Rifle Scopes Vortex 1-4 ?

Re: Vortex 1-4 ?

if you do a search you will find that most folks love them. im one of the folks that love mine

Re: Vortex 1-4 ?

The Razor 1-4 or the PST 1-4?

I really am impressed with the preformance of the PST 1-4 at the price point. It does a lot of things well and in the price point it's at all those "does well" turns into an overall value to me.

I use it back and forth on an AR15 and a 500SW break action hunting rifle.

Re: Vortex 1-4 ?

I am digging the Razor 1-4 and like the reticle, but am thinking of bumping up to the 1-6 just for more distance.

Re: Vortex 1-4 ?

the range on a 1-4 depends on what your trying to hit. on a man size target im about 7 out of 10 at 750 yards

With 77SMK home rolled I didn't have too many issues hitting IPSC torso's at 750yd with it. At 300-600 it's very straightforward.

Re: Vortex 1-4 ?

My buddy asked my opinion on what he should put on his AR for a 1-4x with price of less than $600 and i recommended the PST 1-4x with MOA reticle. Got it last week from Alex at Eurooptic and mounted it for him. I am pretty damn impressed for a $500 scope. Daylight visible dot, it is still not true 1x but i dont remember ever seeing a variable that the 1x was like looking thru an aimpoint or Eotech. But it is pretty close maybe 1.1-1.2x. The glass is very clear and zooms properly. The turrets are very nice and crisp. Overall, if i was in the need i would be looking at the PST very closely.

i dont think its possibable for a magnified optic to be a true 100% 1x

Re: Vortex 1-4 ?

the vortex 1x6 should be available soon, might want to look into that.

Re: Vortex 1-4 ?

I've got one on my 16" AA piston gun and am very happy. My range goes to 400 yards and the man size steel targets are a piece of cake. Glass is clear, reticle works good up close.

Hey Guys,
If you are not getting a true 1x out of our 1x scopes it would be because the eyepiece is not adjusted correctly to your eye. If you turn the diopter all the in it should actually go below 1x (unless you have superman type vision;) ).

Any of our scopes that are listed as 1x are absolutely true 1x. Play with the eyepiece a little and you should be able to get set up this way.

If you are having trouble getting it set up this way give us a call and we can walk you through it.

Best Regards
Scott

Re: Vortex 1-4 ?

I do not work for Vortex , But I do ware the Vortex Colors when I compete. I have helped several shooters get the Full Joy from the Great glass.
A True 1X is a reality, once you get the eye piece adjusted for your eye. Take some time to read the instructions that came with the scope. And you will find once adjusted for your vision targets from 50 yards to 200 yards on 1X look sharper and with better definition through the scope than with a naked eye.
When properly adjusted the eye piece will correct sub perfect vision.

Re: Vortex 1-4 ?

Tis may be a stupid question, but on 1-4 scopes can you still use your iron sights to co witness on 1 power

Re: Vortex 1-4 ?

i see my front post on my A2 sight in my scope but its not clear enough to use.

I can with my Burris.

Thinking about cutting it off, though.

Re: Vortex 1-4 ?

Overall, I've been very happy with my 1-4x PST. The only real complaint is that it can be a bit difficult to move the magnification ring, but a MGM Switchview lever takes care of that problem.

Re: Vortex 1-4 ?

I like mine. I have used it on a SBR and 18" AR to plink steel out to 300 yards.

Re: Vortex 1-4 ?

I compared the Viper 1-4x with the Burris TAC30 and found that the Burris has equal optical quality for nearly half the price, and much brighter (truly daylight visible) illumination to boot. Also I prefer the reticle in the Burris. The fact that the Viper has matching turrets and reticle is really inconsequential for me, as I don't plan on doing any milling and dialing on a 1-4x.

In the last 3 months I got to test a bunch of 1-4 and 1-6 scopes in the $400 to $800 price range and ended up liking the Burris MTAC the best. Vortex are good for their price but I don't like the reticle in their 1-4. I your just a plinker and have the time to use a (Mil Dot based) ranging reticle fine, and if you "need" uncapped turrets fine.

My usage must be more like henchman's, my criteria is fast acquisition of target, easy hold-over reticle, capped turrets...the way I'm using an AR (actually an HK416) I don't want uncapped turrets being inadvertently turned as the rifle is being bounced around on my vest and gear.

If I were a varmint hunter using a 20" AR a milling scope would be fine but I believe there are allot of "recreational" shooters that base their purchase on what looks cool not on their actual needs and purpose.

Re: Vortex 1-4 ?

I'll ad since henchman mentioned optic quality, both Vortex and Burris optical components and construction come out of the Philippines and most likely from the same company to both Burris and Vortex specific specs which are good but are not Light Optics products!

Exactly.

Re: Vortex 1-4 ?

I got mine just a few days ago and really like it. Clear and like the reticle. Illumination can be seen during the day as well if that matters anyone . Or I should say a cloudy day. Adjustments have firm clicks
