Yesterday at the range I turned the magnification all the way down on my new (to me, thousands of rounds through it from the previous owner and I've put about 50 through it) PMII 5-25 then, when I went to turn it back up, it required an unusual amount of effort, and would go no higher than 15x. I turned it back down to 5 with the normal amount of resistance and tried to tun it up again with a high degree of resistance, and it stops at 12.

Is this a typical failure mode for the PMII scopes?

Apparently it's time for a trip to the US service center. I'll report back with the results. I hope it's not too expensive to fix.

Re: Problem with S&B PMII

You may have your rings over-tightened.

If you scope rings are too tight, it "squeezes" the internal workings of the scope & makes it hard to function properly.

Try loosening your scope rings screws slightly & see what happens.

Spuhr mount at 15 inch/lbs as per recommendations.
Any looser than that and they will pretty much fall out when the rifle is shot.

*edit* removed it from the Spuhr mount. It is now stuck at 5x.

Jerry will be very helpful. You can also call them at 800-468-3450. Their US customer service is extremely professional. If you need to send it in, turn around time will be very quick with a thorough explanation as to what the problem is (was).

Re: Problem with S&B PMII

First thing I did this morning was leave S&B USA a voicemail.
I PMed JerryR as well.

Hopefully it's not too expensive to fix, and I know when I get it back it will be as new functionally. I just didn't expect to have a problem with it so soon.

Yeah, Jerry's all over it. It seems their service, just like their optics, are top shelf. UPS ground is 1 day to Ashburn from where I live, so shipping was very reasonable.

Jerry never got my PM 'cause I PMed JerryR not Jerry R. Oh what a difference one little character makes

Re: Problem with S&B PMII

hmm thanks for the info. I have 2 S&B and was considering a different scope for my third rifle. You just helped me seal the deal for my next scope.
