So Ive talked with my insurance guy, and to my surprise my policy only covered up to 1,000$ in firearms
    eek.gif
so I upped coverage to the max, which was only 10,000$
That would of been okay years ago, but my DTA with all the accessories would take all of that. So the question is; what other options are there, and what do you guys use and what do you like/dislike about it?

    Re: Gun insurance??

I'm using State Farm and I did a Personal Article Policy which covers everything except my Eberlestock pack(they don't insure carrying cases) for $110 a year and the deductible is $100 for about $7500 in items...

    Re: Gun insurance??

Well I just spoke with my agent again(Farmers), and he says for an additional 100ish dollars a year, I can get a "floater" that would cover my DTA (once appraised) for an additional 10,000$. He also said it would cover anything like theft, loss, dropped in a lake, ect. That sounds pretty good doesn't it?

    Re: Gun insurance??

I have USAA and was talking with my agent a day or two ago. It seemed like I couldn't go wrong with the floater that he offered me. $25000 of firearms coverage with $0 deductable for $16 a month. Covers accidental damage, loss, theft, etc.

    Re: Gun insurance??

Lockton Risk is an associate of the NRA and will cover whatever you want for however much you want. Guns over $2500 must be listed but serial numbers do not have to be provided. My coverage is $25k and is right at $400/yr.

I may have to look into USAA! I have been looking to dump State Farm anyway.

    Re: Gun insurance??

I spoke with those guys that handle the NRA coverage. There are actually two types of coverage. And one is half the price. The active type I think 1.25 per 100 dollars of coverage, the collector is half. It pretty well sounded to me that the ones you get out of the safe and actively shoot and might be subject to loss are the active, the collector guns stay in the safe would be the cheaper rate.

Holy shit that's awesome... I might have to swap coverage...

    Re: Gun insurance??

    <span style="text-decoration: line-through">I just did a PA with statefarm for 6500 and it is 83$ a year.

    It is worth it!</span>

Scrap that they just came back and said...you live in a flood zone no insurance for you!

So I went to insuremyguns.com check it out. through the NRA and seems like a good option. For me the only option at the moment.

    Re: Gun insurance??

FYI - When I spoke with State Farm today and made my case that the Eberlestock Pack is in fact a tool and not a "Storage Case" they agreed and made an exception to include it in the policy. My final policy is $116 per year for $8K in coverage for loss/theft/damage with $100 deductible.

    Re: Gun insurance??

It's funny as I just returned from my insurance agent to update my coverage as I have made a few trades this year. For 130 bucks I have very good coverage. It's better than a safe. A guy told me he could open any safe I could afford with a battery drill and an 1/8" drill bit. I told him you're nuts as they have a very hard plate protecting the locking mechanism. He said he wasn't going to drill the safe. He was going to drill holes in my knee cap till I coughed up the combo. Made sense to me.

    Re: Gun insurance??

i have a nice heavy safe but TSA says it is too heavy to fly with so therefore I need something 'different'

NRA I found to be 1.25 per 100$ insured and only items over 2500 have to be detailed but no s/n required.
25K in coverage for ~250 = yes please

Good luck with that if it's lost/stolen in transport or at a range, or does your safe come with it's own moving/transportation crew?

    Re: Gun insurance??

I know a person that has several machineguns. He tried to get insurance it was so expensive he ended up getting a 2 door 3,500 pound safe and a home security system. He said it was cheaper in the long run.

    Re: Gun insurance??

This got me thinking so I called my insurance agency (Travelers). When I told them everything including rifles, scopes, mounts (Spuhrs are pricey!), etc. it came to about $25k. They said for a $50 deductible my annual premium would be $860.

For comparison, I just filled out the Lockton application with the NRA and they offer the same coverage for $362/yr including fees/membership/etc. I think I'm going to go with Lockton....

    Re: Gun insurance??

When I inquired last year USAA needed serialized list and professional appraisals for each firearm.
Maybe that changed or I misunderstood, but the appraisal would be a huge hassle.

Lockton Risk (NRA associate) sounds interesting, I need to look into that.

    Re: Gun insurance??

I have thought about this lately as well but I'm already insurance poor. I spend almost $1000 a year on tool insurance and I'm under insured. I have been paranoid about theft after I had $5k in tools stolen out of a service truck I was running. If it hadn't been for the fact the truck didn't have more room I would have had close to $30k on there.

<div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Originally Posted By: coldboremiracle</div><div class="ubbcode-body">So who has had their guns appraised and how does it work, you just take it in to a dealer? And get an itemized list of the value, gun=3000$, scope=1800$, can=1200$, ect.?</div></div>

I had the builder appraise a custom bolt gun. He essentially provided me with an itemized invoice on his letterhead including parts/labor.

    Re: Gun insurance??

coldbore, I don't think any FFL can appraise.
For older or custom firearms there is a local gunshop that advertises 'certified appraisals'. They wanted me to bring everything in and leave it there while they researched, and charge approx $30 per firearm. Their point was for example a Win 70 pre-64 value is heavily dependant on condition, so they need to have it there to research....

sawgunner's idea is great, for a recent gun the builder would know

    Re: Gun insurance??

CBM, check out farm bureau insurance. Their standard policy covers big money on firearms. I believe it's up 70% of your gross home value, or maybe it's contents. Either way your firearms are covered.
They offer an extra policy that even covers lost firearms, say of u "forgot" one in the woods. That side wasn't worth it to me, but I found it interesting.

The possible down side on this, is they have crap insurance, for furs, jewelry, watches. Absolutely not a problem at me casa. They also spanked USAA, Allstate, and farmers on my recent quote fest.

    Re: Gun insurance??

    Can't go wrong with USAA!
I talked to an Allstate agent who wanted my business. When he asked who I was currently with I said USAA and he politely said "I can't compete with that!"

    Re: Gun insurance??

I work with a company that shops 30+ of the top rated insurance companies in the US. Give them a call and tell them exactly what your wanting and they will match you with an insurer. This is a much easier route than calling 30 differant agents to get quotes and details. They are a no pressure company so feel free to see what they can do for you.

You will need to give them this info when getting your quote:
