Hey guy's I just ordered myself a Vortex Viper PST 4-16X50. The dilemma that I am having is I want to get one mount that I can run from my 6.5 Grendel AR to my 308 Model 700. Anyone have any ideas on quick detach mounts or anything. Thanks

Re: Quick Detach Mount

Yep, get a GDI. http://www.gdiengineering.com/

If that's a little too rich for your blood, American Defense makes a good mount as well. http://www.americandefensemanufacturing.com/browse/category/opticmounts/scopemounts/

Re: Quick Detach Mount

That's a little too spendy I was thinking around the $200 dollar range and is eye relief going to be a problem from one to the other?

No sir, it does not. The Spuhr mounts do though.

Very true...so when it comes to mounts, do NOT buy Larue.

Re: Quick Detach Mount

Am I going to have enough elevation to get to zero with that american defense mount? How horrible will the change in eye relief be?

Re: Quick Detach Mount

You can choose from several different mounts. I used the AD-Recon. You can lock down the mount wherever you need it to accommodate for the proper eye relief for each rifle.

You have a bad experience? I rather like mine but always want to know what others think as well.

Re: Quick Detach Mount

Larue mounts, over time, damage the rail and have a tendency to work loose. Do a search on here and you'll find info about it.

Re: Quick Detach Mount

It's a case of bearing surface, you don't want the mount with the least amount of bearing surface on the rail, which is what the Army found out recently.

Re: Quick Detach Mount

Killshot have you ever put an american defense on a bolt gun?

Good to Know, thanks guys.

Re: Quick Detach Mount

I know I won't have a prob with that mount on my AR. I haven't heard of a lot of guys putting a qd on there bolts. Anyone done it?

Re: Quick Detach Mount

i run a bobro mount w/ a 4-16x50 pst on my grendel and switch it out to my savage 308 and they both retain there zero(differnt zero marks on scope for each rifle)

Re: Quick Detach Mount

jamesz71 what bobro mount do you use? with the scope being that far forward do you have any problems with eye relief?

Re: Quick Detach Mount

Thanks james I am thinking I am going to run with the American Defense recon mount. Im sure that will get to my doorstep before my scope haha

Re: Quick Detach Mount

Killshot, what do you think about the recon-SL model for a POF?

I have a POF w/ HSR rail and don't think I need the clearance for my optic. Also, because the rail sits a little higher on a POF, and I plan on using a CTR, I am not sure I want the extra height off the bore.

Re: Quick Detach Mount

Lone Wolf made a video review of the ADM mount vs. Bobro. From what I recall, the Bobro returned to zero better than the ADM. Having said that, I run an ADM mount, though I rarely remove it from my rifle. Lone Wolf also goes by 8541 Tactical.

Re: Quick Detach Mount

On my Ar15's I use a ADM extended recon and it reruns to zero fine but they are not what I would consider presision rifles (my LMT MRP is close).

I am in the same situation as the OP. For my mount I am going to try the Bobro. Seems to be well thought out.

Re: Quick Detach Mount

bobro sounds like bozo with food in your mouth but it works

I can't advise you one way or the other because I haven't used that particular mount. Sorry man.

Re: Quick Detach Mount

Well, I answered my own question. I bought an AD-Recon-S, 30mm. The centerline height is 1.47" which is excessive for a POF in my opinion (The rail on a POF is higher off the bore than a normal AR). With a good cheek weld I am looking strait into the lower rim of the scope.

I just ordered the SL (centerline 1.02") which should bring that down some but I am probably still going to need one of the cheek risers available from Magpul. I'm thinking the SL may still allow clearance of a low profile back-up sight?

Anyone happen to know of a set of back-up irons that are especially slim?
