Ok I was shooting my bow and needed to borrow some field points so my buddy pulled out this little digital scale and started weighing them. Got to questioning him and he said you calibrate it one time w/ a 100 gram weight and that's it. Hmmmmm. I ordered one and I will promise you it is the cheapest most cost effective weighing tool I have ever used. 23$ bought and shipped. It is a us-ace 100gx0.01g scale. I have tested it time and time again with my chargemaster weights and everytime I get the same results 771.6 grains. (50 grams). Best part is you can put your powder pan on write down it's weight and then measure your dispensed powder weights. It works great for electric powder throwers. Highly recommend. It's cheap, and the accurate scale I've ever seen. Was developed for jewlers but as stated above works AWSOME for weighing bullets, cases, and powder charges. Get one and I promise you'll agree

Re: Found the cheapest most accurate scale ever!!

Looks eerily similar to the Hornady GS-1500 scale that came with my kit. So similar in fact I'd think it's almost the same scale.

Re: Found the cheapest most accurate scale ever!!

Wow! That is the exact same scale. Literally, the us ace. Hornady must have a contract with them. Well atleast I saved a few dollars.

Re: Found the cheapest most accurate scale ever!!

a quick check of that thing indicates its only accurate down to .2 grains.

at least for powder that aint working, for me anyways.

Re: Found the cheapest most accurate scale ever!!

Professional help by a person trained in curing delusions may be order if you think a cheap electronic scale is superior to my Gen2 Prometheus, "most accurate scale ever" yeah sure buddy, and Bill Clinton was the greatest President ever.

Well sir, You are a dick. " to MY Gen2 Prometheus." What is that shit? You sound like a stuck up prick and judging by your # of posts you spend more time typing than shooting any how. Was just suggesting a cheap solution to double check powder weights. U r the type of person lowlight warns about. Eat shit you prick.

Re: Found the cheapest most accurate scale ever!!

Ooooooh. Much nastiness here. However, Billy Boy wasn't the worst. IMHO we got him now. Let's stick to technical questions.

Re: Found the cheapest most accurate scale ever!!

I'm not a dick but an asshole who worked 60 12 hour days in a row to buy my scale, I also paid off a car and two credit cards, enjoy your scale and I will enjoy mine.

Re: Found the cheapest most accurate scale ever!!

I'm also sick and tired of reading 427Cobra's posts about how awesome his scale is. I think that this is the third thread I have seen him post on about his scale. Just ignore him. There are many fast, accurate, and easy to use electric scales on the market that don't require 720 man hours of your labor to pay for and that work great for reloading.

Glad you found a scale you like. I have used a cheap electronic scale for years with great success.

Re: Found the cheapest most accurate scale ever!!

for the price i may have to order one. i've only been using a beam scale and its time consuming.

Haha. I will most certainly enjoy my 23$ scale knowing that bit of info.

Re: Found the cheapest most accurate scale ever!!

Honestly, the Prometheus is kinda a waste of money. There are plenty of scales available that are accurate for far less money. But to each his own. Id rather buy a chargemaster and use the money I saved on ammo or another BAT action.

Re: Found the cheapest most accurate scale ever!!

Unless you have used one for many thousands of rounds you have no basis what so ever in saying there a waste of money, as for the CM, I'd rather be able to charge a case in 1/3 the time with 10x the accuracy, remember less time reloading means more time shooting.

Re: Found the cheapest most accurate scale ever!!

what's wrong with the 5 0 5 from rcbs. worked great for my dad now i have my own and i'm very happy with it

i see no benefit to such a system. My chargemaster throws accurate charges in like 14seconds. Be serious. If you really think you need to spend that kind of money to throw charges accurately youre out of your mind. I mean fuck, my Harrells powder thrower is fucking accurate as hell and it takes about 2 seconds to throw a charge.

i have a $120 gem pro that kicks ass....love. it....we should start a cheap scale thread....

Dear lord, the world must be coming to an end for real. I find myself on the same side of a powder dispenser/scale argument as 427Cobra...

Having dispensed umpteen thousand charges from my first Chargemaster, 90% of which were subsequently final trickled on a lab grade milligram scale... the Chargemaste, while reasonably accurate for its target market... is not even remotely in the same league as the Prometheus (friend of mine finally got one, and we've been comparing notes). The Chargemaster is probably +/- 0.1gn 95% of the time, or +/- 2 SD. And mine, even after various 'tune ups' and reprogramming... averaged 40-50+ seconds per charge (46.5gn Varget).

And the Harrell's... ain't even in the same ball park. Fast, yes. Accurate... no. My $20 Lee PPM beats it like a borrowed mule with stick powders. With ball powders, maybe +/- 0.1gn . With stick powders... at least +/- 0.3gn over a long string.

So while I do think the Prometheus is hideously expensive (not the same as over-priced, considering what they can do), I'm not a fan of the 'lease' thing, and I don't necessarily care for the way the fan-boys continuously pimp them in every related thread that comes up... to say that a Chargemaster is even remotely close is a pretty far stretch.

