Good LEO Duty Boots?

I work in the oil industry (not in the field) but the rig-guys I've meet seem to love RedWings because they're tough and comfortable and they're going to be far harder on them than your average cop.

Hilarious lol

Re: Good LEO Duty Boots?

I work in corrections and recently bought a pair of underarmour speed freaks. They are very comfortable and light weight. Especially if you are going to be doing a lot of standing.

Re: Good LEO Duty Boots?

A little above the price you listed, but take a quick look at Kennetrek. I bought a pair of the hard tactical boots this spring and I am very happy with them. Lots of suppport, good construction, take a shine very well and they aren't too heavy. As an aside I was very unhappy with the last pair of Danners I bought. I guess they out-sourced some models to China. Apparently moldy rat hides are used in all the top of the line boots in China.

Re: Good LEO Duty Boots?

I had some Danner Strikers and they lasted less then 6 months before they started falling apart. I had 5.11 boots prior to that and send them back for a replacement. I am going to go ahead and wear the 5.11 replacments and have the department order me some winter boots.

Re: Good LEO Duty Boots?

The low end Danners are made in China or somewhere. The good ones, i.e. Acadia, Ft Lewis, etc. are US made and rebuildable. I have a pair of Ft. Lewis that are going on ten years and three sets of soles. I'm thinking about sending them back for a complete rebuid. They did a great job rebuilding my hunting boots (Canadians) the brown leather version of the Ft Lewis with a different sole. Some of the cheaper stuff they put out to compete with Rocky and 5.11 is crap. I wish they hadn't done that, but I still say they make the best boot out there, they are just high as a cats a** now.

Re: Good LEO Duty Boots?

Danners rock. However, Acadia models are not rebuildable. The APBs are and are extremely durable. They last much longer.

Re: Good LEO Duty Boots?

If LEO wear is anything like military wear...which I'll bet it is, Danner and don't look back. Other notable's are Rocky. They have been in teh industry a long time. I cannot speak to 5.11 but have seen their stuff fall apart on deployment. UA, well, that's all made offshore so take that for what it's worth. My Danners have never lasted less than 8 years with one or two resole jobs on them

These are the boots that I've been wearing for the past two years. They've held up rightly well. Just got another pair today.

Re: Good LEO Duty Boots?

I've been wearing Bates GX-8 for two years now every day and they're just now starting to have some minor issues with the tread, I think they were like $180 or so.

Re: Good LEO Duty Boots?

I vote Danner Acadias too. I'm on my 4th or 5th pair. Not because I wore 'em out but because we get a damn good uniform allowance and I get a pair about once a year. I'll never own another pair of Bates again. I tried 2 pair and they were garbage.

Re: Good LEO Duty Boots?

I guess I wasn't a very good cop, all I wore was leather cowboy style boots without the fancy stiching.

I had two sets, keeping an extra pair (and socks) in the car. In and out of the car in Anchorage makes for wet feet. You warm boots (from riding in a car) attracts snow when you get out, which melts when you get back in. Nice to have dry boots and socks. It don't take long for the wet boots to dry with you tucked them up under the radio where the heater can get to them.

Worked fine for me for 20 years.

They get my vote. I've got two pair now. Worth the money in my opinion.

Re: Good LEO Duty Boots?

15yrs + Corrections. Concrete to Mountains and everything in between. I like "ECCO" alot. Great all around traction, durable, and most comfortable Boot I've worn. You will not be sorry.

Re: Good LEO Duty Boots?

+1 Danner!! GTX I think are what I'm wearing right now. Best boots so far. I bought the non metallic ST's and gortex membrane. They're good shit.

Re: Good LEO Duty Boots?

I've worn the Danner GTX and they were great but the sole didn't seem to last that long and they can't be re-soled.

I've had two pair of Corcoran Field Boots. Sizing is weird sometimes but they are great boots, and can be re-soled.

Also wore Adidas GSG 9.2. Very athletic style and comfortable.

I avoid Rocky, Bates, and HiTec.

Re: Good LEO Duty Boots?

To be perfectly honest, I've thought about going with a pair of black jungle boots like I wore in the Army. They were comfortable (after broken in), shined up nicely, and weren't very hot with their nylon upper. In my experience though, the sizing on these is all over the map and one would be wise to try them on before purchasing. The soles don't last all that long, but at $30-$50 a pair, either get 'em re-soled or buy another pair.

Re: Good LEO Duty Boots?

Ive worn danners of sevral kinds for nearly 20 years. My firt were the Ft Lewis. great boots but heavy.

Danner Acadia are the answer !!!! I wear the Acadia gtx 200 gram year round.

Ive had several pairs and Ive had all of them resoled. not sure why some posters have said they cant be.

if you dont mind mailing them off. Military Boot Repair . com does an awesome job for cheap. They also use a bit softer lighter weight midsole which made them even better

Re: Good LEO Duty Boots?

Stay away from the Corcoran Field boots, UNLESS you like replacing boots every five years. They split right behind the toe cap on the outside. Thin leather or something. Two pair in ten years...Danners and Matterhorns(same same) 10 years each.
It wasn;t until I needed a pair of TAN roughout boots for duty that I got my last set of Danner Temperate boots...working on 7 years so far.
Corcoran, lighter weight all leather, and polishable to a high shine. Danner, well dull polish since they only recommend conditioner adn NEVER use wax based, ie, Lincoln polish on them.

Re: Good LEO Duty Boots?

Danners.

I blew out 2 pairs of bates in 7 months, was given a used set of Danners and still wear them 3.5 years later. Obsession has caused me to buy 3 more pairs of Danners for home and hunting.

Re: Good LEO Duty Boots?

man if you can save alittle more i wear a pair of danner ft lewis go devils ive had for close to 12 years, resoled several times thre like house shoes will last you alooon time but they aint cheap

Re: Good LEO Duty Boots?

I wore danners for 5 years before getting transfered to the office. I still have them and occasionally still use them when working special events. great boots, I also wear them for huunting.

Re: Good LEO Duty Boots?

As has been mentioned before....Danner Acadia's. My feet haven't gotten wet once in the three years I've had them.

I've worn Bates, Magnums, & 5.11 and none of them come close. I was going through a pair of the former every 4-5 months. My acadia's have lasted 3 years and haven't even been resoled yet.
