Just received my brand new Aimpoint H-1 Micro and it appears that the red dot is not perfectly round, its almost kinda elongated. Is this something to do with my eyes or is something wrong with the sight?

Seems to get worse when I turn up the intensity?

Maybe I'm just crazy?

Re: Aimpoint H-1 Micro????

Aimpoint gets this question a lot -- If your dot does not appear to be perfectly round, the distortion is probably caused by the way that your eye perceives the dot, rather than by some mechanical defect. Due to differences in the lenses in different individuals' eyes, round objects that subtend areas near 3 minutes of angle may appear distorted in a variety of ways depending on the individual and other environmental influences. Inexpensive red dot sights sometimes have manufacturing defects that can cause the dot to be an odd shape.

A simple test that can be easily performed will allow you to determine the cause of the apparent distortion:
Turn the sight on and look through as you normally would. (This test is easiest when the sight is not mounted on a firearm, but can be performed with the sight mounted as well. Just make sure that the firearm is unloaded and pointed in a safe direction.)
While continuing to look through the sight, roll the sight on its optical axis.
If the dot's irregularities seem to revolve around the center of the dot like the spokes of a wheel, there is a mechanical defect causing the distortion.
If the dot does not roll with the sight, the distortion is caused in the way your eye perceives the dot. This is not to say that you don't have good vision. You can see clearly and still see a distortion in objects this small.

This effect is less pronounced in sights with larger dots. More people will see the dot in a sight with a 10 minute-of-angle dot as being perfectly round than will be able to see a 3 MOA dot as round.

I have a secret fix I can do here at home. I'll give you $50.00 for that junk sight you have.

Re: Aimpoint H-1 Micro????

I have an eotech, when I wear my glasses the circle and dot is clear when I don't have my glasses on it is a little fuzzy.. I'm willing to bet that if you don't wear glasses go get your eyes checked and if you do happen to get glasses from your optomologist you definitely will see a difference..
Just my .02 and what I have encountered.

Re: Aimpoint H-1 Micro????

Usually when I hear people are having this problem, they have an astigmatism.

Re: Aimpoint H-1 Micro????

What He said ^^^^^ I have astigmatisms in both eyes and my dots are all sorts of FD up and Eotechs I get 2 reticles for the price of one. If I have my glasses on they problem goes away.

Re: Aimpoint H-1 Micro????

+1 on astigmatism (likely). Pretty common. Non-fatal. Also pretty much a non-issue if you are operating that thing under stress.

Here is one thing you can do to tighten things up...flip up your rear iron peep sight if you have one installed. The dot will be perfectly tight and round--like the way you were hoping it would look!
This is what I do if I need to be 'precise' with the red dot.

Re: Aimpoint H-1 Micro????

Ya just turned 44 and I've been having trouble with small print. Guess I will bite the proverbial bullet and go get some glasses or contacts. Sucks getting older.

Haha. Not far behind you my friend at 41. In the words of the immortal Stones, "What a drag it is getting old"

Re: Aimpoint H-1 Micro????

I think another way you can check if it is eyes vs. Aimpoint is to take a picture through the Aimpoint with a digital camera. Then look at the picture. If it is your eyes, the dot should be pristine in the picture. If the Aimpoint dot is imperfect, the dot will not be round in the picture.

Re: Aimpoint H-1 Micro????

Forgot to say . . . whether or not the dot turns out to be perfect, you still may be crazy

Re: Aimpoint H-1 Micro????

Astigmatism causes the distortion for most of us. Adjusting down the brightness of the dot reduces the distortion significantly for me.
