As the title says, the Precision Rifle Series was won with a AWC Thor PSR suppressor with TAB mirage shield on a Surgeon Scalpel 6x47. It doesn't seem like suppressors get a lot of love in the precision rifle game so I thought that this was pretty interesting and worth posting in this section.

The THOR seems to be a top notch can for the precision game. Nobody stocks them or thunderbeast to my knowledge in atl though. Guess AAC had GA locked down.

DM, interesting and of no surprise.

Twitch, interesting and of no surprise.

Re: AWC can wins Precision Rifle Series.

A lot of people shoot suppressors in competition, that's nothing new.

And, as usual, the best shooters win the competitions regardless of the equipment they use - nothing new there either.

Is there anything wrong with a Surgeon rifle and AWC can for competition use? No. But there's lots of good equipment out there.

So to say in the title that an 'AWC can won the Precision Rifle Series' is a bit of a shameless plug.

The shooter won. He deserves the credit. I'm sure he could have beat the others equally well had he shot a TBAC and an AI, or a Templar, or whatever.

Like it's not about the gun, it's not about the suppressor either.

A lot of people race cars in competition, that's nothing new.

And, as usual, the best drivers win the competitions regardless of the race car they use - nothing new there either.

Is there anything wrong with a perfectly prepared and maintained race car for competition use? No. But there's lots of good equipment out there.

So to say in the title that an "A Viper posted the fastest Nurburgring Lap Time" is a bit of a shameless plug.

The driver won. He deserves the credit. I'm sure he could have beat the others equally well had he drove a Fiat, Yugo, Honda or a Ford, or whatever.

Like it's not about the engine, it's not about the tires either.

LOL! Nice.

Except that shooting is a bit more like motorcycle racing than car racing: In the sport itself the operator means more than does the machine. Unlike in car racing, in shooting and motorcycling at least 50% of the performance depends on the operator and his personal performance on the day.

In car racing the car is a much bigger factor. That's the reason for the multitude of rules and regulations to equal the playing field with regard to machinery in the four-wheeled motorsports.

Good analogy, though.

Re: AWC can wins Precision Rifle Series.

Graham,

I'll start by saying I know nothing about motorcycle races. I have never seen one. If it is on TV I probably never will. I would bet, though, that if a part reduced the performance of their bike they would just leave it off.

In the decade that I have been shooting these comps I have only personally seen one shooter win a major comp that I attended with a suppressor. That was John Sommers. Many shooters may use them but all that I have tested except for very few have have degraded performance to the point of being relegated to carbine, hunting, or less demanding recreational use. I have a safe full to prove it.

Dustin, myself, and other members of Team Surgeon tested many suppressors with multiples of each brand and they are not all equal. To win we must use gear that does not preclude us from winning.

I know that Frank has the same model. Maybe he'll chime in with some feedback.

Besides, I heard that guy with the AWC can at the finale wasn't so good anyway. It probably was the can that did it.

I didn't want to say anything, but since you brought it up... I heard the same thing

Re: AWC can wins Precision Rifle Series.

The more I shoot my THOR the more I like it ...

Been using it pretty exclusively lately, other than price I have to say it is a nice can.

I have 2, the 338 model and .30 cal, and they're pretty impressive.

Re: AWC can wins Precision Rifle Series.

I've heard good things about them as well, but I have not tried one yet so I can't comment on that particular can.

I agree that there are very, very few cans suitable for the precision work required in competition. My TBAC is one. I would shoot it in the comps but I don't need a suppressor so I don't use one for the comps.

Wade, why did you choose to shoot with this can (or with a can) at the last match?

Brought a smile to my face!

It's not Atlanta but my smith sells TBAC in Georgia. Joe Collier at Collier Rifles south of Millen. He builds an awesome rifle and is a hell of a nice guy. I read about TBAC on here and told Joe I had to have one. I gave him Zacks number and he ordered several right off the rip and sold them with the quickness. I just got mine a couple weeks ago and it was worth the wait!
