I have been doing some scouting and found a spot where for 3 nights in a row i have heard probably 15 coyotes and a few groups of coyotes howling yipping and barking about half an hour after sun down.

My question is, they are all on military property and i do not have access to it. it is fenced off with that 4 inch square "chicken" wire fence that is about 4 feet tall. Will they jump the fence to come to my call?

Re: Will a coyote jump a fence?

they usually try to go around fences and obstacles if they can, I haven't seen any jump a chain link fence but that doesn't mean they can't I guess. I doubt they would to go to a call, maybe to try to escape from something they would but again it's not something I have seen where I'm at.

Re: Will a coyote jump a fence?

They certainly can but they tend to find the easiest way to get to the other side of the fence unless they are in a hurry such as being chased by dogs.

Re: Will a coyote jump a fence?

They will jump a fence faster than you can say "YOTE" 4' fence , No Problem!!

Re: Will a coyote jump a fence?

Might be a good idea to walk the fence line and see if you can find a spot where they have dug a hole under the fence. if they have, set up and call near this spot.

Re: Will a coyote jump a fence?

We have a 4' fence and there are no holes or spaces for anything bigger than a rabbit to get in.

The coyotes still come in my yard at night when the dogs are put away.

I will try this. Thanks

Re: Will a coyote jump a fence?

Hopefully it works. I have had them coming in to the call and watched them run along a fence line until they come across a spot where the fence is down or there is an easy spot to get across the fence, they almost always cross at this point. just noticed you are in saratoga springs, i chase my share of utah coyotes as well.

Re: Will a coyote jump a fence?

Coyotes will find the path of least resistance when coming to a call. They will look at going under before going over. If it is a coyotes home territory then they know that ground and have dug or made mental notes of the shortcuts in their territory.

Like stated earlier, find a travel corridor and set up near that opening.
Coyotes are lazy hunters unless triggered by their instincts. Food, breeding, etc.

Re: Will a coyote jump a fence?

A friend of mine had coyotes jumping his chainlink fence to his yard. He bought something called a coyote roller. It's a spinning pipe that runs across the top of the fence so they can't get purchase on the top rail.

So yep, they'll jump a fence.

Re: Will a coyote jump a fence?

i dont see why they couldnt jump a fence if they needed to just like any medium sized canine.
