I understand for the past couple days that the smoke column has been punching up to 40,000 feet, ala extreme fire behavior, and rapid growth. Table Mountain tripled in size yesterday, 10,000 to 30,000+ acres!

Re: SHWW Group

I posted the tentative course of fire for the October practical rifle match at Upper Nisqually in the Puget sound area shooters section. If anyone can explain how I can easily transfer that entry into this thread I'll be happy to do so.

Otherwise, I'm hoping to save myself alot of typing by simply making an entry in this section, rather than having to retype the entire entry.

It is only about 4 mouse clicks to access the entry about the match in the other section, so please don't be too cranky over my lack of computer sophistication.

Re: SHWW Group

copy and paste my friend

I have the tentative course of fire for the October Match at UNSC pretty well thought out. But, if someone has some alternative ideas, I'm open to suggestions (polite ones about the match anyhow).

Round count: 73 if you don't miss (very unlikely)
Start time: 8am for orientation for all first time shooters, 10 am for the match
Entry fee: $20

"AtOne" made an excellent suggestion that I will be implementing for the next orientation. Rather than having everyone listen as I run through all the scoring system, penalties, and so on, I'll print them up and pass them out. This should shorten up the orientation time by about half.

Because of Civil Liability, the safety portion will have to be done. Hopefully, by implementing this will save us about an hour. IF the timing works out, in the future, we can change our timing around to suit the desires of the participants.

Stage 1. An Alvin York stage shot from far to near, with position changes.
Currently 13 rounds if you don't miss (unlikely).
Stage 2. Rooftop stage. Engage 6 targets from position #1, move to position
#2 on the rooftop and engage remaining targets. We will include
the mini targets that we received from JCSTEELTARGETS.COM in this
stage. Aprox size: 2x3 inch rectangle, and a 3x5 inch diamond,
for the mini targets: 16 rounds minimum
Stage 3. Supported seated, and supported kneeling. There will be two
positions, one for seated, one for kneeling, both offering some
additional support to steady the shooter. On start signal begin
engaging targets. If you have 2 consecutive misses, you have to
change to the other position. You may change back after taking
at least two shots from the new position. Engage targets front to
rear, then rear to front.
22 rounds minimum
Stage 4. The area between two of the concrete block shooting benches will
be roped off as the shooting area. Hit designated targets with the
soles of your feet on the ground inside the shooting box, you may
use the tops of the bench for support. Then engage the remaining
targets while seated, kneeling, squatting, offhand, or in some other
position inside the shooting box; you may brace against the bench,
or use any other readily available support while inside the shooting
box.
22 rounds
Time limit on all stages is 180 seconds.

Re: SHWW Group

Well guys I can not stand it, I want to get in on a GB here on the hide and need the funds so I am putting up some stuff for sale and want to keep it local for simplicity and as such you guys get first crack. Please feel free to PM with questions or pictures/prices etc etc. I am located around the Cle Elum/ Ellensburg area for FTF deals which I prefer but might ship if need be.

1. Rem 700 bolt and barrel combo in 300RCM- Both the barrel and bolt are from same rifle which was originally a sps v 308 1/12 twist. Bolt was trued up by PAI along with a PAI bolt knob, barrel was cut down to 22" and threaded 5/8-24 and coated with OD cerakote. I then had JD at HSSS open up the bolt to accept the 300rcm and add a sako extractor. The barrel was rechambered in 300RCM. About 400rds of 308 and 100rds of factory 300rcm through the barrel.

SOlD 2. GAP take off Rem 700 Broughton 260 1/8 ( I believe its 1/8 but forgot to write it down) barrel with 50rds fired, Chambered by GAP and has the GAP logo as well. IT has fluting, no threads on the muzzle end. I bought this off a guy who wanted to go back to 308 I was going to use this when my 260 barrel took a poop. Measures 24.75 from end to end. Symbol on the barrel is for Tim "Roach" Ferrell.

3. NEW PTG 2piece 223 complete Rem 700 bolt, sako style extractor w/ threaded bolt knob with there tactical style bolt knob. This is a new bolt and as such will need the handle welded on etc etc. I bought this for a 300blk project that never took off

4. XLR Industries HD with 16" hand guard and a custom longer cheek piece for a Rem 700 LA, CIP length with two 5rd Badger 338LM cip mags with front rib removed for use with a 300rum / 338edge. I had JD from HSSS mill be some extra flat spots on the stock where the check piece attaches to allow the butt pad to be offset a touch and keep the cheek piece where it needs to be. This made the stock a lot more comfortable to shoot since it sat in the shoulder pocket a lot better when being straight behind the rifle. There are a few rub marks on it from use/ gunsafe battle wounds lol.

5. DCLW Tripod with Flat Top and DLOC locking system, never really used it much so its on the chopping block. This is the one sold by Phoenix tactical.

Thanks guys!

Re: SHWW Group

Hey guys, I have my father in law coming into spokane today, (my wife and i just moved here recently) and he wants me to take him shooting. Does anyone know of a decent range near the south hill area? I don't need anything that stretches out to forever. just something kinda chill without being unsafe.

Re: SHWW Group

OT, hit up the Mica range. SPokane valley rifle and pistol club or something like that.

Same range, but that's just out town, I think five bucks a head or something.

Re: SHWW Group

Thanks! I appreciate it. I lucked out and didn't have to go with the father in law, but, I do need to get out there. It's almost time for the hunting to start....

Re: SHWW Group

SOLD

Got something else up on the chopping block since the rifle it was once on is long gone now. I have a used NF NSX 3.5-15x50 NPR1/.250 moa, has some scratches (character) on it but works great. Reticule is very bright. I also have a 20moa Unimount with the top ring bubble level that is a option as well. Got this posted on barfcom as well for a few bucks more.

