Trued R700 receiver, lugs lapped, bolt face trued
Tubb recoil lugg
Timmeny 510 trigger
Wyatte's DBM
Broughton .264 1/8 5C rifling SS
Seekins rings and 0 moa base
US Optics 3.2-17x44 T-PAL
My trouble is accuraccy, I had 39.4 H4350 BBR2 142SMK HPBT 3 rounds .25 MOA but not the next .5-.75 Also H4350 Federal 210M primers AMAX 140 .5-.75
Also had 42.6 H4350 142 SMK HPBT BBR2 primers .25 MOA @ 100 yards ran back down stairs loaded 3 more of them left a group like a shotgun. Tomoorow I will try working with the 39.4 of H4350
every other load I have tried varies on time .5 MOA next time over 1 MOA @ 100 yards do I need to be more patient or is this barrel junk? I have not tried RL17 yet

Re: My New Rifle 6.5 Creemoor

Load up 10 of every load and take your time, don't rush. Leave a few mins between groups. Could be your fundementals arnt right or similar.

You could be shooting a good group and then get so pumped up about it and pull shots coz your rushing. You have a good set up so probs isn't your rifle. Pics?

Re: My New Rifle 6.5 Creemoor

I would be glad to show you pics but the damn photo bucket thing has got me stumbed. I have thought of my fundamentals and make sure I am doing them correctly. Maye I should have someone else send a few down fange with it to make sure. I know a person could get bad shooting habbits and not relize it

Re: My New Rifle 6.5 Creemoor

If it's a Broughton 5c "canted lands". Trust me , its not junk. Not to be an ass but could you be doing at the reloading bench?? No offense intended

Re: My New Rifle 6.5 Creemoor

What is the round count on the barrel? My .260 had a similar problem, my gunsmith told me not to worry about load development till I had 100-150 rounds fired. Due to velocity increasing as the barrel breaks in.

Re: My New Rifle 6.5 Creemoor

round count is between 100-150 and the question at the reloading bench I have asked myself that question also. I use a RCBS scale Hornady dies press is a breech lock LEE. I also feel most of my shots are good shots, a shooter usaly knows when he makes a bad shot. I am going to try more tomorrow. maybe it will go better.

Re: My New Rifle 6.5 Creemoor

I suggest grabbing a box of factory Hornady 140 Amax to see if it's you or the gun. The factory stuff shoots great out of every gun I've seen, 1/2 MOA or less. That includes factory and custom guns I've seen or shot.

Bare with me in this, I had a similar problem when I first went to a 6.5 caliber. I would shoot a group that you could just barely tell 3 rounds were in the same hole, then turn around and shoot a 1/2 MOA group, but my 1/2 MOA group looked like a shot gun pattern. Obviously the projectile of a 6.5 is substantially smaller in diameter then a 308. My half MOA groups from my 308 look very different from my half MOA groups with my 6.5 Creedmoor. I really had to focus and take my time to shoot the 1 hole groups with my 6.5

Re: My New Rifle 6.5 Creemoor

Just curious, has nothing to do with your issue but what barrel length are you running and what velocities are you seeing?

I suggest sticking with H4350 but start around 41 grains and work up. Mine shoots lights out with 140 Amax and 42.4 grains and 130 VLD's with 43.8 grains of H4350.

Re: My New Rifle 6.5 Creemoor

Ok I am running a 24" barrel. I ran anothwr test today. The barrel seems to like loqer velocity better. I loaded 20 rounds. 10 of them with 39.5 grains of H4350 CCI BBR2 primers SMK HPBT 142. Thw other 10 with same powder Federal 210M primers AMAX 140. SIERRA BUULET GROUP shot a 1.2" group. I have always had really good performance with Sierra in my .308 so this was a suprise to me. The loads with the AMAX bullets gave me a .6" group of 10 rounds. Not bad I could live with that. So I called my gunsmith up see what he was up too. He was bored and wanted to come down and talk with him. Right bwfore I got I stopped and got a cup of coffe for both of us.
Showed him the groups that Ihad just shot. He said we can work with the .6" group. The were stringed horizontal on the target. He told load 20 when I get home. Load 10 of them .5 grains hotter and the other 10 .5 grains lighter and it should nail it one way or the other. I got rhem loaded but did not get to shoot them.

My samith also scoped my barrel. I juat hacw not been patient enough with the cleaning solvent because there was alot of copper on the lands. He showed me what he uses to clean a bore with and hoq he doea it. He has hwr slick in 10 minutes. I havw alao seated bullets at the lands also. Boy the just barely fit in my magazine

Re: My New Rifle 6.5 Creemoor

Oh 1 more thing I would like to add. I am not bashing SIEERA BULLETS ONLY ONLY WHAT I HAVE SEEN COMPARRING SIEERA BULLETS AGAINST HORNADY. I alwas had very good results with Sierra in my .308. All o fthe AMAX bullets swem to have tighter tollerences, length of buller. Ogive of bullet, and wieght of bullet and ogive length. AMAX tollerrances are a lot tighter and plus the cost less.
