The unveiling of the Chassis

Re: Rock Solid Chassis in time for XMAS

    Lowlight,

Do they all come with the picatinny rail on the bottom or is it an option? I was actually going to order one of these today but can't find a site that shows any options; who can I purchase this from?

I know CS tactical is supposed to have them and Weibad shows them also just not sure on options.

    Thanks,
    Jeremy

Re: Rock Solid Chassis in time for XMAS

That is a no BS looking chassis. I like it, very clean. I did a quick goole on it and didnt get a MFG website. I have not been paying attention to them so I dont know anything about it yet. How much does it weigh? I sure like the cheek peice retention system. I am looking forward to more.

Re: Rock Solid Chassis in time for XMAS

do you have to get it with the bolt holes up front? those are useless to 99% of the people that'd buy this....so I'd hope they'd have them as an option. Also, can you have it with a regular swivel stud instead of a rail?

I like the utilitarian aspect of it...enough that if the two issues I mentioned don't turn out to be issues, it'll be in my top 3 choices for my current project

Re: Rock Solid Chassis in time for XMAS

The holes on the top in the front are for NV Pictinny Rail, I just left them open, I thought about putting some button head screws in the holes but figured why bother, I used the original prototype for a couple years, I now have a early production model, I see a bunch of changes that mine doesn't have, Todd hates things that break, I'm sure he broke something and made changes so we wouldn't have deal with them, the folder is coming too. Rock Solid is a one man operation, he also owns a HVAC business which takes up too much time, after Christmas I will try and get the answers to everyone's questions, Rock Solid has a Facebook page too.

Re: Rock Solid Chassis in time for XMAS

So any more info on these? I would love to see a full pic of one... the scrolling cam is nice and all, but I want to see what the whole chassis looks like. also a price would be cool.

Im looking to get a chassis for my savage and like the looks of this, just would love more info.

Re: Rock Solid Chassis in time for XMAS

I love the idea of this chassis. Rigid and simple with just enough adjustability to fit well. Hopefully it's weight and price aren't a deterrent. I like it!

Here are mine, not a great picture but you get the idea. They are light but not sure of the exact specs, if i get a chance i will weigh mine.

I wonder if there are engraving options for the company logo. The RS on the side is too much for me. Other than that, good stuff from RS.

Re: Rock Solid Chassis in time for XMAS

Frank, you know if they are making leftys?

    I want one! Or two...

You appear to be slightly upset about the logo.

Heh it's all good. Just too large for my taste buds.

Their Rock with the reticle logo would have much better on a smaller scale versus the big RS.

Re: Rock Solid Chassis in time for XMAS

Is bedding required? suggested? not really needed?

Re: Rock Solid Chassis in time for XMAS

From what I hear, bed the recoil lug and your good to go. You don't have to but it is a good idea with any chassis to make sure you have even and solid contact with the lug. I have seen and shot next to many of these. They by far are my favorite chassis. Price on them are about $750 last I checked.

Re: Rock Solid Chassis in time for XMAS

Sorry, Holiday and Hackers so I am late to responding, although Brian has answered a lot of the questions.

This stock just arrived, so I am just now getting around to looking at it. Todd is a long time competitive shooter and I recall him first bringing the prototype to one of the SH events in TX. It has come a long way since that time. These stocks are becoming an mainstay of the TX competition circuit and that is no accident.

These are really well made, as you see the edges are rounded, the first & finish is first range, and the small additions like the rubber insets show an attention to detail.

I will try to get a barreled action in it this week, and what I will do is weight it compared to other chassis have here, as I have several. (Ashbury, AICS, Cadex, KRG, etc)

I don't think he has a website but you can find him on FB,

There are a few images of the guys using them, and the color options, so here a few images from FB.

Todd is a member here, and we'll get him to answer some of you guys directly.

    Merry Christmas !

I doubt they are they showing at SHOT, Todd is a pretty small operation, you might find him there, but I would highly doubt he is showing.

    I can ask...

Re: Rock Solid Chassis in time for XMAS

Thanks for the info and pics! Very interesting! - Todd

Re: Rock Solid Chassis in time for XMAS

Chassis weighs 4.8 lbs and there are left handed models available.