Scope only - $1150
Scope and mount w/ bubble level - $1350

Re: SHWW Group

Hey guys,
I just heard on the radio that a fellow shooter here in Eastern Wa. was killed last Thursday.
Matt Karstetter, who worked for Bonneville Power as a lineman.

http://www.nwcn.com/home/?fId=171215321&fPath=/news/local&fDomain=10222

http://www.yakima-herald.com/obits/2012/09/26/matthew-karstetter

Edited to add this from his obit:
Fellow workers said that a few days before Matt's death he was lowered to the wires by helicopter to rescue a crewman having a heart attack. Securely wrapped in Matt's arms, both tethered to a 70 ft. rope, a helicopter lifted them off the wires and flew them to a waiting ambulance. "Twice," they said, "Matt rescued and saved the life of a fellow crewman."

Matt was/is a member here that went by the screen name of: mjk0352

He was a pretty cool guy that would just stop in and hang out for a while in my shop.

R.I.P. Matt

Re: SHWW Group

That's unfortunate. My condolences to his family...

Re: SHWW Group

Matt and I went to school together. I lost touch with him for a number of years, and then we briefly re-connected at the last Findley Cup. Matt was a veteran and a good guy...

Re: SHWW Group

Anyone going to the Medical Lake Veterans Cemetery afterwords ?
I called and they are expected to get started there about 1500hrs.
Dude on the phone said better show up a little early.
I have been to the M.L. Veterans Cemetery a few times.
The last time I was there was for the Memorial Day 2012 Celebration, here are a couple of pictures from that:

I'll be the guy with a shaved head & sunglasses wearing a Black Red Tac Gear T-shirt, probably in the back somewhere staying out of everyones way.
Not sure if it would be ok... but I'm going to try to get some pictures.

Peace,
Stu

Re: SHWW Group

Matt (Shrek) was a good friend and a great Lineman. Over half of the trucks in this tribute were from other Utilities and Construction crews, Linemen that knew Matt from his apprenticeship and from here at BPA. Just shows how much he meant to us and the kind of Brotherhood he was a part of. Rest in Peace Matt.

Re: SHWW Group

I didn't personally know him but always sad to hear about those that leave life here on earth to quickly R.I.P

Re: SHWW Group

Just a note to all that are coming to FSC Dec 1&2 I thought up a couple new stages last night. One involving barb wire, and another involving a couch. This will turn your dry fire practice at home into reality. As a bonus you will become a true "couch commando"

Re: SHWW Group

AtOne correctly pointed out that I put the wrong date down in the posting for the October practical rifle match at upper Nisqually. The correct date will be October 20th.

If it is more convenient to have the orientation/safety briefing at 8:30am rather than 8am, please let me know, and I'll gladly change the time for anyone who needs a change. I can work with either time.

Re: SHWW Group

Just a heads up for anyone in the area that was interested... the two-day 3x600 Prone/F-Class match @ NCWGC in East Wenatchee was cancelled due to the smoke from the fires in the surrounding areas.

That is all.

Just a reminder, Scott has no honor and Will back stab you the first chance he gets.

Re: SHWW Group

Well folks, for those of you headed out next weekend for the general rifle deer season opener, good luck. With the warm weather we've been having, I just haven't gotten too excited about the hunting, altho the last couple mornings have been ~20 degrees. I Hope we get some measurable rain soon. I'm gonna dust off a hunting rifle or three this weekend, just in case my neck starts to swell. The area I'll be looking for elk in a few weeks has those new fangled large dark colored coyotes.

Re: SHWW Group

Leaving on Thursday. Not looking forward to hunting in bright sunshine, & 60* temps but the weather is what the weather is.

Re: SHWW Group

Bigwheels,
As the wise man said: "The worst day hunting (or fishing) is better than the best day at work."

I too would prefer hunting after a fresh snow, or rain. Heavy rain the a couple of days before I leave camp, with temperatures around 40F, but not rain stopping about an hour before leave camp. Heavy enough rain to make the critters hunker down, then rain stopping about an hour before dawn so they go out browsing for food...

Snow works too...makes tracking lots easier.

Re: SHWW Group

Hey guys, I got a new rifle and I am pretty stoked about it.

It's a defiance action I got at the Findlay cup. Put a Bartlein barrel on it that I had laying around from a trade I made last year.

It was mated together by RBros to be a 6.5x47 lapua. I'm shooting the 130 JLKs with my confirmed BC of .602.

I have never shot paper before at 300 yards, but with the new rifle I thought I would give it a shot.

Here is a picture of the only five shot group I got. Witnessed by Brian Pence.

5 shots at 300 yards.

Measured center to center at .588" at widest spot.
Vertical measures .332" max.

About a constant 4-5 MPH wind from our 5 o clock.

Best part about it is that this is shot with leftover ammo from my old 6.5x47. Seems like I can skip the load development part with this new gun!!!

Re: SHWW Group

Pssh... I get those groups at 1k+ when I'm chillin at the mall...

Re: SHWW Group

Looks like a shooter! Nice group. I'll have to run out there some time, & check out your new spot. Next time I go to Sunnyside for goose hunting maybe I can get over there. It would most likely be in Dec/Jan.

Re: SHWW Group

Sounds good brother, bring that little short range gun of yours and we will put it to the test!!

Re: SHWW Group

It was a very nice group he shot. If the wind wouldn't have been blowing that group would be in the 10. Good shooting Jake and nice rifle.

Re: SHWW Group

I looks exactly the same boys, same stock, same contour barrel. Identical. I will take a picture though. Just for you guys!!!

Re: SHWW Group

Practical rifle match coming up this coming Saturday at Upper Nisqually Sportsman's club, rain or shine. As we use steel targets, the rain shouldn't be an issue though.
