My wife picked me up one of the black friday specials at dicks 700 adl in 308 for 380 with tax after rebate. I sold the scope today on ebay for 50 and think the stock will go for 50 also so 280 in the barreled action. I stuck it in my b and c A2 and adjusted the xmark trigger down to what feels like less than 2lbs. Ive heard alot of bad things about the xmark pros but this one seems to work pretty good. It has the adjsutment screw on the interior which I adjusted down until the bolt would not reset and backed it up a half a turn. The gun shoots pretty good with some ammo I had laying around for my other 308. With some fire formed brass this might be a real shooter.

    Shit, can't argue with that!

    Well played.

Re: Dicks Sporting goods sepcial Range test

Really. The targets had no idea that you weren't running a $4,000 rig, did they? Nice shooting.

Re: Dicks Sporting goods sepcial Range test

I was intending on sticking a barrel on this thing, but I might keep it around for a little bit. I probably stretch it ot to 400-500 today

Re: Dicks Sporting goods sepcial Range test

That's a sweet deal from Dick's. Cheaper than rebarreling, and you could probably sell a 700 action with a hailed-out barrel for $300-400

WOW that is stupid cheap...can anyone speak to the accuracy of those barrels?

Re: Dicks Sporting goods sepcial Range test

My friend bought a 243 that he dropped into my LTR stock and was shooting under MOA with the 105 AMAX at 600.
    I was impressed.

Re: Dicks Sporting goods sepcial Range test

I did nearly the same test..... except...168smk-w760powder dropped from a harrels.6.5x20 nikon scope
    1) stock gun after breakin 1.250"
    2)lapped barrel 1.00"
    3)put barreled action in H-S alum,bedded stock. .500"
not bad for a $350 gun

what did you do about the bottom metal issue? (adl vs bdl)

Re: Dicks Sporting goods sepcial Range test

Its nice to see a remy preforming. I have had several and unfortunately will not have another......until I seen this thread. Maybe I should try one out again. The key is what you gave for the rifle initially, at that price you could justify buying a new stock! All the remys I have had I paid way more than that and didn't shoot half as good.

Re: Dicks Sporting goods sepcial Range test

That is some damn fine shooting for any gun much less a gun costing you $280. VERY NICE SIR. I paid 450 for my dicks special remmy 223 last year. I is a great shooter. I love mine. I bought one in 308 this year on black friday. I anticipate similar results to the 223. I bought my 308 for a 260 build, though.

diesalgeek; Thanks for the heads up on the 260 barrel. That may be an intermediate to my hart/ bartlein/ brux, etc. When I decide.

Re: Dicks Sporting goods sepcial Range test

+1 on this. I did the same thing last year; just kept in in the original stock. Over the last 100 rounds, average of .84 MOA Center-to-Center with calipers; handloads have been as low as .43 for individual groups. Southwest Ammo 175 gave me groups of .78 over the last 50 rounds. 1/2 MOA it's not, solid MOA it is.

Re: Dicks Sporting goods sepcial Range test

Good news on these "Dicks Specials", I got my son one in .308 just before Thanksgiving for $400 with rebates. He saved his money and is getting into a B&C stock from the classifieds section any day now.

I can hardly wait for him to get it out and shooting with the new stock.

Sold the original stock and bm on ebay for $72.

    thanks for the encouragement all!

Did your remington come with the adjustable trigger mine came with regular xmark ironically the tag that was in it said xmark pro, wasn't the case. I got mine for 325 told the dude behind the counter that there was some rust on the barrel

Re: Dicks Sporting goods sepcial Range test

There is a new x-mark pro trigger that is internally adjustable. It does not have the screw on the outside. They similar to the old style remington triggers.

Re: Dicks Sporting goods sepcial Range test

Meh I prefer it to be outside adjustable. I'll probably just sell the trigger and get a timney
