Suppressors A 5.56 Thread Question

I am wanting to cut approximately 5/8" off my Daniel Defense 11.5" GOVT, CAR, CHROME, PHOS Barrel to bring my soon to arrive SAS M-455 Suppressor right up to (1/16") of the end of my 10" DD Lite Hand Guard. I've seen talk of Peel, Crush and Lock washers being used to install suppressors, but judging from the 1/2 x 28 thread specs I see out by TBAC and YHM there should not be anything but the suppressor going on the barrel for installation. Is that correct as it would affect what I cut off to bring the suppressor in close to the hand guard? Thanks in advance if you can clear this up for me, you guys seem to know the answers!

Re: A 5.56 Thread Question

You should not ever use any type of crush/split washer with suppressor or suppressor mount as they can tighten down unevenly and cause a baffle/end cap strike.

I take it you are using a thread on suppressor and not a QD? If so, you won't need anything else on the barrel. If you are using a QD muzzle device like a brake, you can use shims, like these, to time it correctly.

Lastly, 1/16" is a pretty tight fit and you might get enough barrel whip for the suppressor to contact your rail after firing. None of my suppressors are that close to the rail, so I don't know how much they actually flex other than watching slo-mo youtube videos. You will have a pretty short barrel which should be fairly rigid and may make it a non issue, but I would personnely want at least 3/16" to 1/4" to prevent any problems.

Good Point had not thought of that, and yes it is Direct Thread no QD
Thanks

Re: A 5.56 Thread Question

It's best to not use any washers. However, a properly installed flat shim or peel washer is "usually" OK. For our 223A we offer Nord-Lock washers, but it has a little additional clearance since it's for extra short SBR's.
