Hey guys, I'm interested in buying a flashlight/laser combo for my AR-15. I'm more of an options type of guy in general, so I think that having a strobe function would be kind of cool. What do the experts recommend?

Thanks Experts! :)

Re: Flashlight/Laser Combination

Guys in the military prefer them being separate. Laser being perhaps an atpial and the light being some sort of surefire weapon light.
Insight tried coming out with a combo in the PEQ 16 but according to people in the know it broke down constantly upon usage.

Re: Flashlight/Laser Combination

Have you considered the Streamlight TLR-2S? I have a Streamlight TLR-2 without the strobe that I'm pretty happy with; it's been on a number of different weapons (9mm handgun, AR-15, .40 S&W handgun) and held zero fine. I think Viridian and Surefire also make well-regarded laser/light combos; there's also a Crimson Trace VFG I've been meaning to get my hands on to try out.

In the serious professional equipment range, you're going to want to go with the above advice I'd say - a Laser Devices DBAL, OTAL, ITAL, etc. up top and a separate light, probably a SureFire since that seems to be all the rage these days.

Edit: Worth mentioning the TLR-2 has a TINY, counter-intuitive little toggle switch for changing between laser/light/both mode - the KISS value in having separate systems is definitely there.

Re: Flashlight/Laser Combination

Go with separate, purpose-built for both. LDI makes great lasers, Surefire for flashlights.

Stay away from strobe, it's useless in 99.999% of cases and does more to screw with you, your target acquisition, and your ability to place well-aimed fire at speed, than any "OMG brain frying disorienting blah blah blah."

Re: Flashlight/Laser Combination

If you can drop the extra coin...I say get Surefire...I used to work for Streamlight in the repair department and I hear their warranty isn't the same as it used to be.

Re: Flashlight/Laser Combination

The surefire x400 is a nice unit, but not for a working gun. The selector switch has no locking feature and is easy to knock to a wrong or off position
