Got a crossbreed supper tuck and been carrying it every day after work and the weekend, so far pretty good. Could use a bit more retention but I'm starting to not notice it so much.

Anyway, do you guys treat your leather with mink oil or any other product?

Also do you just throw a spare mag in a pocket or get a mag holder for it?

Re: Cary leather and spare mags?

If you need more retention throw the gun in and get the hair dryer out and SLOWLY and EVENLY heat up around the trigger and press down slightly on the kydex til you get the retention you want.

I used to wipe my holsters down with mink oil every few months... It's been a year since I did that now....

For mags, yea, get a carrier. If you ever need to use it you will never get one out of your pockets...... You might as well be wearing ski gloves while reaching in your pocket.

If you prefer IWB, Crossbreed makes a nice mag carrier in either single or double mag configuration.

Re: Cary leather and spare mags?

Tucker Gunleather makes a great magazine holder, both IWB and OWB. I would highly suggest getting a mag holster so that when you need the magazine, you have rapid access to the mag and its already oriented in proper position and there will be no fumbling. I personally run a 1911 with a double holder on the weak side. not only do i carry with this setup, but i shoot IDPA competition with the same setup.

Re: Cary leather and spare mags?

Firstly, don't oil holsters, even if they're only partly leather. Softening the leather makes it grippy and grabby. You want the leather in a holster to be firm and exactly molded to the firearm so that it allows a positive draw when firmly grasped and withdrawn, but not to be loose enough so that the weapon can drop out if the rig is inverted. Secondly, Crossbreed is not anywhere near a be-all, end-all holster. I've said my bit in other threads about them. Thirdly, by all means carry spare magazines ON your belt, not IN your belt. While iWB holsters can be comfortable, IWB magazine pouches tend not to be. I primarily use horsehide-constructed holsters from Kramer and Milt Sparks, and I'm not a huge fan of kydex.

Re: Cary leather and spare mags?

Your own natural body oil will help form the holster to your body. I call it "putting your own stink on it". I Like horse hide as well, but it squeaks when its new. I have leather / kydex and some kydex holsters. I always come back to the all leather. You should always carry a reload that is easy to access with both hands, especially for an auto. I like my crossbreed supertuck. I am looking for a set of dress all leather holsters.
