I was hoping someone might be able to tell me if i could modify and mill out one of my old remington 40x wood stocks to except a howa 1500. I would of course keep the howa single shot. I dont have the howa to look over so i dont know if this can be done or not? Can i mill my old 40x and bed the how in? thansk Lee

Re: Howa in a remington 40x wood stock

I recently fitted a Howa 1500 short action to one of our Remmy stocks. One of the action screws will be on the right place, can't remember which one...
You'll need to mill out quite a bit and bed the action.
In these cases I would normally mill out the inlet oversized, and turn myself two rings with the right diameter to slide on the barrel the outside diameter of the rings sit in the barrel channel and guarantee the barrel being centered and in line with the stock while the action is free floating and then bedded that way.
No easy way.