Chase runs the Rock Solid and swears by it. He's been shooting pretty well with them. Just look at the 2012 PRS standings.

questions about finishing: Is it anodized aluminum? Is black an available color?

The finish is anodizing but not run of the mill, its deeper and harder(she likes it that way), if you want it black just spray paint it, I'm fixing to have mine dipped in Multicam

Re: Rock Solid Chassis in time for XMAS

    Update !

So on a whim, I figured what the heck and tried putting my Gradous 6.5CM build into the Rock Solid Chassis. This hasn't worked for any chassis without machining , even the AICS it current sits in needed machining work.

Well what do you know, it fit !

    BighornRockSolid1.jpg

    BighornRockSolid2.jpg

I am going to drop about 1/2" of Marine Tex behind it because it fits against the front of the lug but there is about that much air behind it. So I figured a tiny bit of bedding will go a long way.

And the bolt handle area is spot on. No need to work that section at all. Again, I had to work the AICS to fit the Bighorn, including the bolt handle area. Not with the Rock Solid.

For guys with Bighorn Actions, this is great news.

Re: Rock Solid Chassis in time for XMAS

Frank, what color does Todd call that one?

Re: Rock Solid Chassis in time for XMAS

I asked on facebook - it's Medium Taupe.

Re: Rock Solid Chassis in time for XMAS

Im picking up that color and a green one tomorrow. I can take some more pictures.

Re: Rock Solid Chassis in time for XMAS

    So forgive the ignorance here...

Something I've never understood about chassis systems, in general.

You mentioned that aluminum chassis systems typically need to be machined, and are not a drop-in fit?

If that's the case, then my question is answered...because I've always wondered how a machined chassis could be a perfect, stress-free fit for any receiver, and a conventional bedding job "supposedly" needs to be cut out and re-done even if the exact same make/model receiver is being replaced.

You are talking two different things.

A chassis designed around a Remington will fit a Remington, however the recoil lug on a Bighorn is in a different place, hence the comment about machining and fit. Most chassis do not have the recoil lug open enough to fit the difference.

If your chassis is meant for the action used it will work without machining.

Some will use a small amount of bedding to snug them up, but overall chassis are drop in fit.

    Thanks for the clarification.

So does the differrence in "why" a traditional epoxy bedding job is advised to be removed when changing actions due to the fact that a chassis might use a V-block or other more "self-aligning" type bedding system that can compensate for very minor dimensional changes in production receivers?

Still trying to understand why, we don't have "factory installed" epoxy bedding, but we do have aluminum "bedding"...

Re: Rock Solid Chassis in time for XMAS

I want one of these stocks. But I am currently working on another rifle. Also , this stock has two evil features according to our wonderful leaders. So under the proposed ban , if you already have one , I would assume you would have to register this stock with the Gestapo . And production of these stocks would have to cease to regular untrained dummies like me , unless they lost the pistol grip or detachable magazine compartment . I am hoping a law expert will comment and tell me I am totally wrong , that these stocks will not be covered under the proposed ban on evil weapons. Then I can wait a while and not piss off the wifey and drop fifteen hundred dollars on two of these stocks. If I decide to comply with the Gestapo.

Most of that mumbo jumbo is applied to semi-autos.

Re: Rock Solid Chassis in time for XMAS

Ok I picked up 2 Rock Solids last night and took some more pictures for people wanting to see more. I dropped my Comp gun into the chassis which is a Rem 700 SA, action has been faced and cleaned up with a pinned hollands oversized recoil lug, Sendero 26" barrel, Timney 510 Trigger which is wide. Action dropped right in and had no wiggles or anything. I checked the recoil lug for contact on the stock and it has perfectly flat contact as it rubbed a perfect contact pattern on the cerakote of the recoil lug. I torqued it down to 65in lbs and all is well. The stocks come with action screws that worked perfect for the rem 700. No cutting down screws at all. The finish is super hard and is grippy. If you want anymore pics I still have the green one without an action in it right now.