I can fully understand why the Prometheus costs what it does. It is a very elegant machine. It takes reliable accuracy to the extreme. If you ask anyone who has one, they will tell you that the accuracy is nice, but the speed is worth the price of admission.

To me, the issue is that the Prometheus is a one trick pony. It does that trick really, really well, but it still only weighs powder. It is a machine designed for a very small audience. Very, very few people load enough match ammo to justify the cost, but the competition match shooter that is shooting and loading 200+ rounds a week can justify it in time pretty quickly.

I don't know anyone that owns one that would trade it for a rifle. I think that says a lot. I don't own one, and probably never will, but people shooting 200 rounds a month, or more likely 200 rounds a year, have no business talking shit about an expensive tool that is designed for a totally different market.

Re: Found the cheapest most accurate scale ever!!

Why does every thread about a scale or powder dispenser on this forum turn into a "Chargemaster vs Prometheus". argument?

Peronally I don't think there is a chargemaster owner who thinks his system is as good as a Prometheus.
That said, he shouldn't, I think they are saying, for 90% less money, this is as good as it is going to get.

The op just stated, here is a cheap, accurate scale that will double check your weights, look into it, buy if you want.

But the shitstorm ensued none the less, and 427 cobra will have the online mad sticker going for 6 months now.
I'd hate to see a serious, legitimate topic brought up on this site, it would be 60 pages of bickering.

My only take on this, if the time comes when I need a 3k powder dispenser to load, I'm done shooting, period. The $2700.00 savings is almost 2 years worth of loading components for me.

Will someone start a thread with a poll, which is best and why, then we can put this to rest for a year or so, and provide a link to newbies asking the same question.

Re: Found the cheapest most accurate scale ever!!

To all, the point of this thread was just to convey that I pretty much found the us ace scale (hornady) for 23$ shipped. I have 3 chargemasters and love them. This was just a way of double checking for practically nothing. Everyone here knows the "Prometheus" kicks ass but for 99% of the people on the hide the notion of spending that kind of $ is ludicrous and unnecessary. But if you got the $ to spend, get it if thats you prerogative. I would rather be pulling triggers.

I think it's funny that so many people in this thread think that spending money on a scale equates to not shooting. Strange logic.

"I bought a Nightforce instead of a S&B because I'd rather be shooting"

My point was that it was faulty logic, just like the faulty logic you used for a second time in that response. Having 'X' amount of money has nothing to do with it.

Re: Found the cheapest most accurate scale ever!!

So, I have a Prometheus. I've gone from dispensing on two chargemasters, with constant overthrows, to dispensing accurate charges (to the kernel) in the same amount of time. GreatGonzo hit the nail on the head...if you shoot alot, especially competitively, the cost is easily justifiable. If you shoot alot, and have kids, and family obligations, and work obligations, it's a no brainer. It's truly an amazing machine, and until you actually work with one, it's difficult/impossible to "get it".

FWIW, I sold a rifle, a custom 1911, and a bunch of miscellaneous gear to pay for it.

Re: Found the cheapest most accurate scale ever!!

Binder,
You've lost me.
You save $1700.00 on a scope, so you can shoot more.
But if you spent $2700.00 more on the dispenser, you can still shoot more?

I think what some people took exception to is the idea of buying a scale that weighs to an accuracy of +/- 0.2 gn to 'check' a scale/dispenser that weighs to an accuracy of +/- 0.1 gn.

For me, that just doesn't add up, regardless of how cheap the dang thing is.

My point was that you never know the situation of the person behind the user name. The amount spent on equipment and by extension shooting is only "shooting prohibitive" to a relative degree. In other words, for all one person knows, Turbo54 may be a millionaire who buys a $3000 scale but also gets to shoot 24/7 because he doesn't have to work. Or he may be super poor and on food-stamps but makes shooting a priority so he pinched his pennies for years to buy a $3000 scale and still goes out shooting 24/7 because he's poor and doesn't have a job. The point is that you can't make judgement calls on somebody else based on you own position because you never know the situation of the other person and by assuming that Turbo54 doesn't shoot because he bought a $3000 scale is just faulty logic.

OK, gotchya,

For me personally, it is economics.

This thread needs to die.

+1 on both counts. I personally run a CM1500 and a Lyman1200 but if I had the money I'd have a Promethus.

I'd have to agree with that. Great logic This thread has turned into a cluster fuck. In no way did I mean for it to piss anyone off. Although Cobras post calling me delusional made me very mad and whether it was right or wrong I said what I said. Cobra... Enjoy your scale. I apologize for calling you a dick. Just don't rub it in everyones faces. As they say "opinions are like assholes... Everybodys got one. " I'm done

Re: Found the cheapest most accurate scale ever!!

Point well taken Aimsmall55 and from all others, I too am sorry for my part\ and previous parts I have played in the great scale wars. Now lets get back to .........................

Re: Found the cheapest most accurate scale ever!!

I decided to sell my custom 300winmag in order to obtain funds to buy a Prometheus. Ill be weighing charges like a bat out of hell. Woohoo!!! Oh fuck wait Now I dont have a gun to shoot these loads with.

You're right, this was a "Fucking Classic".
Glad I could contribute.
