Looking for some opinions on scope selection under $2000. I am looking for a new scope for a 308. It will mainly be used for punching paper but I do plan on starting to shoot a few F Class T/R matches. My price range is going to be between 1 and 2 thousand preferably closer to the $1000 mark. I really like the Nightforce line but in order to stay loser to the $1000 I have started to look at the Vortex PST's.
Thanks for any input.

Re: Best scope under $2000

Get a NF 8-32x56 BR scope: $1100 if you shop around. This is the gold standard for competitive scopes and everything you need for F-class. Give EuroOptic a call: good peeps. The 12-42x56 scope will run you another couple hundred, but the 8-32 is what I'd suggest. I rarely turn mine above 20x. Lots of folks like the Vortex, but I don't see any in use at F-class events. Weaver, Sightron, Leupold, Nightforce, S&B, March.....that's what I see on the competitive shooter's rifles. Nightforce is the favorite by far and I think that is because they provide the best bang for the buck and are bullet-proof scopes.

Re: Best scope under $2000

NF 8-32 BR is a bargain - not the adjustment of the NXS, but with the right base will get most cartridge choices to 1000 yd

Re: Best scope under $2000

On this particular rifle I want a side parallax adjustment which the NF does not have. So with the BR off the list what would the next recommendation be?

Re: Best scope under $2000

I am in the same boat. I think I am going to go with the Bushnell HDMR. It has a huge mag range, FFP, and a awesome reticle.

Re: Best scope under $2000

I have had great success with my Nightforce scopes. I would go with a 5.5-22X56 Nightforce NXS with the MOAR reticle.

I hear the HDMR is a great option, I just do not have any first hand experience with it.

Re: Best scope under $2000

Just talked to eurooptic and they advise that
the NF BR scopes to have paralax adj
They are on front ig the scope. Ya turn the
eye piece. My question is, is the NF BR 8-32
clearer than the Vortex PST Viper 6-24x50 FFP

The eye piece is on the rear. The objective lens is on the front. The parallax is adjusted by moving the objective lens.

Vortex scopes don't impress in the clarity department compared to the NF.

Re: Best scope under $2000

Check out the Sightron S-III 8-32X56 with the LRMOA reticle. I have one on a 300RUM and couldn't be more pleased.....Use the money you save for AMMO.

+1

Re: Best scope under $2000

I think Nightforce and vortex bring some great value to the table. but it's a very subjective question, because it depends on what your doing. for fclass, it's tought to be a nightforce 8-32, with a nice thin npr2 reticle.

Then get an 8-32x56 NXS with 1/8MOA turrets. This will cost you a LOT more though.

Keep in mind that scopes are very application specific. You said target shooting and F-Class. Those events do not require a side adjustable parallax. If you want something more flexible and generaly purpose, the NXS is good.....quite a bit more though.

Re: Best scope under $2000

My target shooting is not from a bench, but in a field engaging multiple targets at dif ranges. The NXS is my first choice but can I spend less for a scope that will work. I know I can get better glass for less than the NXS but I would be sacrificing the toughness of the NXS. So is the NXS worth the price dif. If my life or someone else's life was dependent on my setup then yes there would be no question, but since this is just for practice is it worth it?

Re: Best scope under $2000

I found the sightron s3 to be on par with the nightforce to my own eyes and at half the cost you can buy 2. My sightrons have tracked perfect, but I wish they were ffp. Thinking of the bushnell hdmr to get the ffp and huge mag range.

Re: Best scope under $2000

I have a Sightron SII target and love it and am really considering a SIII. My only concern with them is the construction. I am rough on my rifles and need a scope that can take it.
