barrel in 300 WinMag.
I had a nice very heavy duty Bipod laying around that is sold by Berretta for use with some of their tactical carbines and its set up to mount to a picatinny rail. I looked at some Harris info and other BP's and many of them mount to the single stud under the for end of the stock. When I checked my new gun, it has TWO of those studs about 2" apart.
Did certain models come with two studs or do you suspect this was done by the previous owner and if so why??
What I did was to cut a short length of rail, drilled mounting holes and bolted and locktighted it to BOTH studs.
Then I slid the rail mounted BP to it and it seems to work fine. Just wondering if anyone can speculate on this or comment on my handiwork LOL

Re: weird bipod mounting situation

I have a .308 5R that I purchased new and have used several M24SWS. Both of which come standard with two front sling swivel studs. This allows you to mount a bipod and a sling, and yes all Harris bipods have a sling attachment point but I guess that it's better to have more options than less. If it's really bothering someone, one of the studs can always just be easily removed.
