I'm running the 90 bergers out of my fast twist 22-250.

7 twist krieger 23" on a winchester action.

So far its shooting great, consistent 1/2MOA. The load data I got from berger is telling me 34.3gr of RL-19 is max, COAL was calculated at 2.350, and I should be getting 3027fps from a 26" barrel.

However, out of my rifle 34.0 gr of RL-19 is only getting me and avg of 2645fps, 35.0 gr earned me 2718fps.
Everything so far seems to indicate low pressures, primers are round, no sticky bolt lift, etc.

I was really hoping to get close to 3K with this set up I would even be happy with 2900.

My question is, how far should I go? 36gr or more?

Is the 0.430" difference in COALs causing the error?

Try a slower powder? a faster one?

I'd try slower, like VV N560. That range. Maybe RL-19 or 22, but be careful.

Sorry to ask an off topic question, but bow does 22-250 feed out of an aics magazine? I have been debating a similar set-up.

I would give H4350 and H4831 a try. I think you need a slower powder for the 90 grainers. Good luck and keep us posted.

ptaylor,
Sorry about my advice to try the same powder you were using.
It is funny how some say slower, some say faster, who's right?

My philosophy, heavier bullet, slower powder. I load for a young freind working in Iraq. 22-250, 75gr Berger, 42gr VV N560, 205M primer, 3440fps. You'd think it to be hot, it's not, we've shot it in 100 degree weather.

My honest advice, buy a .243.

No issues.

Re: 22-250 fast twist berger 90gr VLD. Data?

I recieved some updated info from Berger bullets. With the longer COAL I'm running Berger is reporting a max charge of 36.9 gr of RL19 for a velocity of 3072fps. This is with a 26" barrel.

I'll load up some at 37.0 gr and run them through the chrono and see what that gives me. I'm expecting 2850 or 2900 which would be fine by me.

I have been debating trying the 90's in a 22-250. I am currently shooting 90's from a 223 wylde chamber. With 2000mr I am currently getting 2880 f/s. So I would think you should be able to get quite a bit more velocity.

Keep us informed with your progress.

Any data ever achieved to get faster speeds with this particular set up? I was interested in a 22-250 90 grain combination myself. Seems like H4350 or RL17 would be an appropriate speed powder for this set up. Maybe even a little slower.

Interested as to where you landed with your 90 grainers, i have running Berger 85.5 gr Hybrids in a 28" Krieger 1:7 (because in Aus I could not get a 1:7.5) with Reloader 26 to 3340 FPS and found it shooting great 1/4 MOA and little pressure when done slowly between shoots and cool barrel but as soon as you increase shot speed they are blowing up, Berger reminded me they were doing 340K rpm and needs to slow down. So now I have some 90gr SMK's to start loading today
