Anybody here got one? Im contemplating buying a new/newish car in the next few months, and it seems like the R/T charger with the V8 and AWD has just about all the features i want in a daily driver (except 6sp manual). AWD is a must for me if im going to buy a new car.............Any opinions?

Re: AWD Hemi Charger?

I love my charger RT. Wish I had gotten the AWD. They handle a bit better and have a quicker take off out of a dig than the standard RT. Great car. I have an 07 and it is my everyday driver, grocery getter, kid hauler, go to the range car. You are definitely making the right choice in the RT model. The 3.5L SXT just doesn't have enough HP and torque to make the car respond quickly. I have owned both and am glad I moved to the RT. Wish they made the SRT-8 in the AWD, but no luck there. I recommend chargerforums.com. Not Chargerforumz.com. The "Z" tends to be younger kids with a perchance to do lots of body modifications/paint while the forums is older folks that prefer function and reliability over looks. the charger forums has a good group of guys that will give you a honest no shit opinion regarding the AWD. In fact there is a subsection specific to it. Hope the info helps.

Re: AWD Hemi Charger?

I had the Toxic Orange, We only put 15,000 miles on it before trading it in on my wires new Laramie Longhorn truck. The car was awesome, had every bell/whistle that is possible. The adaptive cruise was neat and so was just about every other part of the car. With the Traction control turned off the car was a FUCKIN BEAST... The thing we hated most on it was that it had 20" wheels and on some road surfaces the road noise was insain. Also the black leather seats were killer on bare legs in the TX summertime. Would still have it but my Ram 2500 turned out to be a complete turd so when Dodge purchased it back from me I figured we didn't need 2 new vehicles anyway and got the most loaded truck I could get for her and went back to an old and busted jeep wrangler.

Re: AWD Hemi Charger?

Chrysler cars were much improved for the 2011 model year, and continue to improve.

Forget a 3.5L

The 3.6L "Pentastar" is much improved over the 3.5, but still has quirks. Oughtta be good to go for 2013 or 2014MY.

The 5.7, 6.1 and new 6.4 are righteous engines, certainly Chrysler's best gasoline offering.

However, bear in mind Chrysler has been AGGRESSIVELY pursuing transmission upgrades (ZF built 8speeds, for example) - and will "probably" continue to do so...

The 8 speed ZF is excellent. If you buy a Chrysler, make sure you get the 8 speed.

Re: AWD Hemi Charger?

The 8-speed ZF is coming very soon for the V8 models. If I recall correctly, the SRT8 models get them first, soon followed by the 5.7L cars. While the 8sp trans should be a nice improvement, I still hold the outgoing A580 5sp in high regard.

I have a previous-generation LX (specifically, an '06 300C SRT8), and it's a spectacular car. The new versions are even better in terms of interior appearance and features (particularly in the infotainment system). In my opinion, the Charger and 300C are the perfect modern embodiment of the classic full-size American car - powerful, safe, efficient, providing a good compromise between ride and handling, and being roomy enough for four adults and some luggage.

For the money, I think the Charger R/T AWD is one of the best values on the market. About the only other car that I would think of recommending in the same segment and price range would be the Ford Taurus, which is not nearly as fast or engaging to drive unless you step up to the SHO model.

Re: AWD Hemi Charger?

Thanks guys...Ive been looking at them for a few weeks seems like its a bit difficult to find an 11/12 RT AWD with less than 50k on it. There are plenty of 13's but they're all in the 37k range (internet price) Hopefully thats not what they're going for in the real world.

Re: AWD Hemi Charger?

My buddy bought a '11 Charger R/T RWD almost exactly one year ago for something like $29k + tax/title/etc. I'd walk into a dealer and see what kind of deal you can cut - maybe someone is desperate for that last sale of the year.

I wouldn't worry too much about mileage on a used example. I bought my '06 with 43k on it, and it currently has 95k. So far, unscheduled repairs have amounted to a couple hundred dollars (it has worn out the outer tie rod on each side, and required a new set of cooling fan blades). Gas and tires are another story
